  1. Another 20 and packing it up. Tomorrow up north still hunting then back down here Sunday. I wanted 20 hunts before Monday but going to be shy a couple, at 16 with this morning. Next week starts a series of procedures to drain a cyst from my pancreas.
  2. Way to get it done. Just heard what sounded like a giant tree rat behind me. Open the back window a little to peek out and a spike was back there. No way to shoot even if peeling the velcro didn't spook him. Backside view from blind.
  3. I either tuck my mask under my glasses or keep it pulled under my chin. After the walk in my glasses don't fog up because they are acclimated to the temps.
  4. Not as much as the SZ. Your profile says you hunt the Adirondacks. Guess you actually don't? I love that I have less chance up there, it's actually what keeps me going back.
  5. Had a rough time getting up when the alarm went off, but here I sit arm guard and release strapped on.
  6. He hunts the ADK's differently then I do. I don't hunt beaches with volleyball nets. The deer numbers are lower due to not as much AG up there. You should try hunting up there, from the posts I've read from you, I think you'd probably enjoy it. There are some big deer up there, and many areas don't see the pressure the SZ has for public land.
  7. Dude, I travel/traveled this state a lot more than you have or probably ever will. I'd fathom a guess as close as you have ever come to being up north is maybe Lake George, but I doubt you've ever been that far north. I've been to CNY, WNY, but prefer the Dacks over any of it. I used to ice fish Cooperstown lake, hunt/fish/camp up around Ausable, and fished Lake Erie all before you were a twinkle in your dads eye. I haven't had the chances to go out in the western states to hunt or fish, but I have been around NY a wee little bit. I just don't go downstate if I can help it, nothing down there for a guy like me. The beer is a standing joke, has been for many years with you and I. Drink camel piss for all I care.
  8. They tell you not to drink the water in Mexico, and beer is made from a water base. Need I say anymore?
  9. Thank you for clarification. That's why I won't use mechanical's, too many moving parts when there's already enough moving parts on the hunting implement.
  10. You moved from NYC to Westchester (same thing), then to CT. Lotta skinny jeans and man buns in those areas.
  11. Most of the people on here hunt the SZ, and don't actually keep up with when the NZ openers are. I plan to be out for the bow opener up north next year, as well as the early ML opener. Over all, there are 6 openers for NY.
  12. What was the quality issue? The heads I'm looking at aren't mechanical, as I said, they are fixed. I looked again, and the price is actually $30 for 6 with the Montecs being $35 for three.
  13. Regular season for the NZ opened last Saturday, early ML was the 15th. I missed the ML opener by a few days because of a wedding, but was able to be up there to hunt Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. Then Saturday and Sunday with the rifle.
  14. Good to know. I was thinking 100GR, so I could swap the heads between my vert bow and the crossbow. Have to see if the BH's I wanted to try come in a 125GR.
  15. I'm not looking to go the cheapest, but I'm not looking to buy anything in the $79 for three range. I was looking at some G5 knockoffs at $40 for 6, and they have a slightly larger cutting width than the G5's. I wanted to try them with my vert bow this year, but things didn't play out well.
  16. Neighbor came up to the cabin for the weekend and informed me the crossbow is now mine. Now I have to get it out of the living room, so I need to pick up a case to be able to hang it. Is there a huge difference in fixed broad heads for the bolts? Can I use just any broadhead or what? I looked a bit on the information slow lane, and it seems that for tips it doesn't really matter. But I figured I ask here where we have a few who use these things. The bolts and tips he loaned me he wants back after the season, so I'll have to buy those items. Looking at 20" Carbon Express Pile Drivers for bolts, seem to be a solid choice without making my wallet cry.
  17. 52* when the alarm went off. 71* for a high today. No, thanks. Might head out to swap a sim card, but that's about it. Tomorrow back in the low 50's for a high and far more like hunting weather. Good luck to anyone going out, don't forget the little battery operated electric fan.
  18. Then I "passed" on 8 deer during my trip up north. One was broadside pooping in a backyard.
  19. Packing it up. Wraps up 5 days of hunting this area of the Dacks.
  20. Okay, so 7 is supposed to be lucky. So wouldn't 14 be twice the luck?
  21. Hat or vest. I usually wear both but yesterday and today it was just a hat. Today is the ball cap because I'm facing east and it helps keep the sun out of my eyes.
  22. They know man. If they are on the list of edibles they make themselves scarce. If they know they are safe they will taunt you from the tree you're in or by.
  23. That was a fun 10 minutes. Heard a pack of coyotes light up. Sounded like 50 yards out, usually meaning 150 or so with the thinner air and sound traveling different. Nope. They ran past me at about 70 yards. I counted 5 for sure but think 6 or 7.
  24. Barred owl, crows and...... actually hearing turkeys.
