  1. Any neighbors or co-workers that might be willing to help you ?
  2. Nice job congratulations on a beautiful looking buck !
  3. Just got home from hunting Letchworth this weekend. Our group of 3 saw a few but only one legal buck in thickets. I was disapointed in the low number of doe spotted.I did experience a first Sun. evening sitting in a pine watching the bushy cover and out to my side comes 4 Black Bears. Not very old / big, but I thought it was pretty cool to see.
  4. I agree wholeheartedly. I will probably hunt Letchworth until I cannot hunt anymore.I like to give other hunters room and it has become more of a challenge to do so with all of the stands. Thankfully I have not bowhunted too close to anyone else that I know of in a long time so I must be doing something right.Good luck everyone.
  5. So the Police tell you that YOU are lucky when you were not trespassing in the first place ? I could understand if you were on Native land that you could be treated unkindly but you were not.Sounds like the New York Authorities need to have a talk with the Native leaders.
  6. Simple to find a spot to hunt just look for all the hang on and ladder stands all over the park, Hunted there last weekend and saw a doe with a fawn, 2 adult doe busted me by walking up behind me and a fork horn with no brow tines of course walked by me at 5 yds. or less. Also another guy with me saw a small bear. There are deer there but not like there was when I first started hunting there 20 something years ago.
  7. Awesome video. Congratulations.A Moose and a Grizzly that is spectacular.
  8. Bowhunting recently I watched a Bluejay get in a crows face until a flock of crows showed up and the 2 Bluejays flew away.
  9. As Fletch mentioned a good neck warmer, gator works great against a cold breeze. My son gave me one for Christmas one year and I was surprised how well it worked.Of course you have to do all the other things mentioned already too. I don't use the neck warmer until I have been on stand an hour or so. Also handwarmers , I couldn't hunt in the cold without them.
  10. Nicely done, congratulations. Enjoy the venison and the memory of the hunt.
  11. Ha Ha when I was in a store that was robbed by a guy with a shotgun, afterwards I went right to the closest bar and had some bourbon . It is scary thinking what could have happened !
  12. Always nice to see Livingston County buck pictures. I hunt State land there so it is always nice to think a big buck might wander on to public land by mistake.
  13. So if I understand correctly the vehicle turning cut the turn short, if so I am not surprised. I can't believe how many people turn at close to a 45 deg angle instead of closer to a 90 deg. angle. I usually pull up to a stop line maybe I should rethink that.
  14. Yes and it doesn't have to be slow cooked.
  15. Tried this last weekend. 2 LBS. ground venison, 2 yellow onions sliced or diced. Brown ground and onions then add 1 bottle of Dinosaur BBQ Slathering Sauce and simmer for 20 minutes or so. Cover your favorite bread or rolls open face style and try not to eat too much .
  16. Anything ceramic and the diamond sharpening rods work great to touch up edges and tips of knives and broadheads and fish hooks. When I just can't get a sharp edge I take the knife to work and let a guy there work on it.He loves a challenge.
  17. Took my nephew shooting with his Savage Axis .270 , 2 in a row out of 22 rounds failed to fire. Both primers were struck as deeply on the misfires as the the fired rounds were. The first misfire he tried a second time with the same result. The ammo was purchased last year. Is this an average failure rate for mass produced rifle ammo or should Core-lokt be avoided ? My nephew is planning on hunting with his Savage and obviously does not want to risk a misfire. Anyone else have the same issue with Core-Lokt ? How about other brands ?
  18. So last Sun. was my first time out this season : Grabbed scented insect repellent by mistake and used it before I realized what it was .Took 2 left hand gloves because those camo gloves all look the same. The best part was when I put my climber around the tree and then realized I had the base and the seat sections reversed. Oh well that is what the first hunt is usually like. Sat for 3 /12 hrs. saw nothing but still enjoyed myself.
  19. Many of the recalls on a wide range of products have been due to "globally sourced parts" . Remington 700 trigger assemblies from Mexico, GM ignition switches from China, and so on. I bet the better quality mass produced Remington firearms from the past were not assembled from foreign made components like they are today. However- the prices for the products would be much greater if these cheap foreign made components were not used.If Ruger and others can produce an American made rifle and sell it in the $300 range without issue then why even use foreign made components ? I am dissapointed to see any manufacturer leave N.Y. especially one with a long history here like Remington.I blame Cuomo and the anti-gun liberal politicians.
  20. Mine was in my mailbox today. This is the 18th season coming up that the Bowhunter Sighting Log will be used. I fill it out honestly and send it back at the end of the season. The species are Red Fox,Gray Fox,Racoon,Coyote,Turkey,Deer Bucks and Deer Doe and Fawns. The numbers are calculated per 1000 hrs. and compared to a 10 year 1000 hour avg. For example the 2014 Turkey sighting avg per 1000 hrs. was 256.52 compared to the 10 yr. avg. of 330.56 sightings per 1000 hrs. reported by bowhunters for N.Y.S. This shows what many already know, the Turkey population is down. We can argue accuracy all day long but it is what it is.
  21. I used this I bought mine from Ebay . It is re-usable and only sticks to itself. It did have an odor for a while when new. I used it on a satin silver scope to reduce glare.http://www.amazon.com/McNett-Digital-19411-Camouflage-Misc/dp/B001DT9MUQ
  22. I have been a participant for close to 20 years I think. Hopefully the information is usefull to the D.E.C.
  23. http://www.walmart.com/ip/Hunter-s-Specialties-Field-Dressing-Gloves-Combo-Pack/15111185 I use these. Dick's Sporting Goods or Wally World. Probably at more stores too. I want to get the gutting over a.s.a.p so I like these so I can cut and pull everything out faster. I put the used gloves inside out in the deer and dispose of later. Just make sure the short gloves are over the long gloves when you use them.About a dollar a pair.
