    So, on my way out to my evening sit I found a crossbow bolt about 75 yards from my house. No blood or hair at all. Considering that my property lines are at least 250 yards in either direction, I’m thinking that I have a trespasser. Pisses me off cause I have a large group of guys who lease all the land around me and warn me every year to stay off of their lease. Not to mention that it’s not crossbow season. I try to get along but don’t step back when you try to push in on me and mine. Could be an interesting season.

    Surprisingly quiet in 8H. Last night they were all over the place but tonight.... chirp, chirp. Not much time left but still hopeful.

    A little late getting out today. Bumped 5 on my walk in. Get in my stand and there’s a doe out in the beans off of my land staring at me! Hoping they’ll be back around soon.

    It’s always a learning experience. In my time I’ve probably made every mistake possible. I practice and practice but mistakes still happen. It’s all good as long as it’s a clean miss. This one definitely was. Watched (and found) the arrow sail over him right in line with the vitals but high. All part of why it’s called hunting, not killing.

    Did you guys know that I have a peep site on my bow? Do you know that you should look thru the peep when aiming at that heavy 8 pointer that's standing broadside at 18 yards? I guess that I didn't know that either... sailed it a foot over his back! Good news is that he never had a clue that I was there. Rookie mistake. 44 years of hunting and still making rookie mistakes.

    Well, after a beer on the deck, my wife and I headed to our newly opened local brewery, Rising Storm. Great beers and a nice local atmosphere. This was their pale ale. Very tasty.

    Well, before splitting all that firewood I decided I needed a new wood shed to put it in. Today’s project is all done but the tin roof and gravel floor. Time for a beer. Brewed my own hoppy pale ale and legged it a few days ago so I’m gonna pour that and head for the deck.

    On and off drizzle in 8 H. Sure feels good to be sitting in a ladder stand with the bow at the ready. Sunset at 7:12 so the movement should be beginning any time now. Good luck and safe hunting to all!

    Agreed. Tim does great work and will really custom butcher for you. I took a Russian Boar from Tennessee and was very happy with his work. Venison atomic slim Jim sticks are great.

    A new brewery opened up about three miles from home tonite. Nice selection of beers but my favorite was a NEIPA. HaZy, hoppy and a good citrus tang. This place is dangerously close.

    Sorry to hear of all the health problems you’ve had. All I can add is that I hope your able to spend some quiet time in the woods this year. It was very healing for me when I had some health problems just to go and sit in a stand. Sitting and thinking. Sitting and just relaxing.

    A good day. Worked on the log pile and played golf with my wife and friends. Not to mention the Voodoo Ranger Juicy Hazy IPA. Things are looking up.

    Definitely not on the cheaper side but I love the Bradley digital smoker. Roomy enough for four full racks of ribs or a 20 lb turkey. Easy to use, you have to check every three hrs or so to add water. I just did a 15 lb brisket and it turned out great.

    Congratulations on having raised two daughters that are interested in the outdoors! Certainly not common any more. Have you considered getting lifetime licenses for them? Much cheaper in the long run and a lot less hassle.

    Having a Singlecut Cold Fire DIPA. 8.7% ABV and 126 IBU. Strong and a real strong hop bite. Helps take the edge off while contemplating the fact that the school tax bill arrived the same day my wife got laid off. Oh, well. At least there’s beer...

    Extra ratchet straps near the platform and along the midpoint of the ladder serve to reinforce the most stable type of stand you can have.

    Having a New England ipa at my favorite little brewery. Noble Shepherd in Honeoye. Great beer and a very friendly atmosphere.
