  1. Good to hear. I was hoping that if I plant in the spring it will establish enough to last the winter. I didn't think it would head out before winter but was thinking maybe it would be really early in the spring. My plan was to mow down the wheat that did go to head after it dried in hopes it re-seeds for the next year.
  2. One nice thing about the areas I am considering are pretty weed free because of the large maple trees that I am planning on dropping to give the plots some sun. So I won't need to spray and the soil is in great shape from all the decaying leaves vs pine trees.
  3. I have a ton of turkey sign on the property, I was thinking about planting cereal rye in a 4th plot just to leave as cereal rye for the turkey. At this point in time I am trying to concentrate on deer but the turkey have been roosting about 30 yards from the house and tearing up the ground for forage all over. I would imagine some of it is also deer activity.
  4. Yeah both plots would be annual. I bought 2 bags of the plot spike so I might make a 3rd 1/2 acre plot do one in the spring, and the other 2 in the fall like the bag says. Next year I will be able to plant 2 of them to prennial brassica and clover then maybe try other things in the 3rd until I find something that the deer really like.
  5. So thanks to @growalot I picked up some Plot spike food plot mix (description below) for $9/bag also grabbed a bag of Biologic Last bite for $9 all a pretty good price. Now both bags suggest planting in the fall the plot spike is mostly Oates but has forage rape, clover, and austrian winter peas, and the other is a clover brassica mix. Would it hurt to plant these in the spring when there is a little more moisture in the ground. The area I'm planting is on a hill and will be cleared of trees for the most part. I haven't decided if I'm going to make 2 smaller 1/2 acre plots or just one big 1 acre plot in the center of my 40 acres. I have never planted Oates in the spring so I don't know if there is any harm in doing so. Also would 2 plots be better than one larger one? The nearest ag field is about 1 mile away and I have some good bedding areas on my property that hold deer.
  6. Not sure if it is a superstition but I have decided to go against my gut feeling on more than 1 occasion and ended up missing my target buck. Almost could kick myself on numerous occasions.
  7. Actually I have 2, one is a .22 marlin glenfield 60 (known now as the model 60) this was given to me by my father and will be passed down to my son. The stock has saw some better days but still drives tacks with the 1000s of rounds I put through that thing as a kid. The other is my 870 express mag in 20 ga. my grandfather gave me for my 12th birthday. The following year I scrounged up all my x-mas money to buy a hastings slug barrel for it. 2 guns I will never part with and teach my son to shoot once he gets old enough. The other thing very sentimental isn't a gun but when I turned 13 my grandfather bought me my lifetime license and did the same for my son this past x-mas granted the kid is only 2 but for the the price they are now past 3 years old it's a no brainier.
  8. Same! I have 2 on my way home from work I can hit. It's worth a shot for this season. We will see what comes of it.
  9. Wow those main beams were longer than I thought. Either way nice buck! You don't see many bucks over 130" in NY and 100" on state land if you're lucky. Pretty unique rack most can only hope to shoot a mature deer like that. Congrats again.
  10. Only need to cycle the ABS motor if you replace the ABS motor or lines/master cylinder before the ABS motor. My 03 is the same way I think they used it up until the late model 07's.
  11. If you jack up all 4 corners of the truck and put her in gear let the tires start to roll then hit the brakes the ABS will cycle because those front tires aren't moving. I also had the 4wd in when I did this not sure if I needed it or not but it worked either way.
  12. Seafoam in the can works well for this, like mentioned it will usually set off the light. You can reset the light by disconnecting one of your battery terminals for 5 minutes if the CEL comes on normally it is just the service light. My little grocery getter Pontiac Vibe AWD has 216k on it she purrs like a kitten still. When was the last time plugs were replaced? I am betting they have to be pretty rough looking if they have 100k+ on them. I would also be running some sort of fuel system cleaner through the tank as well as doing the saw foam through the vacuum hose method or the spray into the intake. I would throw the cleaner in at around half tank for a higher concentration to work on those deposits a little better. Look at cleaning your Mass Air Flow sensor with a can of the cleaner. These are all things that can cause the truck to run differently because they are dirty.
  13. I went out once last year, this year I haven't even got my equipment down. Not worth risking it for some fish.
  14. Either that or big money in fines. I remember a few years ago a guy lost a sled in Sodus Bay he was paying per the day it was in there. Ended up somewhere around 10k I think a helicopter would be about 1/3 that.
  15. Went thru the ice on my sled before about waist deep, scary as hell even when I knew it wasn't real deep. The scariest part is the ice cold water against your skin. You start to shiver almost instantly. I went thru another time just walking while ice fishing I hit a soft spot in the ice. Luckily my sled was tied to me and when I fell I threw myself backwards and ended up with wet legs. I can't tell you how I didn't go all in on that one but thankful I didn't. Rest of the lake was 8" of ice.
  16. Think of the versatility! haha Give it a few years when it isn't a brand new technology they will come down just like Night Vision I remember when the Gen I were close to 3k for a nice scope. Now like you said 1k for something top of the line.
  17. Use again, I have one arrow that has shot 4 deer until this year when it got smoked going thru an animal and blasting a rock.
  18. They might have wanted some cold water practice. You can only practice a few months out of the year.
  19. I don't think he is 143 his main beams don't look longer than 20" and inside spread is about 17" but he has a nice amount of mass but short tines. I think you were very close with 136" gross. Here is a 137" 9 point not as much mass as yours but 24" main beams and 18.5" wide
  20. Don't worry about deductions its a 136" deer. Congrats.
  21. Going hunting with my college buddy that lives in Montana chasing an a Bull Elk, Big old Mulie, and/or Bear with the bow. Not really about the size of the game but the time we spend together in the field. Honestly if I didn't shoot anything I would still be happy. I haven't talked face to face with him since college about 7 years ago.
  22. Nightvision? You living in the 90s still? haha If you're going to drop the coin go thermal/flir.
  23. I think you're right at 2.5. Don't stone me but I think the 1st photo and 2nd photo are different deer. It might just be the picture but it looks like the 2nd picture is a different buck I know he has a big neck from the time of year but the nose/face looks slightly different. I think the one in the 2nd photo is only 1.5 year and you have a 2.5 year old buck on your hands. I think you have a good case of similar genes but that last photos says 2.5 based on his belly and how it goes back up around his pecker area. No FUPA going on like older mature bucks.
