  1. I only was given a second chance permit for the West side when I applied for East side as first choice. So I was there last Fri.afternoon in the 63 deg weather and Sat.afternoon but saw no deer. Sitting has been a waste of time for the most part after opening weekend but I remain hopeful.
  2. I hunt 8m Letchworth and a State Forest. Bow hunting in the forest especially there is not a lot of pressure from hunters. Opening weekend of firearms season there was a fair amount of shooting and deer taken near me including a 10 point buck I was told. I felt safe the entire time. Thanksgiving A.M. and Black Fri. were very quiet. I walked some yesterday morning and never saw a tail. I don't know if there are less hunters, less hunters walking, less drives, less deer or all of the above but I see less deer and hear less shooting and so far have had a very frustrating season. But I will try again soon.
  3. Driving 1 hr. to State Land and hunting until 10:30 but hoping for an early morning oportunity.I will be alone as no one else can make it. I will sit and hope a deer comes by or is pushed by other hunters walking around.I have not hunted Thanksgiving in several years however I usually had a deer by now. I miss meeting my father's family at my grandfather's farm land, it was a tradition for a while.Have fun everyone.
  4. They are correct about the public land statement. Half of the people I know (myself included) that hunt do not have access to private land. The State Land I hunted yesterday had enough hunters I thought, not too crowded and I felt safe. I am sure there is plenty of private land that gets little hunting pressure in region 8 especially near Rochester. Low deer numbers at the DEC check station is because the doe population is down in my observations from this past bow season hunting in region 8.
  5. I forgot to stay in the woods all day. I left for an hour and jumped a deer near my seat when I returned. I am sure the guys that shot at it were happy, only deer I saw yesterday too. Also forgot my headlamp in my bow hunting pants but I had a flashlight backup.
  6. I hear you loud and clear, lol. You will make it happen, go through the steps in your head as you are doing them and you will make a good shot. It seems almost easy when everything clicks and oh so frustrating when it doesn't. Good luck.
  7. I also cut branches using a climber and it doesn't seem to matter however I keep it to a minimum. Doesn't seem to matter where I hunt in region 8. Branches in the way worry me more than cutting some does.
  8. Yes, yesterday in 8M. Wind in my face then on the back of my neck then in my ear. Had 4 doe coming toward me stop and turn 20 yds. out. No shot unless they would have kept coming by me.
  9. My cousin outside of Syracuse had to be treated last spring.Bit in her yard. A guy from the town I live in had to be treated too, he bowhunts and was bitten.
  10. "Remember" that is. misspelled it.
  11. My first bow was a Darton, may have been that model I can't remeber. Sold it to a friend who shot his first deer with it.
  12. So today I was out a little later, climbed a tree about 2:30 when I hear loud walking in the leaves, turn around and here comes a big 8 I have been seeing. He stops 15 yds away and trashes a bush he likes. The only problem was I had just climbed the tree and hadn't even gotten my bow pulled up yet.I thought he wouldn't be out until near dark.Yesterday he was late and I was early, today he was early and I was late.Damn.
  13. Remington 700 ADL w 3-9 Bushnell Trophy, .270 130 gr. Have not taken a deer with it so I am hoping to.
  14. Depends on area. I was out from 1-5 yesterday and deer were not moving until just before sunset. 8m.
  15. Congratulations. A public land buck in my opinion is harder to take with bow due to all of the competition.
  16. Bought a Frigidaire refrigerator from Lowes last year. First one the freezer door did not seal ,had it repaired under warranty (lost half day of work) still didn't seal. They gave me another same model and that one didn't seal either ! Finally exchanged for a Whirlpool and that one has been fine so far. My Frigidaire washing machine is from the 70's or maybe even the 60's and is still going strong. That was when appliances were made in the U.S.A. before greedy corporate C.E.O.S shipped manufacturing over seas to use the saved labor costs to fund golden parachutes.
  17. I agree, thanks for everyone's opinion. I will have to look at some of these hangers and decide. May not use one until next year but that would be a nice relief from gripping the bow for hours on stand.
  18. I could use a screw in style holder or hook I suppose, not sure it is ok to use on public land though. I think the rail on my Summit could be in the way of a bow held in the fork style holders that attach to the tubing on a climber. I thought the fork style holder might be faster to pick up a bow than reaching behind to lift off a hook.
  19. So I have been considering a bow holder , those of you that use one : How does the fork looking holders that clamp to a climber work ? It looks to me like the bow could fall out of the holder. Anyone have this happen ? Can an arrow be knocked while in the holder ? As others have said in another thread it gets uncomfortable sometimes holding on to a bow for hours. Thanks.
  20. Usually rested against rail on climber but hand and arm can get uncomfortable .
  21. This thread reminds me I need to check air pressure in donut tire as I thankfully have not needed it yet.
  22. Very entertaining comments on there. The deer was seeking help.It wanted to live. LOL oh the humanity.
