All I can say is we have a lot of deer here in 3M there kinda like Rabbits everywhere you look, I am a local crop hay and corn Farmer and we farm 1700 acres in Warwick There is no shortage of food hence the orchards, farm lands and open mountains available for them to brows not to mention the winters here as they are still eating good IE round bales and standing corn believe it or not we took 60 does off one farm of about 250 acres the last season the next weekend there was 39 more in one field it just has to be the food supply On a lighter note I have my 4 DMP and hope to have the availability to fill them the first morning

dont forget the water if you tie one up they need water to wash down the corn and apples LOL!! -
yes your right and as i said humans make poor judgements when excited, but also this post started out asking for help then turned to a lesson of laws its a little to late for legalities to help I think he will make the needed corrections and has no doubt learned where not to look for help!!
-
I like that nice touch
-
I would hope he went out and looked under every blow down and rock but I do still think it was a case of buck fever that got him into this to start with you know your first buck hanging out of your comfortable range so you wait him out is it right or legal to shoot after sunset no but people make decisions that are not always right or ethical when excited.
-
I dont think he has ever pleaded ignorance lack of experience, poor judgement of shooting times and probably a good case of buck fever. Has lead up to a new hunter no doubt wishing he didn't ask for help.Had he held back on the time of the shot I wonder how many fellow hunters would still give him this much of a rashing about where he hit the deer. anyway the bottom line is you have a giving right to do all you can do to locate the downed animal.

Punt Gun For Waterfowl In The Market Gunning Era
Critter4321 replied to Mr VJP's topic in Guns and Rifles and Discussions
i guess once you fired it the boat would be back on shore from the recoil -
your 100% correct I was just saying there some that want to chastise the guy just because he may of made a poor decision about his shot, if you read the first post everyone was telling him just to let it lie down and die it then turned sour on his ability's as a hunter You have a up most obligation to expire all possibility in finding a wounded or down deer regardless of size or sex of animal
-
I have never seen a group of fellow hunters so fast to throw stones in glass houses, he said he is new to the sport and yes he may are may not of made a poor decision but on the other hand he was only asking for advice what he should do. Not to be criticized for what he has done I have no doubt there or others posting here that have done the same or worse thru there many years of hunting
-
Did you by chance happen to smell your arrow a stomach hit some time has a foul smell, that would if nothing else tell you where your hit was.as everyone else has already said go home and let it lie down start tomorrow walking in circles and looking under dead falls or near water

WOW what a great job

nuisance permits and posted property
Critter4321 replied to Critter4321's topic in General Chit Chat
that sounds about right, probably not the case though i do know some orchard owners that get permits and do not allow anyone to hunt there property for any reason. -
nuisance permits and posted property
Critter4321 replied to Critter4321's topic in General Chit Chat
I did not at any point mean to implement the DEC as letting someone post there property what my statement meant was why do they give out NP's when the so called privet club only wants to shoot the bucks if your sole interest is trophy's then so be it as far i'm concerned it does no harm to me But why not make it so the deer they shoot with the permits get donated I'm not in any why against hunting clubs or deer management i just hate to see the waste NYS should be putting permit deer to use feeding those in need -
Now this might sound strange to you hunters up north!! I'm in DMU 3M I would really like to know how the DEC hands out nuisance permits to people who post there property and only allow certain hunters to hunt it. the DEC lets people post there property for the sole purpose of shooting trophy deer then turns and lets the same people shot doe's out of season and let them rot! yes they leave them to rot sometimes gut shooting them just to get them off the fields and die Now before you get mad at me understand I'm a farmer and a hunter too its just unbelievable to me that my fellow farmers and orchard owners can let someone (a privet club) post there property then get nuisance permits to thin the herd it makes no sense if theirs that many deer here and believe me there is their like rabbits! why not make it so you at least have to use the deer IE donate it to a food pantry or self consumption letting them rot or burying them is nothing but a waste.

yup sorry but posted signs are just to protect your insurance co and limit there liability
-
You might want to do some checking on your spike traps we all know its upsetting to have ATV's and trespassers but your posted signs will not cover you if they get hurt on your property by a device of your making. its like the old saying locks only keep the honest people out!!
