Congrats ! No bigger accomplishment, in my opinion, then hiking into BIG woods with everything on your back and harvesting a truly wild animal. Anyone can sit on a the edge of a rural field or block of scrub and wait for deer. Takes a different breed of hunter to go deep into the the forest after them. A 'trophy' is to be measured by the effort, sweat, and the journey traveled to attain your harvest and not neccessarily how big a rack he has. Hats off to you !

Awesome. That is what it is about......family, friends, shared hunting experiences.

If it was shot in Cayuga Heights, that is perhaps a good reason why it might be on the down low. This area is highly residential and there is a very good chance that it was shot close to houses, private yards, or off the side of the road......

Some drives with archery equipment...

Nicely done! Keep us posted when the DVD gets released.

Similar to a shot, if the deer haven't seen you, you can usually stop running deer with a short quick yell. They usually won't continue until they have identified what made the noise. They won't run into potential danger, and by yelling you can confuse them. This once again only usually works if the deer haven't already identified you.

Are you serious Doc? As an innocent bystander, I think you took this thread down the tubes. Start a new topic if you want to debate. This was a topic of people commenting on photos of a beautiful animal and your dragged it down. In the few months i have been a member of this forum and have seen some of your postings, it seemed clear to me that you went fishing with your post with the intent of a knee jerk reaction from the QDM crowd. And I quote: Really Doc? I don't agree with much of NYantlers philosophy, but I enjoy his viewpoints and information that he brings to this forum. Now you want to chastise him for his response to your pretty dumb (sorry it was) post in the middle of an unrelated topic under the guise that 'I was just trying to understand and ask a simple question.' Poppy cock! You fished for a reaction and you got one!

Nice! Can't think of a more enjoyable way of harvesting a deer than still hunting/tracking in the snow. That's really hunting and not just shooting deer after it walks into a field. Congrats.

Great story . I have to agree, not impossible in captivity but in the wild? While tooth aging is a good indicator, not every deer is going to have the same wear on its teeth based on diet. A deer predominately browsing on buds, twigs and acorns is going to have much more wear than one with a diet of softer leafy vegetation etc. Also a buck on a good dental program may have stronger teeth that don't wear as much... ;D Anyone know what the deer weighed. This is another indicator that might help get an idea of age. I think most 1.5 yr old bucks dress out at 100-120lbs, 2,5 yr olds 130-150lbs, 3.5 yr olds. 160-180 lbs. and it usually takes a 4.5 to 5.5 yr old to break 200 lbs. Once again this can vary depending on diet and range.... Others thought on the age of this deer? I have to admit that is the one thing that bothered me about the story. Hate to be a doubting Thomas....

Other than tormenting myself trying to decide which stand location to sit at, yeah i guess so. Also had a nightmare last night that I didn't set my alarm and woke up around mid-morning on opening day. Talk about waking up in panic...

Anyone have a Lyman Mustang Breakaway 209 Magnum ? Seems like a nice looking shorter pole with a more traditional wood stock. Just wondering if anybody had any feedback on them,,, ,

It was shot near me in the town of Parma. Rough green score in the 170's. Weighed 199 lbs. dressed. She shot it this past saturday. These details and others are on the Creekwood archery website. I will try and get the link posted. BTW if you didn't recognize the name, she was a former Olympic speed skater that won gold a few winter Olympics ago....

Anyone heading to their Hunting area this weekend? (Halloween Weekend)
troutman replied to burmjohn's topic in Bow Hunting
I have to, Halloween is my lucky day. Have harvested 3 bucks on past Halloweens -
Caught my personal best this past summer on Keuka Lake while jigging for lakers in 100ft. of water! The fish hit maybe about 40 ft. down so he was suspended, but definitely caught me by surprise. Just under 22"
