Hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving.

I looked thru the ads last night. Someone had a 24 gun fire safe on sale for $450 which I though was really a good deal, since I paid $360is for a 14 gun non fire rated several years ago..

I agree.. I'm not the 'LAW', or looking to pass judgment on anyone, what you do is your business.. What concerns me is too many people 'change' when alcohol is added to their bodies, and having high powered guns in the mix won't lead to 'good things'. Just as some may choose to consume while hunting, I choose not to be around them then.. Now, when we get home, first rounds on me!

Welcome to the site! That's one NICE buck! Congrats!

Welcome to the site! My wife would complain about hunting expenses, until I bought a boat! 8)

Welcome to the Site, from another LI'er. Hope you tagged that buck!

Living in the Adks, I'm jealous! ;D ;D Welcome to the site.

Welocme!! This site is the resource for NY sportsmen, and by far the best one I've found..
-
I heard on guy shot a small buck in Bates SF opening day, but they were still tracking it when I left, & I didn't see any deer in trucks up there.. Only saw 4 deer whole way down to LI in trucks.. Welcome to the Site.

The real reason for no center fires during deer season on yotes is, DEC doesn't trust someone will jack a monster buck that comes around while they are 'yote hunting.. I think they are a nuisance animal with no 'control' predator higher on the food chain, so they should be open season year round..

My F-I-Law used to hunt them years back. He always gave them to other guys, or the farmer for the dogs.. Said they were REALLY smart, posting a 'lookout' bird, and explained how they would drive the fence line, drop 2 guys out the moving car to take up posts while the car rolled on.. If the car stopped, they'd be busted.. That's a smart bird to me!

For all the 'Yote & Bobcat hunters, I found this site a while ago.. http://www.predatormastersforums.com/index.shtml It has the usual info/forum, tons of info.. The goldmine is the 'Tech Section'. It has directions to make your own electronic call using your ipod, digital calling files, ect.. Everything you need to get started, DIY style, on the cheap.. And in this economy, WHO isn't trying to maximize a buck! Enjoy!

Sorry for your loss, but I can think of only one way to pass that MIGHT be better than while hunting.. You gotta just cherish all those other memories you've made with him over the years a little bit more, and share them with future family generations..

I un-bagged 2 young turkeys I scouted Waldbaums long & hard for.. They didnt respond to my calls, so I had to go in after them.. Hope everyone had a Happy Thanksgiving, and successful hunt..
-
Nice! I usually take pics, but didn't see anything worth 'shooting', all 1-2" trees so far..
-
Unfortunately, as with everything else in life, how something is handled WILL depend on who actually responds to a call.. Some individuals may be a bit more 'lax', others not so. To protect yourself, find out who is the land owner prior.. Also helpful if someone approaches in the field claiming ownership & you KNOW the county owns it..

Congats to the successful hunter! Definitely a lifetime memory..

We don't bring booze, they're for after the trip home, at home..
-
Not empty, just a little 'snack' to keep the hunger pangs away.. I usually snack on oat/choclate bars, deer jerky, and whatever else I can find small.. I tote puddings, cocoa, soup & buttered rolls for lunches on stand.

The moon, and crazy temp swings may play a big factor in this.. It's coolest at night, and with all the moonlight, the deer are probably active then. Anyone still have any game cams out in the woods?? What are they showing??
-
Nice! I heard them howling opener morning, and had hoped they'd make an appearance if the deer didn't..
-
Pa has an elk herd, just read the pa site last night, they 'raffle' 50 tags a year.. Could it possibly be an 'escapee' from a farm raising elk in the area? If you Google 'Elk Farm NY', you'll find quite a few..

I was on state land in southern Scholarie county. Saw 4 'groups' of hunters, 3-5 men each, plus a single guy who walked right up & thru a shelf I was posting on for the evening hunt.. > but that's about it. I saw one doe hunting all day sat & sun morning, 8 small rubs, and no scat. A group from Westchester & NJ who I talked with coming out sat night said one saw 4 deer on the run, no shot, and another in their group hit a buck but the others in the group were still tracking it when I was leaving. Sunday, the woods were void of hunters & deer as well.. I don't know but the shooting was less than usual, and I'd say the wind had cut down on alot of deer movement. Saw 2 does feeding off the thruway & 3 road kills between exits 19-17, and a grand total of 4 deer strapped to trucks on the way down.. I was successfull at tracking down & eating at 'Five Guys' so it wasn't a total loss.

Thanks for all the help/suggestions..I returned it today, no questions asked.. I have the rubber pac-man puller, didnt help.. I'll keep the armor all in mind but I think it may be counterproductive.. What's to stop your hand from sliding on the armor all when pulling? I don't really think it would have helped though, had to put a knee on the target when pulling every shot out.. Dick's had a whole mess of cube type targets, gonna check them out when I get back there..

Co-worker has a club with a lease in Columbia. They'll be up there.. They usually do pretty good..
