  1. The deer head seemed like one of the easier things to do.... I am sure I don't have the patience for a turkey or a fish...lol
  2. I agree... Doc... It shouldn't really be necessary to have a minimum distance at all in my eyes...But, these kind of laws are created to protect people from the irresponsible members of any group.
  3. I would rather Ted be defending my 2nd Amendment right than at least 3 of you guys on this thread... and I'm not a huge fan of Nugent... but right is right and... he is right. Just wonder too for all of you that are so concerned that a persons background has anything to do with how well they can perform a given task like defending our 2nd amendment right... if you were faced with a situation where there was only one surgeon that could save your childs life... would you really care if he cheated on his wife???
  4. How about listening to the barking dog chained to the deck on the back of the house? That's always a real treat...lol
  5. I have never cared about the the distance rule since I never bowhunt close enough to where I could hit a house even if I wanted to... but i could undertsand the bad neighbor thing and the BS shed... still.. I'm pretty sure I could hunt from someones driveway or their front porch and never worry about hitting anyone or anything I wasn't aiming at... and I'm sure there are lots of guys here just as responsible... unfortunately, the rules are not created with the responsible guy in mind.. it's the irresponsible guy everyone is worried about.
  6. I helped with my last one and it was fun... my friend "the real taxidermist" guided me through some of the tough stuff and taught me some tricks... the process is easy, but getting the right look and doing things so that the mount lasts is where the real talent comes in... details matter... that is unless you don't care about details.. i do.. otherwise I'll just hang the horns on a hook. This was my first attempt at it... I think it came out ok... not great, but nice.
  7. Common sense tells me that there are no statistics that back up the statement that crossbows are more dangerous than compounds... and you also can not do things with a xbow that you can with a bow.. lets all be very clear about where the real argument against crossbows is... it is simply that some bowhunters ( roughly 2000 of the 200,000 in NY) feel threatened that somehow the crossbow hunter is going to ruin bowhunting season by being in the woods at the same time as they are and might kill a deer or two... it has nothing to do with safety, or any of the other nonsense that the anti crossbow people have come up with to fight their battle... everyone knows it... so why do we continue to blow smoke up each others rearends?
  8. Stay on point Doe.. we are only talking about gun control here... everyone has skeletons in their closet if you dig deep enough... we're only talking about his stance on the 2nd Amendment here... and how well he defends it without backing down... which has nothing to do with race, who he's sleeping with, where he hunts, or how many times he got busted. You don't have to like him to be smart enough to realize he's right about this one.
  9. I can tell you first hand that this type of thing runs rampant in the world of outdoor TV... not quite as much today as a decade or 3 ago... had to keep advertisers happy if you wanted to continue to have a show... especially in the days before The Outdoor Channel... today with qdm programs and food plots.. it is much easier to get "fair chase" footage for television... and trail cams have made it easier to lock in on good camera shooting areas as well as good bucks... unfortunately, there will always be bad eggs in the basket... just be carefully picking your next hunting show hero... try to remember these hunting shows are ALL about money and recognition... period. Some of these so called hunting guru's kill the best bucks money can buy in the name of outdoor TV... let them loose here in the Adirondacks without their guides, gps, and $1,000 Gator and you might never here from them again.
  10. Yeah it was a great idea then and a better one now. Both sides get exactly what they want... no more bickering between ideologies... choose a side and live with your choice... you and Steve should like this part the best --We'll keep "The Battle Hymn of the Republic" and "The National Anthem." --I'm sure you'll be happy to substitute "Imagine", "I'd Like to Teach the World to Sing", "Kum Ba Ya" or "We Are the World".
  11. The fact that some of you don't think their is a right or left in this country might just be part of the problem... there is a right and a left even on this forum for crying out loud... having one ideal or belief that is the same does not constitute being a centerist.. read the first post again.. it illustrates quite well the left and right thinking in this country.. as for big business... Cabelas is big business.. but I see that a lot of you still give them your money... I think you mean only the big businesses that you don't like are hurting the country.
  12. HAHA.. there is no response...it makes perfect sense... they will get everything they always wanted, just the way they asked for it... they should be more careful what they wish for ..huh?? This kid gave it a lot of thought and knocked it out of the park... there is still hope for America!
  13. I laugh when teachers say how tough they have it.. I'll bring you them to work with me for one day and they'll beg to go back to teaching... we all make choices... if yours is teaching.. then you should have an idea of what you're getting into.. most of what the guys here are talking about anyway is college level teachers and professors... where the majority are liberal progressive types that believe in a welfare state and pass their beliefs on to their students. You are correct though that we all have created these " me generation" monsters not just teachers, but parents as well. In your defense as a teacher, if you taught the way I was taught and disiplined the way I was in school (the old fashioned way)... they would throw you in jail..lol
  14. Always cut everything away.. nothing but meat... and for those that use a bandsaw to cut your meat.. venison is not like beef and should not be processd the same way... unlike beef fat and pork fat...deer fat is venisons worst enemy when it comes to taste and prolonged storage... that applies to the "silver lining" too.
  15. As the father of a son that had cancer.. it is always good to see people doing what they can to help out... there really are some very good people in the world.
  16. Hunting is not unsafe.. nor is the crossbow.. some hunters are unsafe... regardless of what weapon they are carrying... a crossbow is no more unsafe than , let's say, a chicken bone... and I'm guessing more people have died choking on a chicken bone than hunting with a crossbow... next thing we'll be saying is that hunting with a chicken bone is unsafe..lol.. just trying to illustrate how rediculous the unsafe argument is when talking about the crossbow...most anti-crossbow opinions are usually fueled by some bowhunter or bowhunting group telling you that you are not suppose to like crossbows... and even they... don't really know why.
  17. The person who wrote this is a college student. Perhaps there is hope for us after all. DIVORCE AGREEMENT THIS IS SO INCREDIBLY WELL PUT AND I CAN HARDLY BELIEVE IT'S BY A YOUNG PERSON, A STUDENT!!! WHATEVER HE RUNS FOR, I'LL VOTE FOR HIM. Dear American liberals, leftists, social progressives, socialists, Marxists and Obama supporters, et al: We have stuck together since the late 1950's for the sake of the kids, but the whole of this latest election process has made me realize that I want a divorce. I know we tolerated each other for many years for the sake of future generations, but sadly, this relationship has clearly run its course. Our two ideological sides of America cannot and will not ever agree on what is right for us all, so let's just end it on friendly terms. We can smile and chalk it up to irreconcilable differences and go our own way. Here is a model separation agreement: --Our two groups can equitably divide up the country by landmass each taking a similar portion. That will be the difficult part, but I am sure our two sides can come to a friendly agreement. After that, it should be relatively easy! Our respective representatives can effortlessly divide other assets since both sides have such distinct and disparate tastes. --We don't like redistributive taxes so you can keep them. --You are welcome to the liberal judges and the ACLU. --Since you hate guns and war, we'll take our firearms, the cops, the NRA and the military. --We'll take the nasty, smelly oil industry and you can go with wind, solar and biodiesel. --You can keep Oprah, Michael Moore and Rosie O'Donnell. You are, however, responsible for finding a bio-diesel vehicle big enough to move all three of them. --We'll keep capitalism, greedy corporations, pharmaceutical companies, Wal-Mart and Wall Street. --You can have your beloved lifelong welfare dwellers, food stamps, homeless, homeboys, hippies, druggies and illegal aliens. --We'll keep the hot Alaskan hockey moms, greedy CEO's and rednecks. --We'll keep the Bibles and give you NBC and Hollywood. --You can make nice with Iran and Palestine and we'll retain the right to invade and hammer places that threaten us. --You can have the peaceniks and war protesters. When our allies or our way of life are under assault, we'll help provide them security. --We'll keep our Judeo-Christian values. --You are welcome to Islam, Scientology, Humanism, political correctness and Shirley McClain. You can also have the U.N. but we will no longer be paying the bill. --We'll keep the SUV's, pickup trucks and oversized luxury cars. You can take every Volt and Leaf you can find. --You can give everyone healthcare if you can find any practicing doctors. --We'll continue to believe healthcare is a luxury and not a right. --We'll keep "The Battle Hymn of the Republic" and "The National Anthem." --I'm sure you'll be happy to substitute "Imagine", "I'd Like to Teach the World to Sing", "Kum Ba Ya" or "We Are the World". --We'll practice trickle-down economics and you can continue to give trickle up poverty your best shot. --Since it often so offends you, we'll keep our history, our name and our flag. Would you agree to this? If so, please pass it along to other like-minded liberal and conservative patriots and if you do not agree, just hit delete. In the spirit of friendly parting, I'll bet you answer which one of us will need whose help in 15 years. Sincerely, John J. Wall Law Student and an American P.S. Also, please take Ted Turner, Sean Penn, Martin & Charlie Sheen, Barbara Streisand, & ( Hanoi ) Jane Fonda with you. P.S.S. And you won't have to press 1 for English when you call our country. Forward This Every Time You Get It ! Let's Keep This Going, Maybe Some Of It Will Start Sinking In!!
  18. Another good sign that you are on a buck track is that most bigger bucks during hunting season tend to be loners and travel off the beaten path... they will travel in thicker cover as well... a good size single track away from regular deer trails I'm gonna take every time... usually I'm not disappointed.
  19. I have a friend who has been trying to get me to do a canoe hunt with him in the tughill region... maybe I'll take him up on it now... he catches a lot of nice bucks at the waters edge during the early morning hours.
  20. I'll post some pics as soon as I find my USB cord for my camera..lol
