    Beer

Ah, hell. Back to the upside down pic. Oh well, time for another beer.

    Beer

Kicking back after celebrating the end of the Bills drought. Lieutenant Dan IPA by War Horse Brewing in Geneva. Very good IPA.

    Beer

Leila Brewing Polymorphis Series 2 IPA. A nice finish to the Christmas madness. Hoping all have had a Merry Christmas and are looking forward to next years hunting season.
  4. The last hurrah! Here's hoping for some participation on the part of the deer on this windy, mild day. Best of luck to all.

A good brew at the end of a fruitless muzzleloader day. An excellent DIPA
  6. I came from a suburban family in which no one hunted, so I'm pretty sure I made every mistake possible in learning to hunt with my Sears and Roebuck Ted Williams 12 gauge. The best advice I could give is to be patient and listen to the experienced hunters. Be smart enough to sort out all this advice and don't beat yourself up over your mistakes. You're gonna make them. We all realize, of course, that we would never have listened to most of this advise. We knew it all back then....
  7. Staying pretty well out of the wind in the elevated blind. The temperature is falling fast and not much daylight remains. Come on deer!
  8. I saw quite a few fence skewered deer along the Wadsworth land in Geneseo back in the '80's and '90's. They eventually cut the spikes off (at least along the part next to the school) and that ended that.
  9. 14 degrees this morning in 8H. Thought for sure there would be a good deal of movement, but not near me.... Afternoon sit is 35 and sunny. Not expecting much movement but then again, what do I know?
  10. Lots of tracks.... from last night. Hoping the cold gets them moving a bit earlier.
  11. My best to date. Taken in the pouring rain on the second day of the 2011 gun season. He was trailing four doe, one of ran straight to me after I dropped the buck at 75 yards. Dropped the doe right at the base of my stand. Definitely a memorable day.
  12. Moving into the late gun season, the deer are obviously skittish. Areas of pine provide good cover for moving deer. I like to ground sit along pines overlooking a gully. Find good cover or make a ground blind where you can see the gully and pines. Good luck.
  13. Well, I've got meat for the freezer. First two deer that I've seen since bow season. Nothing big but really tasty!

Celebrating the end of the deer drought with a tasty 12 Gates West Coast Style IPA. Took two doe in ten minutes this afternoon. Great meat for the freezer
  15. I hunt in 8H and I have had almost zero tick activity. I know they are around but seemingly not where I'm hunting so much. That said, I travel to Honduras to work in indigenous villages and the ticks are horrendous! We spray all our clothing and bedding with permethrin. Works very well. Don't spray it directly on your skin, just your clothing. Wet it and let dry. Good luck and keep checking.
  16. The sun has come out and the breeze is down, here's hoping for a little good fortune...

    Beer

Enjoying CB's Bonobo IPA while feeling sorry for myself. Just about every friend that hunts my land has taken a deer here and I haven't even seen one since gun began.... sigh. Good thing there's good beer.
  18. My buddy just missed at ten yards this morning. I'm pretty sure that we will remind him of that.... forever!
  19. An inch of snow on the ground this morning but not much left of it now. Sure glad I enjoyed bow season cause gun season has been a bust for me. Haven't seen a deer in five days of hunting. Ah, well! I'm still breathing and loving life.
  20. Quiet day in 8H. Not a shot all day. The breeze is out of the South and the sun has peeked out, warming things up and melting the little snow cover that we had.

    Beer

I picked it up at Wegmans in Geneseo.
  22. Built this just for days like Saturday is supposed to be. I've done all day sits in heavy rain (even shot my best buck ever in a downpour) but getting soft in my older days.

    Beer

Well, bow season is in the books. Seven year streak is over. Time to transition to the rifle, but first a little Thursday night football and a new beer. Peak Winter IPA.
