  1. This was my typical brewing operation a few years back These are the hops we grow ourself
  2. I would consider myself very into home brewing. It took me a long time to get to the point I'm at now but I can make pretty consistent, really good beers at a price way below store shelves. Add up all the costs along the way however...I'm in pretty deep. The point when I started making really good beer was when I upgraded my burner to get wort boiling quicker, got a 35 gallon stainless steel kettle and went to complete all grain brewing. I buy hops by the pound directly from farmers to bring costs down and buy barley by the 55 pound sack. I started with kits but wanted to do it all myself. I typically use us-05 yeast and generally get pretty good productivity out of it. I typically make IPA's, double IPA's and sessions.
  3. So 11 different bucks, 3-1 doe to buck ratio, that's 44 deer. 400 acres makes about 1 deer per 9 acres. I'm not great at math, am very new to hunting and no near nothing about managing a deer population but I would say that at those numbers your land would have to be at the high end of the spectrum for providing food and cover to handle that many deer. Maybe work on a food source to try and keep your deer from wondering so much. This will provide more food for your higher population and maybe keep some doe on your property which may in turn keep some bucks from roaming so far.
  4. LOL This deer was in a field very far away from an actual road. I was on a long private drive. It makes sense that it was hit by a car tho
  5. I didn't find the sheds. They have to be around there somewhere though. Earlier last fall we saw a real nice buck chasing 3 or 4 doe in the middle of the day real close to the same place. Wish I had time and permission to look harder.
  6. Friend and I were driving down a road headed to a job and he pointed out a deer setting in the middle of a field. Grabbed my binos and noticed a little blood on its head where it's antlers had fallen off. The deer did not want to get up as I got out of the car and walked towards it. I'm thinking this will be my first shed find. It must have just dropped them. The deer got up and I felt bad I even got out of the truck. Barely walked away and had a big lump on it's front shoulder. I'm gonna guess maybe a bad shot that is infected now but maybe could have been a hit by a car. No shed score yet. Wish that you could know weather a deer would make it or not. Felt bad as he hobbled away.
  7. I collect un opened enjoy by's just because they tell you to drink them by a certain date. Gonna be an interesting experiment opening those up some day.
  8. I guess this is one way to tell. I know this is no great set of antlers but it means game on for me.
  9. I like seeing everybody's different choices in beer. Even though some I would probably not enjoy as much as others.
  10. I don't mind saranacs legacy IPA. However all there beer has a similar flavor. Probably use the same strand of yeast for everything.
  11. This barrel aged narwhal was excellent. I'm more into IPA's in general but tend to head to the dark side in winter. With not much of a winter this year I've been missing my change up in beer styles. I have to say the style of s'more by saranac is not typically my bag but I will also say that I enjoy it. I don't even like smores but for some reason felt compelled to try it. Worth a try
  12. I have a small culvert that goes under my driveway so water doesn't drizzle over the top of the drive and freeze into ice. That culvert gets frozen sometimes so I have a heat tape in it so all I have to do is plug it in and it melts out.
  13. I was so confused with all the french I just got in and got out as fast as I could. I did have some Brasserie McAuslan Double ipa. I recognized double ipa and said I'll take one of those. One day and lunch I told the waitress to surprise me because I couldn't read the menu. Ended up eating pasta with bacon in it. not bad
  14. Was in quebec and made a stop in vt on the way back. Saw the alchemist delivery truck and followed it till it stopped. just worked out
  15. I have Heady Topper in my fridge right now! And sip of sunshine.
  16. I always have my leaf blower ready to go in the winter. Awesome on the job site too because you can clear a path easy or knock snow of of beams or ladders. I was talking about this yesterday. What about one of those huge 48" fans. Blow the snow away before it touches the ground.
  17. I put his up on the forum to see what people thought. The reason it came to mind is because I was testing a drone for property management purposes (not hunting related) for the first time and I decided to have it go check my traps for me on a cold day. I had about 20 minutes of flying skills under my belt and could tell that I had a trap set off. With new drones you can acquire flying skills pretty quick. I always wondered if you could use a drone to drive the deer toward you while hunting. I personally however enjoy being in the woods. I like hearing nature more than I would ever want to mess it up with a drone. I think even if I tagged out I would still sit in the woods with a camera and probably see more since the pressure would be off. As far as scouting with a drone I think it may work when there is snow on the ground and it probably wouldn't mess with the deer if you were high enough with a good camera. The deer don't need to be chased around more than they already are on a cold winter.
  18. Has technology gone to far? I read this on the qdma website. "DRONES The latest technology controversy within the hunting community has centered on our newfound fascination with drones. Originally developed for military applications, drones have gotten smaller and much more affordable for the average person. In fact, for a few hundred bucks you can get your own drone, slap a point-of-view (POV) camera on it, and you are ready for some aerial scouting. While their use for hunting is more talk than practice at this point, several states have already been proactive in outlawing their use for hunting, including Colorado, Montana and Alaska. Much like the Live Shot case, there seems to be little support for their hunting use at this point in the game, but as the drones continue to become cheaper and more common, the subject is sure to resurface." What's your take? What problems will we see? Would you ever use one for scouting from above?
