Yup......big deal. I shot 4 times at a buck the first year I got my Bowtech. Whole new set up....20 yards and shot all 4 of my arrows in my quiver at him. You talk about practice being engrained in your head until it is second nature....well that cost me a good buck. See the new sights had a bigger diameter red pin at the top and I set it at 20 yards.....the 40 yard pin was green......some of you probably guessed it...my old set up had a green 20 yard pin and I shot 4 arrows over his back and into the bank on the other side of the creek. I really don't think I could have done that with a crossbow because of the noise...but I probably would have had a crosshair and it wouldn't have been an issue ...I kept moving slow and knocking a new arrow and got more frustrated each shot. I was dead on practiced out to 45 yards and could figure what I was doing wrong. I go thome and threw all 4 arrows dead on bullseye into the target at 20 and then it dawned on me like a falling anvil. You should probably get a crossbow. : -

Yup......big deal. Whats your point arrow? Let me guess, you have none. You are smarter than that. The point is..... who cares about the crossbow's ability to deliver a second shot if a bowhunter seldom (if ever) fires a second shot? -

I still feel that anyone who supports crossbows is too lazy to learn to learn how to bowhunt. You still have to learn the basics of bowhunting, like getting close, playing the wind, waiting for the right shot, etc etc. You still have to deal with very limited range, proper shooting lanes, etc etc. Just because you dont have to draw and hold the bow right before the shot isnt that big of a deal. Having no possible ability to take a second shot is a disadvantage. Bottom line is they are both pretty equal when you consider the upsides vs the downsides of each. You guys just refuse to look at all sides of it. How many times have you taken a second shot? LMAO -

I still feel that anyone who supports crossbows is too lazy to learn to learn how to bowhunt. Yeah because learning how to bowhunt is so much better than learning how to hunt with a crossbow... : Yup. Then you are a bowhunter. ;D And that is different than just a hunter how?? Bet you can figure it out, Einstein, since you have all the answers. -

I still feel that anyone who supports crossbows is too lazy to learn to learn how to bowhunt. So let me get this straight out of your purely emotional reply......since I support the inclusion of crossbow in archery season for others but do not intend on using one....that makes me to lazy? Sympathetic to the lazy dudes, anyway. -

Probably not, though. If you want to bowhunt, why don't you just buy a compound? Then you could legally hunt in bowseason in all 50- states. -
Hmmm, I would think that the owner could ask someone to leave his unposted property, couldn't they? If you have specific permission from the owner to hunt this unposted property I would think you could ask someone to leave also. That is why this issue is a muddy one and can lead to a lot of trouble. It's simply best NOT to hunt land that you don't have permission whether it's posted or not. Using this quirky law as a defense simply won't cut it in the majority of cases in my honest opinion. It's bound to cause problems and end in a not so nice fashion. I agree. The law needs to be changed. I can't run anyone off because the owner really doesn't care who hunts on it. He is fine with people walking on and hunting it. Last year I had a dude walk in with a ladder stand and start setting up 50 yards from me. I got his attention, and he hollered "Do you have permission to hunt here?" I said "Yes....Do you?" He said...."Its not posted." :

It could be 20 years before they allow crossbows into bowseason. I wouldn't sell your compounds just yet. -
So....the first thing you need to do is stop assuming that just because someone is explaining the loophole in the law to you means that they are exploiting that loophole, or even supporting that loophole. I am just telling you how it is. I hunt 2 properties, WITH permission. One is posted, one is not. I can not run trespassers out of the unposted property because it is unposted, and not mine. It is just a fact of life.

Yea, I always thought it would be cool if there was a checklist that we could assign our taxes to different categories....like defense. It would become quickly apparent to our lawmakers what programs the nation thought were important...and what was not. -
I don't know how many actually would condone the practice (I do not), but the law is very clear. It is legal to hunt on unposted, unfenced, uninhabited land. If you are told to get out by the landowner (or his representative) you must then treat the land as if it were posted. Its a stupid law. But that is the law.

We'll see.....I doubt it. If you want to hunt in NY bowseason, you are gonna need a bow. -

You never really answered the questions regarding taxes, and who is stealing from you. Do you think you should not have to pay taxes? -

Since they represent ALL NY bowhunters....you are probably right. ;D -
Rules are rules. Not a damn thing you can do about it .... not posted means open. I don't like it either, but it is what it is, legally.
