What's worse, that or the pro xbow people accepting it and celebrating inclusion? Sort of like requesting sportsman thank Cuomo. Seems like a pattern developing. Before you lob anything, I own a xbow. I've also taken my FIL to Ohio to hunt with his xbow to get him his first deer in 40 years. I'm not some outright anti. I just think the whole methodology of sucking up to people who have posioned our well when it comes to our rights is just the absolute wrong way to do something - even at the cost of expanded opportunities for one niche or segment. It left a bad taste in my mouth and makes me feel like the people involved in the process are the kind of people that anti xbow people believe make up the xbow crowd - willing to sell their soul for the sake of a want. Does the DEC set the training course details or the legislature? I'm not personally aware of who makes that call.

They fade pretty quickly in direct sunlight. That is what is being replaced.

I can't find the thread where someone posted the link to the nice signs to buy for posting. It was a thread only a month or two ago. Need to get some signs. Can anyone remember it or post the website to buy the signs? Thanks.

Potter here does use antlers to age bucks - actually I think he goes by base size and measurements of the pedicles to one another or the eye sockets - I forget the specifics. It's actually pretty unique and itsn't talked about much in management/QDMA circles. If he sees this and posts, he can explain it better. But there's alot of things to look for, many of which you noted.

Although I understand why we have a May 1 opener, these kinds of encounters should be in season to us. Oh well.

That poor guys stand was in shambles, lol.

Ha, no salt. Just realize even when you do everything right, there are still going to be times when the "bad guy" wins. Such is life being a remote land owner or leaser!
-
Even when you do everything right though, sometimes the bad guy still gets the buck. In the above case, the guy shot this right off the property line:

I want to commend you on a great cam set. You got that buck walking away, which is what I prefer. Not easy to do. I say a 2.5 or 3.5 in that pic. Hard to tell with the angle, but in any case, likely a target this fall.

I love my 400 sportsman. I got a steal on it and I plan on using it to plot a bit with my groundhog max and eventually do some spraying. Enough for me since I'll only be working a 1/3 acre plot and maybe one or two other small ones. Hondas never really scream food plotting to me. Great farm and ranch machines, though.

Can you get permission to walk that property? Not hunt, but walk? I'd see if that was possible and bust that flock up before they go to roost. They will cross roads, they do it all the time. Can you pull them away from the hens? different story

Helping the world just gave me a whole new context after this thread.

Can I sell a shoulder mount legally in New York?

OK, I have to admit, it'd spruce up WNYBH's truck more. Just because he's uglier, though. Culver runs a close third. -
No problem. If you have a cam with good quality video, I'd suggest using that in areas where bachelor groups roam in July/August. Video delay is a bit longer for every cam as compared to pic trigger speed, but usually groups are slow moving at that time of year. The video set at 10-15 seconds on a one minute delay will give you better info (again if the video is HD quality). You get a better look at the rack and can make up age guesses better. I do video for July /August on a few cams, then move over to pics. Videos in season are on scrapes or small plots, areas where they will stay there for a while or be moving slowly. Trails, unless I can aim down the trail far, I opt for pics.

tired of just having a job? get a career with benifits!
phade replied to G-Man's topic in NY Area Job Board
I have plenty of jobs for new college grads at a $2-3B a year company. No joke. Rochester. Sales, ops, marketing, etc. Plenty. Problem I find, most college grads can't talk themselves out of a paper bag. I am finding 1 in 5 or 1 in 10 can actually interview. Case in point, I interviewed 10 people for a post on my team. 9 of 10 are graduating next month. Two candidates were solid. No shock to me when those were the only two to send follow-up/thank you emails. The other 8....I feel bad for them personally. They didn't get the money value out of college and that was apparent in the interviews. -
The P150 and imo more the P150i are game changers, but are still "specialty" cams that fit a niche rather than an all-purpose cam. Plus, the curvature of the plastic housing can distort or give a fuzz to the pics. Which, to me I find acceptable as I want usable info. The other issue is the fact moving parts are involved more on these cams and they are generally larger. Plus, you need to add in the fact that these cams are powered by C batteries and the eat ALOT of power. I'm really against anything other than AA powered cams at this point. Not sure why they went this route. This cam is great for field edges and very very open hardwoods. It is not in my opinion a cam designed for trails. While a single shot mode is possible, it's built more for the field edge/food plot. It's also somewhat sizable - i know it is crazy to think that, but cams are the size of a soda can now, and in some cases, smaller. I definitely want to get a P150i at some point for a particular food plot.

We call them women where I come from. LOL.

I killed my 2006 buck on Nov. 11th and had chasing on Nov 4, 6, 7, and 10.

Its Russia and for-profit deer farmers. I don't think they care by FSWs answer about "worrying about % of this or that" in his above post. This is no longer huntingny, its FSW's deer farming forum. What a platform.

You had better have some fast growth to outcompete the weeds planting this early.
