Up and getting ready! Cant wait to see what the day brings!
-
Got here and moog picked me up to take a walk around the area we will be hunting. Wow is there a ton of fresh buck sign! Scrape after scrape and all within the last day or so with not a leaf in them. Some were clearly only hours old. Should be a great day to be in the woods, weather we get a deer or not! Moog has been the most gracious host. And has a beautiful family! I was treated to a top notch steak dinner, cooked by his lovely wife Ana. We all had great conversation and I felt very at home and welcome. And a great time talking fishing with Joel, what a great kid! Just tonight, was well worth the trip! Moog is good people. So happy to finally meet up with him. Everything has been awesome so far. The icing on the cake would be to have one of the guys, get one of those beautiful bucks roaming this awesome property. Better get to bed. Got a big day tomorrow. Thanks Brian! Oh yeah....he's cooking us breakfast in the morning too. I feel like one of those fansy dancy TV hunters.....lol will do live from the stand in the morning. Best of luck to all heading out!

Wow!!! This is getting more and more awesome by the hour! This is no doubt something I'll remember for all my days! Drivers eastbound tomorrow better have their shades on, cause my smile will be blindingl! Getting to meet some of the guys is the icing on the cake. Thanks so much moog, and everyone! This is going to be an epic weekend!

What an awesome way to pay it forward! Some kid will get a special gift, that will mean so much to them, thanks to your kindness. Way to go chef! You just banked a bunch of good mojo! Best of luck to you this season sir.

This time tomorrow, I'll be heading out to Webster from the Capital District, for a weekend of fun and hunting! Got an invitation from my buddy moog5050, who I've been wanting to meet for some time. Will also get to meet phade, who's hunting skills and knowledge, I've admired, since coming to this forum! Not sure who else will be there, as I know some others, are close by too. moog is already being such a gracious host, and I haven't even arrived yet! Looking forward to the laughs and good times as much as the hunting itself! Though I'm not looking to shoot anything myself, unless one of those big WNY bucks, decides to stop in front of me for a chip shot. I am 'really' hoping that I can be there, to share in the celebration, of one of those guy's putting something on the ground! That would be amazing! This is the first time hunting out of town for me in decades, so just looking to soak it all in! Success for this trip will be measured in smiles, handshakes and good company, more than the deer killed. So even before driving the first mile, I'm certain this will be a successful hunting trip! Hope the weather holds for us!

She is as tough as she is beautiful! Little bit of Mom and Dad there! Been nicked a few times, and whacked good once, with the Deerslayer 2, 12 g. Trying to rest a shot, against a large tree. Fits in nicely though, with all my other scars, so it's not even noticeable.

Is it a NY deer? If so what part of the state ? A true monarch, no matter where he came from!

Welcome Coffee Boy! So glad you are sitting in with us now! It is really great to have members here that are somewhat new to hunting! As you will have a fresh prospective and new ideas that us old salts may learn from, and find refreshing! So we learn from each other, that is one of the coolest things of joining a forum like this! Got some awesome people here, that are always willing to share. We may not always agree but we are a tight group! Wish you the best of luck in all your hunting and outdoor adventures! Just pull up a seat and join in anytime!

This is my second year using EverCalm. I've seen many times deer crossing my trail that did not alert. Just sometimes put their head down, take a sniff, calmly flick their tail and move on. Here is a buck I killed seconds after this trail cam pic was taken. With his nose ten inches away from where I applied Ever Calm on the way to my blind 20 yards away. And a hot doe only yards away too. Guess that says it all.

Nice off hand at 100! Gotta love a pump action 35 for still hunting!

Is a video game, a rerun of Wheel Of Fortune?

Thanks! Gotta do that now! It's a pain now the way it is. You just saved me buying a new quiver!

Out There - Rebel Darling's Journal
grampy replied to Rebel Darling's topic in Member Hunting Journals
So cool when dreams become reality. You'll see what I mean this Friday. You got this my friend. You are more than good enough to pull it off and make it happen! Good luck and best mojo coming your way from here! Nice to know I'm not the only one who dreams of hunting, while at work!!! -
They do look deadly! Hoping to see how good they work, this weekend!!!

Leftover DMP's are available Wednesday Nov 1st reminder
grampy replied to turkeyfeathers's topic in Deer Hunting
Do they just randomly pick, and send them to the hunters. Or will you need to request them? I know once, I was sent a very hard to get 4-H DMP, after I was denied when I purchased my licence. I did the grampy happy dance, after opening that envelope! -
I think you have a good set up where you are. Why not just cut some branches, and bungy or tie them on the back side of the tree, to break up your outline a bit more. Break up the outline and sit still as possible and I think you will be just fine! Good luck! I just did that to a ladder stand we moved a few weeks ago, so as not to be sky lined. Will likely hunt that stand opening morning of firearms season.

I'll hit a few trees with a swipe, in my last 100 yards, every time, going in. And have some on my boots, entering the woods where I will be hunting. I won't make fantastic claims that Ever Calm will work every time on every deer. But from what I have observed, it does work pretty darn good, most of the time. If it will get a deer to stop, for a shot, that would other wise spook or go to alert, it's a good thing. IMO. Now if a bunch of hunters start to use Ever Calm in the same area, I would think deer will eventually catch on, and start to associate it with humans. Nothing is ever fool proof. And there really are no short cuts to good woodsmanship. Again, JMO.

Wow! What a nice first buck Larry! For the Ever Calm, I think I'll put some in a canister with a scent wick, to leave open near my blind. Along with some on the soles of my boots for the walk in.

Tried just about everything over many years, but gave everything up a few years ago. Until I tried Ever Calm last year. It is by far the best working scent product I've used. Seen at least a half dozen instances, where it has worked, when deer should have spooked and didn't.
