  1. My hunting partners daughter, is making me some ice fishing mittens. When done, I'll post some pictures.
  2. Congratulations on the purchase! That's awesome John! They are not cheap, but the aluminum signs, tacked to treated plywood, works and lasts the best for us. The the tyvek ones, plastered on high travel areas are great too. But we redo those every year as to keep them new looking, to give the impression to others, we do mean POSTED! We even put out a few security cameras in use signs too.
  3. Congratulations! This what it's all about! Her smile says it all. Great job by Daughter and Dad! A beautiful, lifelong memory was made this morning.
  4. Saw four bucks early in the day. A real close call with one of my shooter bucks, but I made a rookie mistake. He should be hanging in the barn tonight. After that, did some still hunting around the big swamp until 2:30 or so. Could not finish out the day. The monster inside me won today. I think my season is done at this point. Surgery on Tuesday. Gave it all I had, but have nothing more left to give. Need to build up strength for Tuesday's adventure. No pity party here! I'll be back better than ever!
  5. Bottom picture fifth one down from the top. For some reason that on stands out above the rest to me. I do agree with phade. Whichever one you choose, the finished bow will be epic!!!
  6. Yes, first kill with it for me. Thanks my friend.
  7. Anyone who shoots an animal and refuses to get it out. Then wears tighty whities in the woods. Should have his license AND man card revoked!
  8. Update. We put her on the scale today, 39lbs! Definitely the biggest female we've ever got by far.
  9. Congratulations! Way to go! Nice job!
  10. Both teams will run the table for their remaining games, and go through as wild cards! That's my prediction. But good thing I'm not a betting man.......lol
  11. Panthers and the Bills! Yup, you heard it here first folks!
  12. 270 at 30 yards. Messed up the right shoulder pretty good. Just positioned her for a tasteful photo. Thanks everyone! We have a fairly good population of bobcats on the farm property. And we usually get one by chance, while deer hunting, every couple years or so. We are fortunate to see them in the wild often enough. But rarely shoot one unless we have a plan for the pelt and a close sure shot. Have never got one while calling though. That would be really cool, but maybe this year? They are awesome and beautiful animals. My hunting partners daughter asks us every year, for a bobcat or cotote pelt. She does her own tanning and makes stuff from them. This cat will be a pair of ice fishing mittens for me, and possibly her dad too.
  13. Unless you implicitly trust the other person with a deer in between you, driving deer can get sketchy real fast. I don't trust most people that much. Some people just get tunnel vision when they see a deer. That is when safety and caution can be forgotten. It's all fun and games until someone gets hurt.
  14. Was watching a doe group, when they became alarmed and took off up the hill. Couple minutes later this gal showed up, sneaking down the edge of the swamp. My buddies daughter will make some mittens with the pelt. They are quite common around here. Didn't weigh her but she's one of the biggest females we've ever taken.
  15. Congratulations Matt! Awesome buck! Way to go my friend!
  16. The extra effort could make all the difference.
  17. I'm a 4-H hunter too. This can be a tough area to hunt with tons of pressure. Congratulations on a nice buck!
  18. At this point, set up where you have the best visibility, with the wind in your face a must. Sit under a large tree, or a blowdown, to break up your outline if possible. From that vantage point you may see where the deer are moving. So you can adjust and move accordingly, without bumping the deer out, or tipping off your presence. I'd start out at first or last light, given only two hours to hunt. Good luck with your new spot! Hoping it pays off for ya!
  19. Hoping it's all good news from here on! Continue to feel better, and I hope ya get out with that muzzle loader real soon too!
  20. I've known John Jenenney, for 20 years or so and he was my Deer Search mentor. I can attest to the 243 being the #1 caliber for being the most popular for lost deer. Been on many of them myself, though not near the number John has. He once told me, it should not be legal to use a 243 on deer, after what he's seen over the years. The 7mm-08 or 270 is a much better option IMO. That said, the 243 has killed countless deer. Just much less room for error.
  21. Overwhelmingly tired today. Just can't seem to get going. Only have to the 28th to hunt. So I better find some motivation fast!
  22. Hope you feel better real soon! Take care. Keeping you in my thoughts and prayers.
  23. Welcome. Bet a new hunting area will be much more enjoyable. Sometimes people suck!
  24. Good deal! Congrats to the successful hunters!
