trophy size stuff can go for big bucks.. average stuff gets average money..but there is definitely a market for mounted animals.

Nobody said it wasn't great that the guy found it.. we were just saying that for us it would be a little lack luster... I commend the guy if he looked for 6 days and finally found the buck... my experience with this sort of thing is the guy continues hunting and while hunting hopes to find his buck... nobidy is taking anything away from the fact that the guy killed it, but you have to admit it isn't the same finding it 6 days later as finding it immediately or even the next day... this real issue would be how he found it.. if he was actively looking for six days instead of hunting I'd say it speaks volumes about the guys character as a deer hunter.. if he fell on it by chance while hunting or someone else happened pon it thats a bit different... either way it's still a hell of a buck and congrats to the guy on recovering it.

the crossbow is also hand held and hand drawn.. you just don't like that it is drawn before hand... I have insisted nothing, you just continue to get shot down everytime you make a statement...and you really don't like it... so you try to make up something else, which gets shot down as well -

The whole point of a forum is to discuss.. not accept and move on... this is nothing more than heated discussion.. and whether anyone admits it or not .. we all learn something during these arguments... even if it is just how ridiculous some points are... -

the answer is simple .. have the bowhunter stop treating the crossbow as such a threat to bowhunting.. arrowflinger keeps talking about opposing the crossbow on principle.. I don't see the principle. -

Totally honest. I shouldered it the same. I aimed it the same. I flipped off the safety the same. I took a deep breath and let out half, like I do when I am shooting guns, and squeezed the trigger just like I did on my old smoothbore. Ithit the bullseye at 40 yards just as surely as I would expect with my shotgun. No difference but the boom. At only 350 fps instead of 1500 -
NY DEC: Southern Zone Deer Harvest Reports Up Slightly
nyantler replied to HuntingNY's topic in NYS DEC News and Annoucements
I find it interesting that the deer take has decreased every year since the change in the reporting process in 2002.. there was a rise every year prior to 2002 then a sharp decline from 2002 to the present. -

well nobody is talking about taking any of the season away from bowhunters...just inclusion of crossbow into the bow season -

I think its funny when crossbow pushers characterize the placement of crossbows into gun season as a loss. I think it was brilliant positioning by NYB. They have made it so that the wording is extremely specific. Crossbows are excluded not only from bow season, but from definitions, regulations, even hunters safety. The crossbow is lumped in with firearms every step of the way. There is even very specific that crossbows cannot be allowed before the regular season....even if an early MZ is made legal. They have made it very clear that in know way should crossbows be confused with real bows. Best of all, when crossbow pushers clamor for full intrusion into bowseason we can say: "Shut up, you already have a season, now stop your whining you crybabies." Because thats how adults speak to each other right...?? I still would love to hear a good explaination (which you still haven't given) about how the crossbow has anything to do with hurting bow season... the rest of the "reduces the number of bowhunters" BS we have already proven not true.. it just gives other bowhunters a choice that you just don't like.. the crossBOW I've never seen such a solid stance on something so non-threatening in my life. NYB members literally foam at the mouth at the mention of the word crossbow...seems very odd to me.. and thats coming from a long time traditional bowhunter here. -
Thank you I stand corrected..Roux it is... I also make a roux using flour and olive oil... cook... stirring continuosly until the mixture looks like light chocolate syrup
-
If you learn to make a good rue first.. which is just flour and water that has been cooked and stirred repeatedly until it turns a particular color... you will find that any stew comes out with a perfect gravy consistancy... it takes about 1/2 hour or so to make a really good rue be fore making your stew, but worth the time for the outcome of the stew. Most gumbo recipes have great rue instuctions in the recipe.

Big Game/Small Game Hunting License Fee Increase
nyantler replied to wztirem's topic in General Hunting
has anyone paid attention to the results of this survey so far.. the question is how much are you willing to pay? 12 guys voted lessen the fee... that would mean that those 12 guys are not willing to pay the current price... does that mean that they won't be hunting? Of course everyone might be happy if the price went down.. but that wasn't the question. This is how surveys get skewed... I'm sure that those 12 guys are willing to pay at least the current fee and I'll bet they would pay more... to continue to hunt. -

Well we have one on the plate right now and I really hope it goes through. It needs to go through Mark my words.. the NYB will try to put the nix on it. -
Although I feel kind of the same way.. But I would enter the buck in the Big Buck club as found dead just to make sure the antlers were recorded for future hunters to see.. I would mount the deer for the deers sake not as a personal harvested trophy... the main reason that the Big Buck Club exists in NY is as a record keeping for the deer.. not the hunter.. we just give the hunter his 15 minutes of fame as a means to record beautiful bucks for future generations to witness. And a good thing we did or many would never have heard of the "Roosevelt Luckey" buck which would have fallen through the cracks and disappeared if not for the NYBBC

I had a water pistol that looked just like German Luger when I was kid.. I wonder if because it looked so much like a real Luger pistol if it would have been considered a superior weaponand treated as a threat to my garden hose.. -
Hunters name is Pete Cuervo.. the buck officially scored 192 1/8 non-typical

I'm with you on that Steve

it doesn't accomplish what AR is designed to do, so there is no comparison as an alternative to AR... its apples and oranges and serves no real purpose than to make it easier and unsportsmanlike to kill a deer

How is it that something so reasonable as that.. has yet to be done by the DEC? I don't get it... instead they survey 2500 hunters and I'm never one of them
