Campfire, beer and only me. Just the way I like it. Wait, does that sound antisocial?

Rototilling all the gardens between the morning and late day rains. Now it's time to grill some venison tenderloin cutlets and enjoy a new brew. The best beer I've had out of Canada.

Hey Aboa13, Foothills is in Winston-Salem. 638 West 4th St. They have a nice brewpub and live music most weekends. NC is loaded with great breweries, you'll have a great time down there.

Enjoying a pale ale from Foothills Brewing in NC. My hunting buddies son is the head brewer down there. He moved there from Siuthern Tier. Very good brews down in NC and a great music scene. The new kitchen countertops were installed this week and I've finished all the trim and plumbing work. Definitely time to kick back with a couple of good brews. How do you turn these darn pics?
  11. I run a chain saw maybe 25 days a year. Clearing brush 2-3 times a year and the rest cutting up purchased logs for firewood. So I'm certainly not a professional but I've been doing this for 25 years and I have always tried to minimize the risk to myself with a quality helmet/ face screen/ear mufflers, chaps and steel toed boots. I also wear gloves but not loose ones. I avoid loose clothing but it's almost always Carhart pants and flannel shirts. The few near misse that I've had have always been a result of careless moves by me, and coupled with being overtired. I have to keep reminding myself,"there's always tomorrow.". And then I go have a beer....

Watching a new Deadliest Catch and this seemed like the right beer for the occasion. Am I thinking this thru too much?

Settled in to watch a taped delay of the Masters with a good beer and doesn't my buddy text me the result! Lesson learned. Put the phone away before watching a taped sports show.... anyhow, the beer is great.

Another rainy night, another night in front of the fire with a good beer. Not a bad night at all...
  15. These were found by a friend over two days last week. The big one in the back has a 17.5" spread

A damp Friday night by the fire with Three Heads The Kind.
  18. Larry302, that is a great picture! That could be me and my buddies in 1980 as we did some hiking/climbing in the San Juans that summer. Isn't it amazing how we managed to survive in blue jeans and cotton T-shirts? Modern gear is a huge advantage. By the way, I heartily endorse that rafting trip in Alaska! Try the Hulahula River in ANWR. It runs from the North side of the Brooks Range up to the Arctic Ocean near the native village of Kattovik where you can catch a commercial flight back to Fairbanks. Incredible trip. You deserve to treat yourself at 60. I'm working on my plan for summer of '18 as I turn 60 Gotta make the most of it, I'm constantly amazed that I've made it this far and I'm betting you think the same way. Slower, but definitely smarter.
  19. Try Medved over on Monroe Ave in Pittsford. Really excellent, knowledgeable staff. They carry a great selection of hiking shoes/boots and know how to fit you right.. Not cheap but your feet are no place to skimp if you want to enjoy your trips..
  20. Ribeye on the grill! My birthday dinner along with grilled asparagus and homemade steak fries... and some Southern Tier Old Man Winter. Nothing like grilling at 9 degrees.

    Beer

Enjoying Old Man Winter and grilling ribeye steaks for my birthday. The temp is down to 9 degrees here but the grilling is fine, four beers in! Luckily the wind has calmed down from earlier. I'm thinking that this will be a good hot tub night. A soak in the tub and a roll in the snow. Repeat. It really gets the circulation moving!

Fletch, I think that you should have us ALL over to help you lighten that load! Great selection. Enjoying my Singlecut IIPA on Christmas evening.
  23. I trust the professionals that we employ through the DEC to use the best science available to determine how best to manage our deer herd. I remember in the 70's when it took four hunters to apply for one doe tag. Compared to today...4 doe tags for one hunter! i fully realize that there is always going to be political influence on decisions like specific weapon/ season lengths and that every option can be considered but if you want to influence policy, try joining your local sportsmens club and amplifying your voice thru the organizations that have at least some voice at the decision-making level. Again, things are so much better than a few decades ago, enjoy this golden age!
  24. The deer hunting gods are smiling upon me! Another doe down. I shot her as she came up the edge of the field but couldn't figure out where she went after the smoke cleared. After I reloaded and came around the corner of the woods, I figured out why I couldn't see her. Turns out she dropped on the spot and tumbled down into a drainage ditch. Almost submerged and almost too steep to pull her out without help. Wouldn't you know it, my forty year old drag rope broke as I was hauling her out and right back into the water she goes! Much easier drag than yesterday but two drags in two days has me feeling best. Not complaining as it has been great fun but I'll feel it tomorrow.
