  3. Spleen works pretty good. I used to check by seeing how easy the blade went through fingers. I did that about 10 times and then ...... "just a flesh wound".
  4. Thanks for the link to the video.Pretty interesting.I didn't know about these.
  5. I hope you see him next year.I opened that picture,he has some long tines!
  6. Congratulations guys.Hey cprsailor I hope that buck bred that doe before you took him home. He's a beauty!
  7. FYI a co-worker of mine stopped using 12 ga. copper sabots after wounding deer and having them run far enough that other hunters shot them.In other words he slowed them down for someone else.Said the slugs punched a hole but didn't stop the deer.He is an experienced hunter/shooter so I don't doubt him.
  8. I have been hunting aprox. 25 yrs. Some of the places I hunt have far fewer deer now than in the past.I am not a biologist so I do not know what is the correct population figures for whitetail for a given area.I am not an agricultural engineer (farmer) however I do respect and support the local growers when I can.I also realize that the land owners/farmers are the reason a lot of whitetails survive in the first place.Having said this,I do have a problem justifying stories I hear of numerous deer being shot like varmints and left to nature.I have the opinion that nuisance permits are freely given out,the results poorly documented and the end result is fewer deer available for the common hunter.I have heard of some large farming businesses that do not mind hunters being in the woods that they own.I believe there must be a better way to join hunters and agriculture in a mutually beneficial way.If not then we are screwed!
  9. This is better than the Comedy Channel!
  10. Skill can turn bad luck such as things that you cannot control in to good luck.Skill gained from experience allows decision making to lead to success witch can be said is good "luck".
  11. I have a wolf 209.I had an issue with the plastic fiber optic sights, sent CVA an e-mail and within a week they sent me new metal fiber optic sights free.I would buy another CVA.
  12. Check out shotgunworld.com they have forums that you may find helpful.
  13. Perhaps her husband earns the $$ He was probably out hunting!
  14. I don't mind the antler restriction at Letchworth , I love hunting there. I just was disappointed with what I and others I talked to saw this year.
  15. I finally had some luck this morning.I kicked two bedded doe up walking in to hunt. After that I saw movement aprox. 100 yds through the woods and slowly worked my way in that direction. As I neared some sawgrass I turned and thought I saw a deer head looking at me about 30-40 yds away.I slowly leaned back behind a tree, raised my gun(slowly)leaned out ,aimed at the head/neck and squeezed the trigger. The head disappeared and a few moments later two deer took off running into the sawgrass.I cautiously walked over and was happy to find a mature large doe on the ground.Gotta love neck shots. The best part is that I got the deer even though my new fiber optic front sight had lost the red fiber optic piece.I was able to use the empty hole as my front sight! So I ended up seeing 5 dozers this morning and it was pretty in the woods with all of the snow.3 antlerless deer from 3 different counties this year,I can't complain too much.
  16. It depends on the area . I work in Rochester and live North East of the city, I did not have any issues driving this week.Batavia is between Roch. and Buffalo. They had much more snow.
  17. O.K. I admit it I'm turning green with envy. Congratulations on a great first season in your new camp!
  18. Of course it is too hard for the "it's all about me" mentality that is infesting our society like a plague.(Hope you find your blind).
  19. I hunted Letchworth myself.I was disapointed with what I saw there as well.I see plenty of deer sign and saw many doe mostly in the safety zone by the dam.I know of some guys that saw nothing there as well however a co-worker said there was a lot of shooting at Letchworth opening day .I did have a 4 pt. and two small deer close to me one afternoon there. The general opinion I hear is that the deer numbers in the park are a fraction of what they used to be.
  20. How much of the decrease in deer numbers are from nuisance permits?
