  1. I have used a single shot 30-06 for years but last year acquired an old model 94 Winchester 30-30 from a buddy that i used in 2010.. I love it... I was looking at a Henry 30-30 just before my friend gave me his 30-30.. I have another friend that just bought a new Henry and I've shot it.. thats a great rifle as well
  2. Right, because a treestand is equivalent to a human life. : I had a blind stolen from me this past season. I might spit in the face of the person who took it, but I would never condone shooting them. Aw come on... one bullet in the foot??
  3. Now there is an AR.. the restriction is.. no antlers at all. I think that a choice between that and a spread restriction.. hunters would pick the spread restriction
  4. OK. The rest of the lazy guys...no way. If we didn't let lazy guys hunt.. half the hunting population would be gone..
  5. how could using a crossbow during the bow season have any affect on other bow hunters... ?? A crossbow is nothing more than a glorified compound bow... the features are nearly the same... no matter how you try to spin it.. and th 85% let off one th compounds is almost like having the bow cocked... if it has limbs, a string and an arrow its a bow... stop the whining and hunt and give disabled hunters the same chance to hunt
  6. Noodle.. at 25 yards with a scope looking right at a deers head.. how could you not see horns??? I can't belive all you guys let that pass likes it's ok... that is not a mistake.. thats a guy not taking the time to identify his target and the "I have to kill a deer at all costs" mentality.. and the same with the guys shooting two deer ay once without knowing they shot the other.. and you are right about a game warden not believing you, he doesn't have to believe you.. it is all of our responsibilities as hunters to make sure we know exactly what we are shooting at and what is beyond that target..period... and NO nothing like that has ever happened to me... i always know exactly what I'm shooting at or else I don't take the shot
  7. And again Rocket speaks without me being able to tell what the hell he is talking about... all I know is that you can't go a page on a thread without calling someone an idiot... you know what they say about people that live in glass houses...nah.. nevermind... I'm sure you don't know
  8. I think without some newbies getting involved the rest of us are all argued out..
  9. Well I've seen the bucks you've been harvesting so we know that part is working fine.. we have 1000 acres and its still difficult to get an accurate count... trail cames don't work all that well unless you have some way of telling different doe apart... the late season doe harvest for us is all that we can come up with.. but the doe population numbers fluctuate drastically year in and year out.. i think without sofisticated equipment it would be hard to do it any other way. We have had years where we have decided not to take as many does due to buck to doe sightings throughout the season.. only to see the ratio skewed again the following year... not sure what the answer is...
  10. We have the same problem on our leased land.. hard to come up with an accurate count each year.. thats why we usually wait until muzzleloader before taking doe off the property.. we use or season sightings as a gauge for the amount of doe we think we want to harvest... without radio collars and a plane its the best we can come up with..lol
  11. How would you know anyway if the hair you saw in a bear's scat was from a fawn or from a bear feeding on an already dead deer... ? And what would be the remedy if the bear were eating fawns? eliminate the bear population so that more the deer could survive?... why is one species more important than another?
  12. What you call compromise .. I call giving in... It's like saying we need to compromise with terrorists so that something with get done about terrorism.. And as for doing something to stop illegal sale of handguns.. How many more laws to we need that say you can't sell guns illegally...?
  13. Wouldn't it be great to boycott gasoline for one weekend.. just a Saturday and Sunday where nobody drove a vehicle at all. That would be a huge wake up call for big oil...
  14. I have been playing the mandolin since about the 8th grade... bluegrass mostly ... I also play the fiddle , guitar, and a little banjo and harmonica.
  15. The current administration has not even addressed this issue... high gas prices have a huge impact during these wounded economic times... I guess gas prices do not affect politicians that get driven or flown to and fro in limo's and private jets at the expence of tax payers. Maybe Obama will appoint a usless czar with a staff of 100 all making 2-3 times the current private sector average wage... and with an incentive of free health care and a huge pension plan they should be able to come up with a solution in the next 1000 years
  16. good story CW.. thats one to tell the grandchildren
  17. hmmm.. not really seeing anything that looked like amountain lion to me.. but then again it didn't look like anything in particular... could have been a dog, cat, fox.. how could you tell from that video?
  18. Yeah I guess if you aren't hunting deer it would be easy to pass on yearlings..
  19. Bigger bucks need more than just heavy cover sometimes.. they seem to bed where they also have a good vantage point for spotting approaching danger... predominant wind direction into an area I think plays a big role in where bucks choose to bed as well. In my experience tracking bucks i have found that they usually bed with there backs against heavy cover facing into the wind... making them tough to see coming up from behind them... I have found myself looking right at bucks bedded 30-40 yards away without seeing them
