  1. Sat till 945 with my son. Had a nice 2.5yr old buck come through. Then bumped a unknown gender deer on the way out.
  2. Lol, he is the nicest dog ive ever been around. He goes off leash through the woods with my kids all summer. Loves people, gets along with dogs he gets to know. Im sure if my wife, kids or myself were in a situation with a "bad guy" he wouldnt hesitate to protect us.
  3. Got the "perfect" tree today. Decorations tomorrow.
  4. We will be getting ours Saturday most likely. Been going to the same place for 7 years now. Koller christmas tree farm in the alden/darien area. Cut your own, they have a fire and hot chocolate for the kids. Good time every year.
  5. Lighter bullets dont need as much twist to stabilize. Wereas a heavier, generally longer bullet needs more twist to ensure it is stable at distance. If you shoot a heavy bullet through a barrel with a slow twist you can expect to get tumbling or sporadic flight, the same can be said for a light bullet thats spun to much.
  6. Looks like it needs a front end alignment... very costly on foriegn mowers.
  7. Ive had the sitka for 8-9 years now. The seam on 1 pocket on the jacket has started to separate. Very warm and comfortable.
  8. Firstlite will be my purchases after i wear out my sitka... or i may stick with sitka.
  9. Look at local land for sale and go off of that. If its land locked it should be cheaper than a lot with road access.
  10. LOVE Thanksgiving turkey, and taters, and stuffing, sweet potatoes, green beans, cranberry sauce, and differant breads. Then the pies...o the pies, pumpkin, pecan, and apple... Ill hunt the morning, not 100% sure whos coming out. Most likely, Dad, brother and brother in law.
  11. The little mout attaches to my rifles rail. That slides into the tripod mount. Tripod is good for 30lbs. It was a cheaper setup than alot of tripod gun mounts out there.
  12. I use red Wicked Lights. Head lamp for scanning and gun light for shooting. They are great lights, i can pick eyes up at 350+ yards. A thermal scope would be best but cant afford one at this time.
  13. The deer could care less actually. Ive had them walk within 30 yards of the call while it was making coyote sounds. I have gotten into fields with no animals in it and after calling for 20 minutes deer come out. Getting into yote hunting more i have learned deer are not as afraid of coyotes like i always thought they were.
  14. Let my dog out back around 7pm, yotes started barking off the back of my field on my neighbors. I got geared up and went out into my field. Did some barks and howls on a diaphragm call. Got a response from across the street and further away on my side. Put bay bee cottontail on the foxpro. About 1 min in eyes show up in the corner of my field. Watch them and they are coming into my deer carcass bait piles. Its a fox... to early in the set to shoot him, so i put male yote howls on and scare him away. Nothing else comes in but im still getting responses across the street. So i pack up the truck and head over there. Grab the gun, tripod, chair, and call. Start trying to walk quietly. This corn field was just finished getting cut friday. The stalks were left about 3ft tall. Not easy slipping in silently. I am about 50 yards from were i want to set up and theres eyes about 100 yards ahead of me...thats a deer. More to my left and 200 yards out, two sets of eyes. I stop and put the call and tripod down. Bring the gun up and the eyes are now moving...shit! Its a pair of yotes. Now my rifle weighs around 14lbs, thats 1 of the reasons it usually sits on a tripod. Trying to follow them and they stop on the backside of a rise. I can just see the eyes of one of them. I make some pup distress on the diaphragm call hoping to get them up on the rise. Unfortunately they continue behind it and out of sight. Well that sucks, but i set the call out, set the tripod up so i can stand. Call a little and now back across the street the yotes are barking at me...i bark and howl back. This goes on for about 20 minutes, you could tell by the sound they would get close to the road, but then go back. Called it after a half hour and headed home. Was a fun night, gotta figure out a quieter way to get in that field.
  15. Didnt accidentally send a fmj bullet through her did ya?
  16. I ask because i cant find 147gr hornady 30 cal bullets. Loaded or just the projectile.
  17. Dont write them down, but i do have a list going. Expanding 2 plots, clearing out a young growth beech tree area, goin to drop some bigger trees in that area too to open up the canopy. Theres a retention pond i guees you would call it off the back of my field. It dries up it the warm months, id like to try and dig it out some and figure out how to seal it up to hold water better.
