  1. Bubba and MrVJP, you guys need to get together and agree on something. Pick something, please. This kind of infighting is no good for the overall cause. It's exactly what the 'other' side wants. MrVJP, please stop belittling those of us who are ready to stand and fight for our rights in NYS. If you're ready to concede our state, and want to leave, I can't say that I think you're wrong. But a whole bunch of us are going to stay and fight it out. Be happy that we're willing to do that for the country. We may all follow some day, just not today. Bubba, thanks for standing on the front lines with us, or leading us, as the case may be. I'll have to look for the links regarding the newly proposed EPA regulations regarding essentially 'anything that can contain water': ponds, drainage ditches, etc. This is not good for anyone who owns land and wants to think they might continue to own it. In the meantime, an interesting and frightening piece regarding the cost of U.S. government regulation: U.S. Federal Regulatory Costs Are The World's 10th Largest Economy - Investors.com One would think that our money could be put to better use.
  2. Good post! The comments are particularly telling concerning the views of 'others'.
  3. I said it earlier. Let me rephrase it. You can't back down from a major battle and expect to win the war. People around the country are watching what happens here, and in CT. We are the front line with regard to 'gun control'. The support is generally outstanding, IMO. Quite honestly jumping ship is something I've given serious consideration. Granted it has more to do with the business climate and the general economic decline of the state, but second amendment rights is a big part of why I'm sticking around for a while. There is an opportunity here to stand up and be heard, loudly and clearly, that the constitution is the law. I can't back away from that right now because I feel there's just too much at stake. As much as it hurts me financially, I'm not going to run from this fight right now.
  4. Keep it if you really want it. I guess it depends on who might see it. If you don't want it, please don't destroy it. Lots of places would like to have it for educational use if it's in nice shape. I'm as suspicious as they come with regard to the government, but I don't see this being an issue with your explaination.
  5. It is, a lot of work. And patience, perseverance and sweat. Not to mention the cost of the gear involved. But when you post it on the internet, it becomes fair game so long as there's no profit motive. 34NY, you were right when you apologized for using the photo. Your rant after that was wrong. Skyhunter, great photos. Please keep them coming as we all enjoy them. But remember that privacy and internet are mutually exclusive terms.
  6. I've had an SQ2 since they came out. Deer-a-year bow for me.
  7. On the bright side, it coulda' been poison ivy. There's a leek thread going on in the food/recipe section. Please contribute.
  8. Bundy, and others, don't recognize the 'authority' of the current federal government with respect to the land in Nevada. FWIW, I have a hard time recognizing that government myself. It doesn't remotely resemble what the founding fathers intended.
  9. Can you pickle the stems like garlic scapes?
  10. Nice looking call, and nice of you to be so generous! Hope the weather works out for your event.
  11. I took the back blade and chains off the tractor about two weeks ago so that I could get firewood out of the woods before the belly mower goes on. It's definitely about timing.
  12. Congrats on the permit, Zemmer18! Wishing you the best, 34NY!
  13. If I eat 1% of the ones in my yard it feels like a win! They are tasty for the next couple of weeks though. Not recommended if you do any spraying for weed or feed, but a handful of young dandelion leaves from small plants makes a tasty salad that would cost you some bucks in a restaurant. Rinse 'em off and add a little oil and vinegar. Dice up a couple of the leeks with those greens and you're set. I'm not a grazer, but I'm happy to take advantage of it when it's there.
  14. I didn't know they would freeze okay. Then again, I usually eat 'em as fast as i can pick 'em. C'mon Bowslinger! Recipe, please. Love pickled eggs. In addition to the breakfast of 'leeks 'n sliders' they're perfect in a venison roast or stew. A fresh dandelion salad on the side makes it worth the long winter in NY. Another week or so if it doesn't snow. Can I freeze the dandelion greens too? Thanks guys!
  15. Anybody else grab wild onions this time of year? Not sure if they're leeks or shallots, but I've always been told they're leeks. I didn't argue with Grandma. For the next few weeks they're the tastiest veggie out there, and I have lots of them around me. I just grabbed two bulbs from the back yard but they're not quite ready to pick yet. Even so, I'll cook them with some potatoes for breakfast. Leeks & sliders with pumpernickel bread. Brings back some spicy memories every year. Anybody have other ways to use them?
  16. Very nice! Looks like the double I carried at about that age, 40ish years ago. Good luck!
  17. I wish you the best of luck! Stick 'em good.
  18. The U.S. flag has always represented the people of this country. Not the government of this country. At times they have been one. Not so much in the last few decades.
  19. Bad enough when you're hunting. Downright dangerous when you're running a chainsaw with a distracting swarm around your head. Scented dryer sheets tucked into the back of your hat and down your neck work a little bit. FWIW, they also keep mice away from mowers and tractors during the off-season.
  20. Fox News is pretty low on my list of go-to outlets for 'news'. They're main stream media (MSM). Part of the problem, IMO. I get my information from a wide variety of sources: left, right and in-between, and I fact-check everything before I'll believe it, or give it enough credence to write about it. The MSM has failed miserably in this case with regards to 'reporting news'. They're 'reporting' on a handful of words, taken out of context, with total disregard for the actual message of Bundy's speech. The masses eat it up, and the MSM keeps dishing it out. Fanning the heat of the flames away from the real issue. In the meantime a few people in the US look beyond the MSM, for the facts. Here's one example of someone more interested in the real content of Bundy's speech: http://www.newsmax.com/Newsfront/nevada-rancher-cliven-bundy-niger-innis/2014/04/25/id/567836/ I'll be happy to post more, if anyone's interested.
  21. Or maybe looking to get it's own reality TV show.
  22. Ya gotta win the battles before you can win the war.
  23. My first thought was an infection or parasite in the inner ear. Can cause a complete loss of balance and orientation. Not sure if this happens in deer, but I think most mammals are susceptible to it. May even have caused the broken leg, rather than being a result of it. I've seen a lot of three-legged critters do just fine in the wild, but I've never seen anything like that.
