Yeah sad part is it's an option still, I think with how cheap LED's can be had and being able to wire into the running lights it should be standard for trucks I mean they have cargo lighting in SUV's and Minivans trucks get the short end of the stick.
-
Personally I would rather have more light behind me than in front. My current truck has plenty of light out front with the low high and fogs on. What I really need is some light in the bed other than my bed light to see what is going

Your headlights almost look non-existent in the one picture.
-
How do they factor them in if they aren't all reported? I mean no different than not reporting DMP's but nuisance permits allow for harvesting of a lot more animals and if they aren't all reported then it could make a huge difference in herd numbers.
-
Haha alright I just figured I would throw that out there. I use my pockets in my jack to keep my hands warm with hot hands. It also helps keep my sides warm.
-
I was referring to the hand warmer style without a heartbeat. I still think that much movement would be too much with deer coming in. I wouldn't think you would need it for bow season being that it is warmer out still.
-
I too would love a nice muff around my waist while hunting to keep me warm but I think that would involve a little too much movement when deer are coming in.

I don't have 5000 acres of state land as a whole near me but lots of 500+ acres with next to no pressure. I have seen 5 or 6 vehicles at a 1000 acre section and on one 300 acre section I have seen 1 or 2 vehicles. I have no idea how many people that border state property hunt it but still can't be a whole lot.

Right beneath me, nothing like having a deer walk right in on you and be right under your stand. I love getting shots like those I aim for the middle of the spine right between the middle of the should blades. Usually if I hit the spine the drop and bleed out if I'm a little left or right I take out the lung and heart exiting the bottom of the chest cavity with instant blood to where the deer died. O and they will usually die within eye sight.

You beat me to it! I think it would be great to log into DEC from my stand and record in real time all they would need is a clicker option for bucks and one for doe. You could sit there and just hit the button. Even an app would be great if you don't have internet connection you could open the app once you get where you have signal or Wi-Fi it could automatically send info to DEC site. Allow for GPS positioning and bam they have a super accurate count of deer based on exact location.

Last year I sat in on webinar about the WMU's and how they want to change the borders so they are lumped into less but larger WMU's to allow for more accurate counts of deer herds. Not sure how making the WMU's larger would allow for that but I am thinking if they did this then it would either allow more chances for DMP's or screw others that usually get DMP's. I know that if there is a lot of nuisance permits given out the amount of DMP's are unchanged allowing for deer herds to be darn near wiped out. For example in the Middlesex area there was a farm that killed around 100 whitetails on nuisance permits one year this was around 15 years ago. The guy I talked to said he stopped counting after a while and it wasn't all that fun. He said he would shoot one and the rest would just stand there he would shoot another and so on. They donated what they were supposed to the rest got stacked in the hedgerows. The deer herd 6 years later was decimated we barely saw deer and my father-in-law was contemplating selling the property. Now about 10 years later he has shot some serious monsters with the doe ratio is close to 1:1 or even more bucks to doe. I'm not saying the nuisance permits was the key to 1:1 and I highly despise nuisance permits because of the amount of deer they don't need to report after killing. There is no way that DEC has any idea of how many deer are out there based on DMP's and their fudge factor numbers.

That makes sense if there is less browse. The less food the less deer so the less DMP. Honestly I'm not sure why DEC doesn't DEC selectively log state lands allowing for more browse or allow farmers to use it. The state land near me "Erwin State forest" had about 100 acres clear cut I mean gone except for tops. The loggers piled tops about 10' tall in piles some spots weren't piled just left where they were cut off. I saw a ton of deer in there during bow but majority I jumped as I came around the edges of large tops. Anyway why wouldn't they do that to allow for more browse to support bigger herds. I mean they don't need to clear cut but at least thin.

Wow this all escalated quickly, man we all need to get I the woods and blow off some steam. Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk

Yup 8W where we just bought land is PP req'd. I have seen a ton of doe on my property but no permit unless I have 50 acres or more or a pref. point. or more.

I don't want to come off as one of those guys that just fling arrows. I used to have a lot more time to practice and this year I wouldn't take a shot at 50 with the lack of practice I have had. I haven't shot at an animal at 50 yards with my bow since that buck 6 years ago. I actually haven't shot over 40 at an animal since then. I think the longest has been 36 yards in the last 6 years.

Counter sink bits.

Sure, you would know just as much as I would whether or not the deer was going to jump the string or act different than he did. Who knows maybe he did and my shot was low and I just so happened to hit him in the heart. There is always time to Monday morning quarterback things when it's done and over. Truth be told I screwed up more short range shots than ever a long range. Maybe it's because I don't take as many long range shots so there are less to screw up who knows but I'm willing to bet there are a few others out there like me that have done the same. One example above
-
I too like to get close but if an opportunity allows me to take a deer at further distances I don't want to pass it up. Granted if everything works out perfectly then I would take the shot. I wouldn't take a shot I know I can't make. I'm not being cocky just know my limitations.
-
Buck didn't doe did, doe was on edge because the buck was chasing her. If he did jump the string it would have been a double lung instead of a heart shot. Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk

I do like the idea of the sound though, A few times I have shot a deer and the arrow buried in high golden rod no way to see the light. Too bad they don't make beepers on the lighted nocks that have a 10 minute delay.
-
I shot a deer at 50 in an open field when he was after a hot doe the arrow seemed like it took an eternity to get there. The doe jumped the string but the buck just stood there like "what's your problem?".

Bow 2" group at 60 is my best so far this year. I haven't got in as much practice as I would like. Rifle less than 1" at 100 yards because I know the gun can do it I just need to do my part. Shotgun 3" at 100 yards. ML not sure haven't tried to group it.

Haha me too, Seems like the times I look I'm way off.

I have the clear plastic ones that glow red for my arrows. I don't feel like the other colors aren't as bright, only real way to tell is to buy them and put them out in a field and walk away from them until only on is seen.
