  1. No. It was Jimmy's first place, on the corner of Dartmouth and Bailey in the Kensington area. I lived on the corner of Dartmouth and Suffolk, just down the block. It was a quick walk for lunch that I did quite often. Walk around that area now and you probably won't get home, but it wasn't horrible at the time. I remember someone starting a pool about OJ's guilt or innocence. I don't think the decision was ever made. I lost a buck.
  2. I left Facebook several years ago, although I can't formally cancel my membership. They didn't like what I had to say, and now they won't even let me back on to quit. This is not an American company.
  3. I was in the woodworking shop in my basement and heard about it on the radio. I walked to the nearest bar, Jimmy J's, just for the comic relief.
  4. I've never "built" one but I have three that I've disassembled for current legal purposes.. I'm sure I could reassemble them pretty quickly if necessary. Have fun!
  5. Happy Father's Day everyone!
  6. .223 (handgun)with a headshot at about 70 yards on a doe. Any shot other than the head was out of the question as she was right on the edge of a deep ravine that would have required substantial machinery for recovery.
  7. I still can't "like" anything today. But everything is open: recipes, sauces, gravies, spices, whatever you think... Lets see the best of the best!! What hit yer buttons here and kept you coming back? I'd guess that every one of the almost 250,000 posts here can recall something that just really sank in with them. I'm interested.
  8. I'm out of likes for the day, TF. ;-( Has anyone given thought to what their favorite shared recipes from this thread might be? I think it would be interesting to post up a list for the five year anniversary. I've used a couple of recipes from here that have been excellent, but without going back through the 500 pages of posts I'll have to go from memory.
  9. That first pic looks like a lawn-care mistake during a cookout. Don't cut your grass during a picnic. ;-)
  10. Thank you for the prayers, wolc. It means a lot to me. I was a blues, jazz, rock, and funk musician. Mostly as a drummer. My Dad likes religious chorales and church-type music. Not much connection between us when it comes to music. My Dad has a piano in his basement that he used to love to play every single day. He doesn't play at all any more. I don't know if he's forgotten how to play or if he's forgotten that he used to love it.
  11. Thank you, Paula. Laughing helps a lot more than crying. I try very hard to have laughing moments with my folks.
  12. Thank you all so much for your prayers and sympathy. We have a close-knit family, but it's nice to have a close-knit internet family as well. You folks are the best!
  13. My Mom and Dad live together, thankfully, and my Mom does what she can to keep an eye on everything. Just last week my Dad accidentally took some medication before bed that was not to be taken before bed. It seriously screwed him up for 24 hours. My Mom is trying to keep an eye on that sort of thing but Dad is a strong-willed and independent guy who doesn't appreciate being babied any more than I do. I give him a big hug every chance I get, and I pray for him. I don't know what else to do.
  14. Thank you Jerry. And sorry about your Mom.
  15. My Pop is doing the things his doctors recommend, including the medications and all. He's a retired dentist, so he's certainly not a dummy. Some days, though, it just seems like he's kind of giving up. I give him a big hug and ask him to stick around.
  16. It's just so hard being helpless against such an insidious disease. I spend a lot of time with my folks, often when I would rather be doing something else. When Mom asks about my underwear, though, the visit is over. ;-)
  17. Sometimes I just don't want to be asked every hour throughout the day if I've eaten breakfast, or lunch, or dinner and if I've had my vitamins: and whether or not my underwear is clean.
  18. Let me just say this to temper the sympathy: as much as I love my parents, and I dearly do, they've become senior "helicopter parents". I'm the oldest of four children (I'm 60) and I'm the only one who's unmarried. They drive me nuts at times. I deal with it by turning my phone off occasionally.
  19. I spend as much time as I can with both of my parents. I know that that time is likely short. I was offered a very lucrative position at a horse ranch in Lexington, KY doing custom carpentry so their uber-rich clients could see how well their horses live. It was a substantial six figure job and I turned it down because it would have meant being away from my parents at a time when they need me.They've cared about me for the sixty years that I've been here, I owe them. Some people think that sentiment is stupid. I don't.
  20. Big party planned for this Sunday!! I'm not even sure my Dad will understand why there's a party, but even my leftist brother from New Hampshire is making the trip.
  21. Thank you my friend! I pray daily for my Dad, and of course for my Mom who watches it creep in like a weird fog on a daily basis. It's a horrible disease.
  22. My Dad was diagnosed a couple of years ago with Alzheimer's. He's 79 YO, BTW, and has always been a very outgoing and gregarious person. Now he's very quiet as he retreats into his own world. I see him 2 or 3 times a week so I've definitely seen all the little changes. What blew me away was last month when I took him to the local auto wrecking yard to look for a hubcap for his truck. We didn't find a hubcap, and we were almost a half mile back in. On the walk out he stood right in front of me and said, "Son. There's a very good chance that I won't remember your name in the near future, but I'll never forget who you are and what you mean to me." I almost lost it right there. If anyone else is dealing with this horrible disease in their family, let me know how you deal with it, please. My toolkit with this kind of chit is very limited.
  23. Too big for my old Ranger, which came with four new tires in the bed anyway. Great deal Moog! I hope somebody can use them!
  24. I don't remember exactly how it was set up. The range officer/instructor is a good friend of mine and I think he made the recommendation and set things up at the range. I just wanted to do something other than a typical day at the mall or a trip for ice cream. Call a couple of ranges and see what they have to say. Some have age limits, especially with handguns, but most are pretty cool about it if there is a certified instructor doing the teaching. It doesn't hurt to ask, and it's something she will remember.
  25. I just go out fire-wooding and start the chainsaw. The deer come right to the sound. I've thought about buying a cheapo and just leaving it running under my tree stand. ;-)
