  1. Yea, I weigh every deer. A BIG doe is 120+, my average does are 100-110, typical 1.5 buck is around 130, average 2.5yr old buck for me is about 150-160. My 4.5yr old buck last year went 190. I'm usually within 5-8 lbs when I guess now after weighing so many. Sent from my moto g(6) using Tapatalk
  2. It was a button buck!? What do you expect?? That would put him in the 80lb range which is likely. Start weighing your deer, you might be surprised. Sent from my moto g(6) using Tapatalk
  3. Add another point to team weak! Sent from my moto g(6) using Tapatalk
  4. 2 white hot pellets, 240gr jacketed hollow point. Nothing special but it did a number on her! Sent from my moto g(6) using Tapatalk
  5. I was a little bummed when I saw it! But grateful nonetheless. Sent from my moto g(6) using Tapatalk
  6. Still hunted her, 75 yds heart shot Sent from my moto g(6) using Tapatalk
  7. Well as I'm sure for many it was a messed up year for me. I got laid off in late July, plant had awful financials so we all got kicked. I had all of archery season off, filled my buck tag the first night, completely unexpectedly. Which was awesome but also a bit sad as I could literally hunt every day. I killed a doe on the 7th, then got pretty unmotivated and focused on some fishing, chores, being lazy etc... Applied to some jobs as it seemed that getting called back wasn't looking promising after months off (they were trying to secure additional investor capital). Got lucky in November and got hired into a lead manufacturing position with the prospect of taking a supervisor position when one became available. Really close to home so that was cool. I missed the first 10 days of gun season for an out of state family visit then started my orientation 2 days after I returned. I only got out about 4 times with gun, I've only seen one deer in those 4 hunts, a small buck I passed up on a drive because I wasn't positive if there was a driver not far behind the buck or not. Bad timing was the name of the game for me in those few hunts, I'd hunt all morning in one spot and come home and get a picture of a nice buck or does after I left, or chose a different stand only to get pictures from a neighboring stand. So all in all I did not hunt much at all between my new job and family obligations. Our lease did not have as much big buck activity as the previous year, not sure why? I would've killed a great wide 9pt the first week of November had I not already killed my opener buck, as he came by my stand 4 mornings in a row. I'm hoping that my year is turning around as of today, I had a meeting this morning before I left work and was offered a supervisor position, for an additional $25k a year. So hopefully all of the bad luck on losing my job was a blessing in disguise after all. Here's to hoping that next year is more stable and I can get back in the woods and water like usual. I'm buying a nice boat in the spring also, hopefully everyone else can find some light at the end of the tunnel of 2020 as I have. Some great deer taken again by you guys as usual, we'll do it all again next year, God willing! Sent from my moto g(6) using Tapatalk
  8. Interesting. I've come to always throw trout back as I haven't tasted one I liked, other than I keep 3 lake salmon a year to smoke it's more fun catching them to me. I live pretty close to Oneida lake so I guess walleyes and perch are far easier on the taste buds to me. Sent from my moto g(6) using Tapatalk
  9. You like to eat landlocks? Smoking them? Sent from my moto g(6) using Tapatalk
  10. Looks like a domestic goose of some sort to me. Sent from my moto g(6) using Tapatalk
  11. If you were closer I'd let you take one of mine, I've got a couple of 3" guns. As long as the birds are decoying well and your throwing a good pattern you should do alright, worst case scenario. Sent from my moto g(6) using Tapatalk
  12. Is 2 3/4" preferable? No. Can it de done? Yes. I'd recommend trying a few different chokes out beforehand and seeing what will give you your best pattern at decoy range, since you won't have a lot of shot to spare. You don't have any buddies that have a 3" gun you can borrow? Sent from my moto g(6) using Tapatalk
  13. I've got an all white deer on our property in 8F also. Haven't had him on camera since October so hopefully he's still alive... Sent from my moto g(6) using Tapatalk
  14. Well I hunted all morning, had 5 big gobblers come in to 30 yds, never spotted me either which was surprising! Sat for 1.5 hrs then walked around a bunch of areas, didn't see a single track fresher than 6+ hours old. A bunch of fox and yote tracks though. Stopped at my other property on the way home and did a quick walk looking for fresh tracks also as I've had 4-5 bucks chasing does around this spot the last 2 nights, looks like they all head over onto the neighbors so I couldn't follow any further. Might go out on Tuesday for the last day. Nice morning in the fresh snow at least! And some of you need Santa to bring you a better attitude! Sent from my moto g(6) using Tapatalk
  15. So let me get this straight? You wouldn't take a shot at a buck at 57yds, but you'll shoot at at red fox frontal at 33... So the vitals on a facing red fox are probably 3" wide, while a broadside buck at 57yds is probably 10"+. The math isn't adding up for me. Your condemning us for taking risky or "bad" shots, after you yourself made a bad shot? So now us forum guys just "fling arrows and hope for the best?" What made you so bitter all of a sudden? People lose and wound animals every day, it sucks, I feel awful for the critters. But it happens, some can be avoided, some not. Maybe there's pieces of the story i didn't get, and at first I thought you were poking fun with the 1% thing, now I'm not so sure? Sent from my moto g(6) using Tapatalk
  16. That deer just decided he'd rather be in your garage than out in that crap! Sent from my moto g(6) using Tapatalk
  17. I was comparing that an entire red fox is roughly the size of a deers kill zone, and you essentially missed the fox so throwing stones for someone elses poor shot is not justified because you chose to shoot at something smaller and also did not hit where you were aiming... Sent from my moto g(6) using Tapatalk
  18. But the end result was the same. You missed. So actually... You could've been 8" left or right on a fox and still got blood, and fox are really easy to kill so I think it's fair to say you were just as far off as some of the other mishaps?? But whatever makes your mathematics add up for you! Plus how is one in with the top 1% when said person hasn't killed a deer all season!? Sent from my moto g(6) using Tapatalk
  19. Sounds to me like you've educated these deer to your hunting spots too often. They'd be coming to the field before dark if pressure is low. Try changing up where you sit, play the wind, rethink access routes and wait for bad weather (snow and or cold) will often put deer in fields earlier than normal. Or, since it's the last week anyways, try having a buddy push them to you? Or wind depending, get into their bedding super early and try to catch them coming back in or milling around during daylight. My .02... Sent from my moto g(6) using Tapatalk
  20. How did you manage to find the slug!? Sent from my moto g(6) using Tapatalk
  21. Figures. I sat this spot all morning, saw nothing. If this deer had a middle hoof he'd be holding it up... Sent from my moto g(6) using Tapatalk
  22. I couldn't believe it when I got there before light and there were 16 cars in the lot already. We sat for the first hour and a half of light and only heard one shot (at a deer) and 1,000 duck hunter shots. Tracks everywhere, but I'm sure by now those deer are glued to the marsh during light. Sent from my moto g(6) using Tapatalk
  23. Howlands? There were 15 of us there today for 2 drives, my first time out there. I couldn't believe the buck sign everywhere! I could've shot a buck on the first drive as a walker but I wasn't positive where the walker on my left was as I lost sight of him. The buck posed every way possible at 40 yds but not being 100% of where my buddy was I let him sneak back through the drive. Then the 2 guys behind us shot him haha. It's a huge place, I'll be back for sure next archery season. Sent from my moto g(6) using Tapatalk
  24. As awesome and gorgeous as bobcats are I don't think I'd ever shoot one, personally. Other than getting a mount or hide out of the deal I have no real reason to kill one I guess. I'd love to see them in the woods though! Sent from my moto g(6) using Tapatalk
