Can you guide on Public in NY? I know not all states allow it.
  2. I learned on a recurve. I wasn't allowed to shoot a compound until I could hit a 2 liter soda bottle 4 of 5 times from 10-20 yards from a treestand time after time. I moved to compounds just because of ease/modern availability and the fact I could practice less (not because I want to, but because life is too busy). I could see myself going back to recurve at some point, but likely after I've gotten much older and just want to walk out back to enjoy the woods and poke a hole in any deer, let alone a trophy. Never had interest in the older smoke poles. The current season structure in NY doesn't make it enjoyable for me. When I lived in VA the season was before regular firearms and just about the time I was going to buy one, I ended up relocating back north.

These were clearly geared toward outfitters to monitor herd movements. THink about it....where's the elk? Now you know.

While they were several thousand dollars, the ones at Harrisburg were nowhere near 10k. 3-5k.

There are already companies that sell drones (those copters) for hunting purposes. We went through a pitch at the Harrisburg show this year. Not cheap and seemingly more useful for western hunting, although it could be used here in many situations. The units were not cheap, several thousand dollars. But, the footage captured is amazing. The elk reactions were pretty comical - confused but not bothered.
  6. Sounds like an older generation saying they walked uphill barefoot in a snowstorm to get to school story to me. Hunting has evolved and will continue to do so. But, your last statement just seems odd. If bowhunting really were that easy, the standards for inclusion of the "accepted" respective clubs monitoring their activity (B&C/P&Y) would be reversed. If gunhunting were actually harder, 125" would make minimum book and vice versa for bowhunting (B&C standards). These two organizations, while not perfect, generally reflect the masses and trends of bucks killed by hunters. So, I'm not so sure I'd say gunhunting is harder by any stretch.

    Happy bday Thomass.
  8. I've got an opening on my team perfect for a recent college grad or someone looking to get into a solid company here in Rochester. Not particularly challenging office/computer work, but a great foot in the door to one of the more stable companies in the area. PM me is you know of someone.
  9. What xbow you buying belo? Remember, you said you hunt with one.
  10. Most people that don't like are the ones who are confused and get frustrated about getting big bucks on the wall. QDMA is a great group, but there is a subset that has the mindset of doing everything and not killing the bucks they believe would follow. Either mismatched expectations, or the fact they simply don't have the hunter skill to do so. This was a bigger issue about 3-4 years ago within QDMA and now you see them pumping more about hunting technique into their message and re-set expectations. It was nice to see they recognized it as a potential problem.
  11. I prefer the smaller basic stands (not the skinny ladders though). The are cheap and manuverable much more than a full platform. It is a bit different to get used to. I also HATE rests on stands meant for bow hunting. They are a pain and limit shots. Now, as the season goes on, I certainly prefer the larger platforms with bigger boots and bulkier clothing. But I also don't need to be as manuverable either as I usually have the bang stick.
  12. I missed a bird three seasons ago at mere feet. I never patterned my gun for feet. The pattern was the size of a ping pong ball at that distance when I did. It was also ever so slightly off to one side, explaining why that bird laughed at me.
  13. Ignorance is bliss sometimes. It goes both directions. You can cater to your crowd and hunters can cater to their crowd. Problem solved.
  14. He doesn't even have room in his truck for deer now. He has this fancy pull out storage system. Neat no doubt. But we all know where the deer is going. My truck.
  15. I have never had good luck with Kent. Ever. Don't know why, but they just patterned like poo.
  16. I can't say I am a big fan of the narrow ladder sections now being used. They are not as easy to even the weight when hanging and are more apt to cant. Plus, they become annoying in winter with heaver bulky boots.
  17. If my way of life were threatened too, I'd act just like FSW. Doesn't make it right, but it is what it is. I just wish FSW and everyone would lay off the off-color comments and ad hominum attacks in this thread so we can get back to the topic.
  18. Dick's sells a model slightly above the basic - called the deluxe. These have full platforms going back to the tree.
  19. I doubt he eats much of that pig. Can't imagine a hog of that age being table fare. Most are buried.
  20. PFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFt. My truck needs new ball joints or control arm again. For like the third time. Might be because I drive it like I stole it. Might also be because Moog is always sitting shotgun and it just so happens its the right side that's going.
  21. Ok, knew there were some options out there! Thanks!
  22. Quick question - I want to do a screenshare with someone. I can do it at work via Lync but it's not a work thing. No idea how I could do that on my own computer. Obviously don't want to spend money on it. Any options?
