OK guy's Call your lawmakers
nyantler replied to sits in trees's topic in NYS DEC News and Annoucements
So far.. Arrowflinger has answered none of the simple questions asked of him.. all he has offered is contradictions based on personal opinion.. I still want to hear how someone hunting with a crossbow during bow season will somehow affect his bowhunting experience -
Thats why I hunt on the ground... nobody can take my spot cuz I don't have one..

So I'll ask you again Arrowflinger... Why the opposition to crossbow in NY during bow season.. how does it interfere with your bowhunting experience if someone else is hunting with a crossbow? I also bowhunt with a recuve and still can't figure out how someone else using a crossbow will make any differnce in my hunting experience during bow season -

Simple Bubba.. in the area where the AR was implemented there would be more does taken to offset and make room for the additional bucks not taken.. these plans have been implemented all over the country without any problems... it isn't like the whole AR thing has never been attempted before... you can pick apart the plan all you want, but the proof of how GOOD AR's work have already been seen all across the country and even here in NY. The problem areas in NY are those areas where hunters have been left to do what THEY think needs to be done not what needs to be done in the way of producing a more balanced buck herd. Take a look at any property where hunters have already started their own QDM plan.. I never here them complaining about the problems you just described. I will be the first to agree that if AR's are devised simply to make more big bucks to kill then thats not a reason to have them.. I am just in favor of having a better balance and representation in the age classes of bucks Rocket.. get off the whole antler thing.. you still don't get the whole buck age structure concept.

Whatever happens with weapons and seasons should have more to do with deerhunting as a whole than any one persons opinion about how it would affect their hunting personally... I would argue that the NYB bitches the most and has it the best as far as length of season in NY. -
AR wouldn't necessarily have to mean less total deer kill... but i'll concede that there can't just be a blanket AR across the state.. and I would rather there be no need for AR as well... but it is a fact that NY is lacking when it comes to a solid age structure when it comes to whitetail bucks in most of the state with the exclusion maybe of the Adirondack Park... if hunters would show some restraint on their own maybe that would change...

so now that you have told us how you feel about crossbows.. you still haven't answered my question... I'm not trying to argue with you.. I just asked you a question...how is that rude? If you are going to take a position against crossbows being used by the physically handicapped.. tell me how it would affect your bowhunting if a disabled hunter used a crossbow during the bow season... your argument is like NYB's in that it has told us about what it thinks are the diffences of the crossbow... but not exactly how someone using a crossbow would interupt your personal bowhunting experience. -
most of the southern zone is agricultural with very little snow compared to some of the northern zone areas... deer will adapt just fine in the south where food is plentiful... if they get hungry enough they can find the shrubs in your yard to eat plus.. didn't Phil the grounhog just predict only 6 weeks left of winter??

Bubba, I contend that it is more foolish to believe that man has not already altered nature with his intrusion on their habitat.. If we are going to continue to consume the land that nature occupies... it is our duty to make sure that what we leave for nature will sustain it. I agree that where you and I hunt there are plenty of good bucks.. but that is not true everywhere and that is a direct result of mans intrusion and his decision on how, when and what is being harvested...that applies to every animal not just whitetails

It has everything to do with knowing why you are so deadset against the crossbow.. it has to be because it will somehow disrupt your hunting... if not.. why the opposition to the crossbow? Somehow I knew you might try to find a way not to answer the question. -
No more smoking in City parks and beaches.
nyantler replied to First-light's topic in General Chit Chat
I quit smoking cigarettes in the 80's .. but i love a good cigar... the government seems to forget who pays for those parks and beaches... some of those tax payers are smokers..... private entities should be able to ban whatever they like. But, until they make smoking illegal I would think that smoking in a publically funded areas (especially outdoor areas) should be legal. It all started with the ban on smoking in a bar or restaurant... where the government told a private business owner that people could not smoke in HIS establishment. -
The winter is rough but there are numerous yarding areas... there is plenty of state land in the area but 40 acres of your own would be nice...the deer herd is ample just not the quality of bucks that I like... the village of Annsville is very quaint. I would recommend looking up a company called Christmas & Associates.. they sell recreational land and cabins in that area at a very resonable. I know the owner personally and just bought a new camp from them in Redfield, NY. Check out their website.. you can find a link to their site on the links page of my website... http://www.nyantler-outdoors.com/deer-hunting-links.html

Arrowflinger.. How would a guy with a crossbow affect YOUR hunting during the bow season? Do you hunt with compound or trad bow? If you hunt with a compound.. I would be curious to know as well how that same crossbow hunter would interfere with YOUR bowhunting by having his crossbow instead of your compound. -

the model 36's are sharp rifles.. -
My opinion is that ARs are just a start for those that have a tough time passing up yearling bucks... I think most hunters already know the difference between a big buck and a yearling... i think things would work better if guys would just show some restraint on their own... the best thing would be hunters voluntarily passing on small bucks... so educating them on why is probably more important than mandating it... those of us that already have their own voluntary AR get just as much enjoyment out of hunting as those who haven't started yet

I don't need a no bucks season.. I would just shoot an older buck... they are more of a challenge to hunt. Passing on yearlings accomplishes the same thing as no bucks and guy would still be able to gun hunt... although if they pass a no bucks for three years rule.. I could do it standing on my head.. What ??? the earth isn't flat???

Its a great area for wildlife, but it does get hunted hard... I have hunted an area very close to there call 46 corners and guys shoot anything and everything there. If you're looking for a great place to teach the kids about the outdoors and camping and such its a great area... if you are looking for quality bucks.. welll.. maybe not as good

LOL that'll slow 'em down some!!
-
Not sure how you came up with that conclusion, but you're absolutely wrong... but lets say you are right...then we can just ad an amendment to the law that saws you can take a buck of with lesser spread if his rack scores 120 or better... even with a smaller spread you can tell a big buck from a yearling... it isn't that hard.. a big buck is simply that.. a BIG Buck
