  1. Anyone else out in the mud this morning? I have a lot of standing water inside the hub blind. Should get interesting once the sun pokes out and the skeeters get moving.
  2. I was out yesterday, and between rain on Sunday and the humidity the trees I was sitting under were dripping on me like it was pouring rain. It was warm, but once my pants got soaked it didn't feel so warm. I bailed at around 8:30. My pack is still damp. We had to help my FIL built a shed yesterday and it completely wrecked my back and knees, so this heat wave won't bother me much as I'm out of the running anyway.
  3. My condolences on the loss of your father @Just Lucky
  4. Let's go. Good luck to my fellow deer hunters out here this morning.
  5. Once again you prove you won't stand behind your convictions. You spout off all the time on we need to take a stand against them chipping away at our 2A right, but you're OK paying extreme fees jacked up by store owners to take advantage of these laws. I swear, you don't read what you type at all. Practice that crap you preach or stay off the soap box man! I won't be buying my ammo in NY any more because I will not bow to the tyranny and I certainly won't be paying an inflated fee to someone who's already getting paid to do their job.
  6. Anyone trying to jack up prices and gouge is the enemy on anything! You crack me up man! If I try to sell you something that cost $2.50 for $30 who's fault is it that I put that price on the item? C'mon man! Maybe not the enemy directly, but if they were our friends they would charge what they are supposed to charge and not take advantage of this situation to make a huge profit by jacking the price up over 1000%.
  7. Yeah, they can all suck a fat one too! I'm not paying anyone $15 or more for something that cost $2.50. All they have to do is type a few things on a computer taking less then two minutes. Wait until for some stupid reason someone fails the check and are told they have to pay a 25-30% restocking fee like with firearms.
  8. Put 6 arrows through the compound and two bolts through the crossbow. Everything is where it was last April when I shot either last.
  9. I plan to make special trips to buy most ammo, and have already made a few. I'll especially be doing that for all my AR ammo. Until....... You wait and see, with NYSP in charge of the checks you can bet the qualifications are going to be altered for all firearms. You have to remember, that guy in charge of the NYSP is the guy who helped Cuomo sneak the Safe Act in and is also responsible for helping push the ammo background check and semi auto rifle permits though. So don't be fooled for a minute into thinking anything will get easier for us. I give it a couple years and we are going to have to have training and permits for all firearms, most likely including muzzle loaders. I can't express how much I despise the people who voted her into office and the people who voted jackass Joe in as well.
  10. Ah, it was great to stop by and see the old gang again. The more things change..................... For old times sake:
  11. I dropped $160 hunting turkey last May. That was 26 days out. Gas was steady at $3.70. Now it's $4.15 going into the deer season and that's three months. Can't wait to see how much I spend deer hunting.
  12. Nope, I think north is the best place. A place where just seeing a deer is an accomplishment. Besides, there's no access to that WMA. West is no shooting guns now and east is still being blocked by the NYSTA.
  13. Congrats on the new lever gun! Must be something in the air, I picked up a new rifle as well last weekend. Not vintage but wood and blued for a change.
  14. I vote the ADK's for deer hunting. Don't even have to go that far north, I'd bet even Benson would prove a suitable place. I want in on the flint and steel fire challenge!
  15. Cool picture and encounter. You don't see them often anymore. I haven't seen one in a lot of years.
  16. I ended with 20 days hunted and had plenty of action this year over the past 6. heard a lot more birds, got eyes on 4 I called in but would not get close enough for a shot. Yesterday culminated in a tom shock gobbling from a twig I stepped on and then playing back and forth for about 5 minutes until he went silent. Three hours later he showed up silent where I knew he would, the other side of the field 180 yards away. I got up and tried to cut him off to no avail. I saw plenty of deer, called in a couple foxes and a coyote. Called in a turtle (not really, but he made a good partner for one morning). I'll take a season like this and tag soup over sitting in a chair staring at an electronic. Hunting is the most fun thing to be frustrated over.
  17. Not everyone ran away, some of us had stopped posting much here before the new forum was even created. Something to consider, and I've said this on the other forum as well: Stop all the hen pecking. This silly forum war is like those movies and TV shows with all the old ladies sitting around the hair salon with those things on their head worrying about and gossiping about the shop across the road. It's not making either site look good. The bottom line is if you don't care what's up "over there" then stop going over there (said that "over there" about ripping on "here" too ). It's pretty petty. Let it go people, just let it go! Go outside and do something worthy of posting here and maybe people will reply. The hunting posts bottomed out when the other forum started, something else to think about.. << Lightbulb Meme>>
  18. Didn't want to end the season on an odd number so I'm out here for the final day. Not expecting any action but you know what they say about the couch..
  19. This is my 19th morning out here, and today is a wrap for my season. Don't think I'll sit for more than a couple of hours. Had a few birds come in but not closer than 70 yards. Seen a bunch of deer, a turtle hunted one morning with me. Stare down with a coyote one morning.........
  20. To pause and give a moment of silence for all those who served and gave their life for this country.
  21. Noone else turkey hunting around here? Got a couple of decoys on sale last week. Third time out seeing what the fuss is about. Nothing magical happening here.
