Ok thanks, I'll look into them. How is the ease of loading after a couple shots does the barrel Lead up badly with plastic? I liked the power belts because after going to the range and shooting a couple I didn't have to clean the gun to get all the residue out. They flew pretty good not a real tight group though. My ML doesn't have a scope or anything just open sights. We used to do some pushes at the end of the season and I couldn't get used to close range moving shots.

Wow that's nuts. We bought where we did because of the lower taxes based on the houses. If you go 10 miles down our road towards surrounding larger towns (Corning, Hornby, Horseheads, Watkins) they jump drastically. There isn't a lot of money in Beaver Dams and housing shows it. Don't get me wrong there are nice houses but not many which keep my taxes lower. Our neighbors house looks like a run down hunting shack with a tarp over half the roof, walls leaning, roof dipping, pretty rough looking.

I'm just over the border in Chemung county out by Beaver Dams. We are currently doing an addition on our home to make it about 2800 sq.ft. on 40 acres and a run down 2 car garage. I really hope they don't hit me as hard, we'll have to sell the place if our taxes go up that far. You mind me asking which township you are? If I had to guess it would be Hornby, we looked at places over there and couldn't believe what the taxes were.

hmm seems like it's worth a try.

Nice shooting, What powder were you using in the ML? I have a Winchester apex magnum and have only used 777 and power belts. I have owned the gun since 2004 but never shot a deer with it. Looking to maybe change that this year. Our new property doesn't really have any long range shots so I'm thinking it's time to break out my old 20 gauge or the ML sad part is my rifle is cheaper to shoot than the shotgun with sabots.

Holy 12k in taxes? Is that 85 acres also waterfront? I look at taxes on land as depreciation like a car or boat you spend a set amount of money then yearly or quarterly or instantly is worth less. Real estate costs a set amount of money then taxes go up maybe not as fast as the value of the property goes up. It all really depends on the housing market, how much you paid for the property and how long you own it to make it an investment. Honestly real estate isn't a bad long term investment short term I know many people that loose money on real estate.

If it is your property in the off season just go out to areas you think are good and starting limbing every straight tree up to 20' then no more problems.
-
Do the best of both worlds, get tree climbing spikes for your boots, and a light hang on. Lighter than both and branches or not they aren't an issue. I bet it would be faster than both and lots less noise. Any noise you do have would sound like a porcupine tearing into a tree granted you don't clang the stand.

If you can swing it try to get 50 acres or more, Unfortunately I bought 40 which is great but it is in Pref. Point WMU so if I had 50 I could get the landowner DMP. I didn't realize that until after we bought the property/home and we aren't turning around and selling a house we just put 30k worth of renovations into. On a side note if there is a habitable structure some banks require a working septic, potable water, and permanent heat source(s) (wood stoves don't count).

I still have to hang tree stands and scout new spots. I have a couple places that have shown activity on cameras but definitely behind compared to previous seasons.

Cool thanks, Always looking to try them a different way. Love cooking in the crockpot easy to do. Have you ever put the rice in with it all in the beginning? I was wondering if it would cook it to make it similar to a jambalaya.

How long do you cook them? Throw it all together before work on low then eat for dinner that night?

The age requirements wouldn't let me, my kids are 2 and 3 months old. How about those parents that advocate for their kid to be on the higher level of a sport and they suck but because mom and dad threw a fit and the school doesn't want a law suit for some asinine reason so they are on the higher level? We actually had a coach get fired because they weren't playing a kid (not the only one) on the varsity level. Nothing in the scholastic sports or our district policies state every athlete must play on the varsity level but it didn't matter the coach still was fired. Sounds like every kid gets a trophy doesn't it? So what is the point of the youth season then to get them the turkey early before others are in the woods? That seems a lot like the now, now, now concept. Not sure how turkey hunting relates to grade levels in the school system? The example of your daughter is great. I'm sure she actually appreciates the things she has, she would be one of the few I have had in class that do. I see on a yearly basis at the end of the school year kids throw out brand new school supplies that I scrounge for the less fortunate the next year. I tell them to take them home for next year "My mom/dad will buy me new ones next year those are old." It's pretty damn sad. I will mention I work at a middle school 7th and 8th grade. It really doesn't change much in the high school the attitude stays the same me, me, me. and only the best for little Johnny or Jane. Hell my sister in law has that attitude and she is 21 and guess what mom and dad still pay for most her crap. Lets not mention the $15,000 car she was given and doesn't pay a dime for insurance/payment. Like I said before it's entitlement especially if they are just going out to kill something without taking any skills or knowledge away from it.

Must be because I was on my son's kindle. In all seriousness I should have double checked my gammar before posting.

For the most part I agree but I'm sorry I haven't saw a lot of turkey hunters at all this year on state property, actually I have saw 1 car parked at the state property this season that I drive past twice daily. Deer youth season you'll still have a bunch of bow hunters In the woods. It is making it easier, going after turkeys before they become trained to the call is much like opening weekend. I agree it does teach them those things you listed but it is a handout unless that youth kid has been out with you scouting, practicing shooting, hanging stands/setting blinds , ect. Taking a kid out just to shoot something in my book isn't showing them anything useful. Reminds me of the saying about a guy and a fish. Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk

The funny thing is you think I cared they hunted a week before me, I mentioned before I could careless if they shot all the turkey in the county or all the deer in the state. I said I worked in the school system and have 300 students a school year in my class I have some first hand experience. I have saw the lasting effects of entitlement and this is exactly where kids are heading with stuff like this. Granted not all of them but the majority. I take people hunting and fishing in hopes they get the big one. My son will have deer on his wall that will have adults envious, could I have shot that deer probably but why not let my kid? If these people taking kids out truly don't mind then why would they be burning a weekend? Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk

So why should we as adults give them the easy avenue. Working in the school system I see it non-stop. The worst thing you can do for most if not every youth is give them special treatment. I think too much of that happens nowadays. It gives these kids a sense of entitlement, one of the last things they need. I'm sorry but these same people advocating for youth seasons are the same ones that bitch about everyone gets a trophy and antler restrictions. My 2 sons can go out during regular season and kill a turkey or deer nothing comes easy in life. Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk

I find it funny how this person asks a simple question and has stated that he isn't against but people try to tear him up over a question. Personally why doesn't DEC just start the season on the first weekend of the month then it wouldn't be an issue with kids missing school or whatever. Like mentioned that parent that doesn't take his kid out hunting won't bother with youth season as it is. Personally I could careless who shoots what turkey and how big the beard or spurs are. What I find funny is all the people that trophy hunt a mangy bird but get their panties in a wad and verbally attack people that trophy hunt whitetails. Double standard?

Anyone heading out for the walleye opener this weekend? I'll be hitting Lake Ontario in hopes for some big ones. Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk

Anyone have that one stand that they hung but never seem to sit in? You know there is deer there and keep a camera nearby but never sit there? I have this one stand I hung a few years ago that I haven't sat in, my main reason is that I always seem to spook deer when going into it then never see any after. It isn't far from a house about 100 yards so it is a no gun stand but usually there are deer everywhere around it. I have stands on he perimeter of the area and see deer but that stand is just tough to get to without spooking deer. Come to think of it I have 2 stands like that one I have shot 2 wall hangers out of and is a swampy area on the property. I have another ladder stand not far that I saw some of the best rutting action in 4 or 5 years.

Does Deet work on ticks? I didn't think it worked on them that's why you need the permethrin for horses. If you have a sprayer take the time to pick up some permecetrin II it's a pesticide no license needed to buy and kills all those little critters, ticks, fleas, spiders, beetles, lots and lots of other little squirmys. Last I knew it did not effect bees so you won't harm the honey bees in the area. Here is a link to the stuff. We spray around our house and cottage 2 or 3 times a year, it kills on contact usually doesn't have a long residual effect in the rainy season. https://www.qcsupply.com/media/pdf/540195_Info.pdf

How was it?

Might have taken it a step further and added a fake head. It wouldn't take much to make your own with real feathers and a fake head. At 40 yards a big fan can hide the average easily. I'm not justifying the shooting but being that it looks real and being able to shoot 1/2 hour before and after sunrise might have played a role. At 40 yards and 1/2 hour before sunrise I have saw blobs in a field that ended up being chunks of plowed furrow.

Grandfather-in-law has the 210 horizon other than the chalky clear coat it is a nice sold boat. It handles lake onatrio waves nicely. Your wallet will be thanking that I/O versus running an old 2 stroke for trolling. I love trolling, the first weekend in May is usually when I splash down and check for gremlins that popped up during the winter.
