That and switch to small diameter braid with mono leader, use fluorocarbon in clear water.

Are you handy? Remove the old decking and put on some composite for $500 more then never worry about staining again. How big is your deck? After having it done 2 times you could have paid for someone to put the composite on and the decking.

They have their issues, parts are hard to come by I would be looking into either SeaDoo, Yamaha, or Kawasaki. The older 2 stroke Yamaha had issues with their oil lines coming off while running and burning down the motor. Lots of Yammie guys just pre-mixed and got rid of the oil pump. Stay away from the Kawasaki Direct Injection system of the early 2000s I have a 2000 Kawasaki DI and have had nothing but problems. Granted it is fast up to 52mph but is finicky and the DI computer has a tendency to overheat if not monitored closely ($500+ to have rebuilt).

SB 4739 - Establishes the yearling buck protection program
chas0218 replied to Rebel Darling's topic in Deer Hunting
Couldn't agree more, once I saw what my property had to offer and the deer that it can produce I was hooked. I killed my biggest buck by pure luck, never saw him before I killed him never knew he was even in the woods. My father, grandfather, myself all made a deal to only shoot deer with 10 points or larger. There is nothing like seeing and hearing how the deer interact with one another when there is a solid age structure. @stoneam2006 FWIW I start to shake like a leaf if a fawn walks out, breathing gets all jumpy, lump in the throat stuff. So whether the rack is a new state record or a button buck I get excited. If I ever loose that sensation I won't be hunting anymore. I get just as excited for fishing. You must get really pissed when you go fishing and DEC tells you what fish you can and can't keep not to mention how many. -
No i understand I didn't think you were I was putting that out there for those that doubt me. I guess that is the misconception is trophy hunters only go for the head gear and waste the meat. I hunt for meat but in the process try to take the biggest buck and most mature animal on our property. So if you wanted to classify me as a trophy hunter you could but my main reason for hunting is for the meat. I haven't had tag soup in many years but not every year I take a buck worth hanging on the wall.

Really was restraint on my part. I had him dead to rights as a 2.5 year old directly under my stand during bow but was around 100", the year later he was bigger but still not what I wanted to take but didn't get close enough for a bow shot but could have been taken during gun by myself and my father. This last season same deal 40 yards with a gun in an open field weekend after thanksgiving. No BS I have really passed on deer that others would have shot the year prior this being 1. I think it was 2014 that I had shot a doe day before and was basically done for the season didn't need anymore meat but went hunting with my father in law because no one else wanted too. I was only in stand to enjoy that time of year I just like being in the woods. He had saw a nice 9 point not sure how big but nice enough he wanted to shoot it. I didn't think too much of it but he told me if I saw him and he was headed towards the state land shoot him if he keeps coming let him live. I told him no problem unfortunately he winded my father in law about 40 yards down the ridge and was ready to head towards the state land. I had this deer in front of me for 20 minutes making scraps and doing what bucks do but that was a 137" 9 point that I was going to pass because I didn't need anymore meat. Call me a liar, only thing you have to go by is my word. But there really are people out there that do this. We practice AR's not because we want big racks but we like to see deer. This season alone we had 13 different bucks of all ages running around the property. The rut was incredible to see how they act with an actually pecking order.
-
Hmmm, we passed the same deer 3 years in a row practicing ANTLER RESTRICTIONS on our own property. I'm not sure but you are proving the point that antler restrictions would work if implemented just from your photos.....
-
Okay so once again, you re-purpose the antlers into furniture, decor, whatever you want. But they don't mean anything to you. They obviously mean something to you whether it is enjoyment of a mount like some or making art with them you enjoy the antlers. This is kind of my point no matter how much people say they "Dont' care about the bone" or "Who cares about that stuff you can't eat" they still care by doing something with it one way or another. Is there any other part of a deer you re-purpose bone wise?

SB 4739 - Establishes the yearling buck protection program

He is saying that he hunts where AR is already in place in NY. If you go to the DEC website they have data and information showing what you want to know. http://www.dec.ny.gov/outdoor/93857.html -
SB 4739 - Establishes the yearling buck protection program
chas0218 replied to Rebel Darling's topic in Deer Hunting
No that is what he said. Personally I would like to see AR in the designated areas for 5 years, if it doesn't work pull it and replace with 1 buck rule for 5 years. If that doesn't work try both if that doesn't work then NY is screwed just shoot everything and don't worry about deer hunting anymore. -
See my father in law just had his deer aged at 4 1/2 151" 9 point in 8N. Either way all of the deer you showed fall under the AR and could have been taken and were they were all 2 1/2 or older I'm not sure what your point is? Let me add we all thought this deer was 5 1/2 or 6 1/2 based on the size of the body and the rack. FWIW the biologistics said it could have been 5 1/2 the jaw fell in between the 2 ages. Might have been a late drop as a fawn, no one really knows for sure. We had him on camera 3 years in a row bigger each year.

Sorry I am at work can only respond when I have some free time. But here is my thing you kept the antlers if they mean nothing then why wouldn't you have just thrown them out? Come on the antlers do mean something to you as you kept them, how many doe skulls have you kept that you shot?
-
Guessing your area is Naples 8N I would say 4.5 years old.
-
PM them, no sense in cluttering the thread.
-
What did they age? Can't tell from only the antlers. Looking at them and in my area all but 1 of those would be 2.5 year old.
-
I won't flame you, I shot a 130" 10 point 2 years ago. On that particular property we have a 10 point rule and it must be 100" or bigger. Out of all the deer I have saw and shot on that property the 10 points are 130" or larger. I won't use the term genes but a lot of them show similar characteristics. My neighbor practices the same thing so between us we cover about 2 sq. miles of land.
-
If they are irrelevant how do you tell how old a buck is? I don't want to get into the argument that antlers don't tell the age, but other than that and a few other attributes you can't tell without the antlers.
-
There are 27 WMU with the 3 Point rule and 29 WMU with the 4 point rule. Have you looked at the map in which those WMU lay? Majority are in the areas where the terrian is NOT farm land. It is hilly/mountainous terrain. Some of the 6 point WMU's have had AR for for as long as I can remember. OOOoooohhhh so I see where you are coming from, you're pissed that other people will get more chances at deer than you? Or that you feel left out because people hunt differently than you and you're jealous of their lifestyle of hunting. I have a question, what implements do you use to hunt? If you use anything other than a homemade bow, arrows, and flint arrowheads you sir are a hypocrite. And I know you trap have saw all your success and you do a great but I see modern traps being used all store bought so again you are using modern conveniences like so many other people do and once again because they hunt differently you say they aren't hunters. You're statements are ludicrous and have no weight. Do you own land and/or hunt in the effected areas under the AR? There isn't pleasing everyone but from the data DEC collected in 2006 then again last year they had the same results for hunter satisfaction. 41% so the majority of the ones polled were not satisfied. If you didn't take the time to take the poll then I guess you shouldn't complain. It's like voting for an elected official some complain about the results but didn't get out there and vote. The area I talked about having the mature bucks is outside of the AR but the other areas where I hunt is inside the AR restrictions and I could see all hunters (the ones that like big bucks and the ones that don't)
-
No i hunt for meat and instead of me taking 2 yearling and a doe to help fill my freezer i take 2 mature deer leaving an extra rubbing around to get bigger. Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk

Ok so how many have you saw? I have been hunting for 16 years I have saw only one 1.5 year old that was an exemption to the rule he was an 8 point. I'm sorry but for you to make a statement that assumes there are so many 1.5 year old deer out there that are 8 points and bigger then you shouldn't be concerned about the AR's if that is your stance. You like so many on the other thread about this are using no factual data. If that is the case show me I am wrong put up some game cam photos of huge number of 8 point 1.5 year olds. I have saw 1 photo so far from WNY none from you so if you want to make this claim put up or shut up. I think if looking at the big picture how many of those deer will not be around 1 or 2 years from now from what I have saw on my own property and others I hunt in 2 years we had 4 8 points over 100" and another big 8 I passed 3 times this year over 130". I think if someone has the drive to be a hunter and doesn't give up after 1 season they will be successful the next.

SB 4739 - Establishes the yearling buck protection program
chas0218 replied to Rebel Darling's topic in Deer Hunting
You can get a guaranteed doe tag if you own property I think it is 60 or more acres. what about those areas that don't have doe tags you're just asking to decimate the population in those areas. 8W where I hunt DMP probability for 1st choice is low. You're very lucky if you get a DMP, and would hate to see what would happen to the herd around the area. -

Yes those 7, 8, or 9 points could be 1.5, 2.5, or 3.5 it isn't a perfect system but like you said there are exceptions, but yearling are also the button bucks and bucks with antlers less than 3" harvested with a DMP. -

Those are still considered yearling deer, granted their system isn't perfect. There will always be exceptions to a rule, like mentioned the amount of exceptions is minimal and if you wanted to shoot that yearling 8 or 6 that is your choice. -

Using a dmp with male deer meaning a button buck or a buck with 3" or less of an antler. -
Yeah but I was referring to where the antler restrictions are supposed to take place. Yeah 5.5 buck, I can't comment on how old the doe I have shot were only to say they weren't yearlings. I haven't ever sent out the doe's jaws.
