That can be a huge disappointment for sure. As we all look forward to the opener all year. But I have huge confidence in your hunting abilities to make it happen when you do get out there! You will be OK buddy. You will make it happen on "YOUR" opening day!

My buddy needed to replace a scope last year about this time. He went to zero it in at our shale pit range on the farm. As he was finishing, he saw movement, and just along the shale pit he saw a decent buck moving along the edge! Just target your gun. It will all be fine by the next day. Stomping around their bedding area would have a much worse effect. So get some quality trigger time. Have the confidence, that when that deer steps out opening morning, your shot will be perfect!

I've only killed two deer with a rifle. 7mm-08 140gr. Federal Premium Nosler BTs. Both died instantly. So I too will follow this thread, to see what the more experienced rifle hunters have to say.

One of the best traits a person can have is the ability to be honest with themselves. For if you cannot be honest with yourself, you can never be truly honest with others. You my friend, have found the key to happiness. Shoot what you like. Like what you shoot. I think you just shot your Greatest Trophy! The deer of a lifetime. A Heartfelt Congratulations! Asked Doc to give me until after Thanksgiving to get some hunting done before surgery. This will be the 4th time under the knife this year for me. Not a one of us are ever guaranteed our futures. So live each day to the fullest. Hunt like each deer will be you last. Love your loved ones like there us no tomorrow. Thank God for the blessings in our lives. Live simply. 2017 has been a tough one. Already looking forward to a much better 2018!!! I'm certain it will be!

Thanks my friend. Got him with my 17 year old Mathews HQ32. After shoulder surgery in May, I've worked really hard to bow hunt this year. Still so very painful to shoot. So this may be my last bow deer. Proved to myself I could do it "one more time". Probably crossbow now, from this point for me. Me and the old bow are retiring. My grandson will now fill my bowhunter boots. But hey.....ya never know.......

Just got home. Buck down! Shot him at 4:30. Saw him run out and stop after the shot. Found blood followed it for 50 yards, didn't like what I saw and pulled out to give him more time. Went back and found him! Went about 200 yards. This has been a very trying year for me. With some medical issues. My season will end on the 28th of this month. I was so happy to get this deer! Hunt like every deer could be your last. This is a trophy to me. 3 year old 4 point.

Got in before light, saw a shooter buck 80 yards away, at 8am, nose to the ground, then he was gone. Nothing after that. Changed location around 1, sat to dark, nadda. Be back out in the morning. Things can change in an instant!

Heading out to a good deer funnel with lots of doe. Hopefully one of the boys will be hanging with them. Gonna be wet on and off. But going just the same.

Work in a public school district. Running the printing and graphic arts dept. for 7 schools. Also work with special education students in a school to work program. After spending 25+ years in commercial shops, this is by far the most rewarding employment I've ever had. Been here 14 years, will go another 6 to retirement with a NYS teachers pension. I'm not rich, but bills are paid. And time off is ample. I'm 60.

We just pulled some cards a day or so ago, not far from you, that showed activity slowed down in the last few days. What bucks we did see on cam were mostly still at night.
