QDMA's 2019 Conservation Seed Program
goosifer replied to goosifer's topic in Land Management, Food Plots and QDM
I see. Yes, it would make more sense to submit the order forms to the nearest branch than the regional director. It's almost like the email was written to go to branch contacts and not the general members. -
QDMA's 2019 Conservation Seed Program
goosifer replied to goosifer's topic in Land Management, Food Plots and QDM
Noooooo. Given they need to hit minimum quantities to obtain the seeds, I don't think they'd want to limit it. Unless it's not being offered in all parts of the state? It could also be a way for them to get people to sign up, so they have access to the seeds. Hope I didn't do a bad thing by posting this. -
I hate to say this, but it looks kind of cute. Must be the eyes. I assume it's been dispatched, and you will be processing the pelt?

QDMA's 2019 Conservation Seed Program

So are any of these a good deal? I wish they would say how many pounds to plant per acre. How would you plant the corn? I've seen the "wheel" style planter, but no way is that useful for a large area. Can any of these be broadcast planted? -
QDMA's 2019 Conservation Seed Program
goosifer posted a topic in Land Management, Food Plots and QDM
Below is the text of an email I received today from QDMA: Happy new year, and I hope 2019 is starting off well for you. I’m writing to let you know about an exciting opportunity QDMA is providing to our members. We are pleased to offer a Conservation Seed Program to help get viable seed planted across the landscape to benefit whitetails, other wildlife species, and your hunting this fall. Through a national program we’re able to acquire out-of-date seed and provide it to you at extremely reduced prices. The germination rate will likely be less than 100 percent, but still very good relative to cost of the seed. It’s important to note the seed can’t be sold for profit, traded or bartered, it has to remain standing for wildlife use, and it can’t be fed directly to livestock or wildlife. QDMA piloted this program in Spring 2018 with excellent results. QDMA members can order corn, sorghum, soybeans and/or wheat. The corn is 90-110 day varieties and is not glyphosate resistant. The soybeans are group 1 beans and are glyphosate resistant. All species are $9 per 50 lbs. bag. To order, please complete this order form and email it to your QDMA Regional Director. We can only obtain this seed in bulk (400-800 bags per order), so it may not be available in all locations. All orders must be placed by January 23, and we will know at that time where we have enough orders to schedule delivery of the seed. Our Regional Directors will contact everyone who placed an order to confirm whether the seed will be delivered or whether there was not enough interest to reach the minimum order. Seed orders are typically delivered in March, and seed will be delivered to a central location for your area. Your Regional Director will contact you with the delivery date and location to pick up your seed. Non-QDMA members can take advantage of this opportunity by joining QDMA. Have a good day, and here’s to a great 2019. Respectfully, Kip Adams Director of Conservation [email protected] -
Happy Birthday, Cabin Fever!

woot.com had the 9-tray on sale for $155 back in December. It's $180 at Amazon right now. shape and diameter of jerky, water content, even starting temp, all factor into how long it will take to dry.
-
internal temp of 160. just stick an instant read thermometer into one of the jerky pieces when it looks like its getting done. That's the official guideline. I am sure a lot of folks don't go that far as it will probably look overdone. One tip for overdone crispy jerky. put it in a ziploc bag in the fridge for a day and the moisture content will even out. Usually the jerky will soften up to get back to chewy texture. If it was really overcooked, you can put in a small damp piece of paper towel in the bag.
-
Ehh, his coffee isn't that great to begin with . . . .

@Belo My thoughts on your jerky issues: For the 2.5" casings, how big is the "throat" of the stuffer? What if you don't screw on the stuffing tube and stuff straight from the throat? You can use a 3/4" stuffing tube into a 2.5" casing, you just need to go slow and avoid creating air pockets as much as possible. The extra water won't hurt the jerky, just will take a much longer time to dehydrate. Sounds like the oven jerky got overcooked. In general, the oven method is a "less gentle" way of dehydrating, and you risk cooking/crisping up the outside before you've removed all the moisture on the inside. Conversely, a food dehydrator does a more gentle and even job, but can take a long time if its underpowered (48 hours sounds too long to me). Why not try a combination of doing say 75 minutes in the open oven and then finish them off in the dehydrator overnight or so? Dirty a few more pans, but you'll get more control over the finished product.

So we're all invited to your birthday party on the correct date?

Happy birthday, Rob . . . !

Have a meal at Pappadeaux or Papasita's if you get the chance. They are regional restaurant chains with very good food. I went to Disney World once. My wife told the story on her blog years ago:

Enjoy your trip. Just think of Florida as southern Georgia, and things will make more sense. Actually, we settled on St. Augustine as it was one of the few cities on the Atlantic coast that had dog friendly beaches. It's a very dog-friendly town in general.
-
For several years my wife and I snowbirded in St. Augustine, FL. Last winter we stayed home in western NY. This winter we are semi-snowbirding. We will be gone for about 6 weeks. We have a 10 day cruise booked a couple weeks from now out of Fort Lauderdale (Panama canal, et al.) and then we are going to visit several cities on the gulf coast of FL, St. Augustine, and Savanna, GA, doing 4-5 days per city. With the passing of our dog in November, our schedules got a lot more flexible. I always have mixed feelings about being away for so long, but I can't complain. So, anyone else snowbirding or semi-snowbirding this winter?

Amen and godspeed.

Happy new year.

When I looked at the spypoint web page this morning, I noticed they had a deal going where you get a free long range cell antenna with the purchase of one of there cell cams. That could make a difference for you, if you care to check it out. Note: deal expires TODAY. https://www.spypoint.com/EN/promotions/
