  8. So a while ago I started a thread about my new camp, and a neighbor with a stand on the line. I was very nervous because the only shot that could be taken from the stand was onto my land. So I finally met the neighbor. I've been meaning to go introduce myself for a while now but I wanted to wait till my partners in the camp got back from their honey moon. Well it didn't work out that way. He must have seen me and@jmp5008 driving the back road after hanging a stand and decided to come over and introduce him self. He turned out to be a great guy. He did a lot of handy man work for the people that has the house before us, also plowed the driveway and took care of the lawn. We discussed that a bit and I will work out a price with him at a later date. He would also go in the house and start fires and turn the heat on for them in the winter before they would arrive at the house. So now to the stand, I asked him about it and he said it was his but it's very old and he has not hunted it in years. He said that the people who owned the house before the people that I bought it from had purchased the additional land from his father and that the stand was abandoned at that point. We talked about deer hunting what I've seen and some spots that he knows are good. He offered to use his tractor and help clear some of the logging debris to make a food plot, for a fee im sure. We left it that he will come over for a drink soon when my partners get back so we can get to know each other better. I'm actually pretty happy about that as I can see him becoming a good friend and neighbor in the future. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  9. I get that.... the biggest piece of advice I can give about hunting public land is go further and deeper than anyone else does. One you get more room to Yourself, secondly other hunters will push deer to you as they come in... get in early do not leave for lunch and stay in late. It's tough work but there are plenty of deer to be had once you get off the beaten path Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  10. I know I just bought this year.... in the past I have always hunted land belonging to others mostly family. It's tough to get strangers to let you hunt. Why not just hunt public ? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  11. The recruit is so much more powerful then you would ever imagine. I watched my buddy last year shoot one with a recruit and it went through both front shoulders no problem and dropped the deer pretty much where it stood I think she went a total Of 10 yards Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  12. Such a waste grinding any of that it was probably all so tender.... I would love to shoot a fawn October 1 Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  13. Best way to find private land is to buy it Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  14. Was pretty wild in 3h last weekend, My hunting partner and my self saw at least 5 bucks and 15 doe two of those doe were getting chased hard Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  15. So you took a shot you never should have taken because you believe that god would guide your arrow.... dude you really need to reevaluate you life and morals. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  16. Are you saying that god helped you kill the deer ? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  17. I will take a doe with fawns as long as the fawn has no spots. I feel like that is the sign that the fawn is old enough to survive on their own....... heck a dead mamma is the best bait to shoot the fawn too... a few years back we were dressing out mamma, fawn kept coming back to check on her... I started to feel bad for the little bugger that he would have to survive without mom. Thought about the other dmp I had in my pocket and popped his ass too Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  18. I couldn't agree more, I scout funnels, thick brush what ever the case may be and look for sign. I will then set up a cam in the area and get as much info as possible. Perfect example@jmp5008 and myself are hunting a new piece this year. We have been pretty successful so far. And as we move and hang new stands we have 4 cameras that move with them. Just so we can keep tabs when we aren't there during the week! It's fun. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  19. Hey how are you? They are pretty much all the same unless you get fresh from a deer farm. Your in Sullivan county right ? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  20. Well once I calm down from the whole encounter I play it over in my head. Where was the deer hit, did the arrow pass through or is it sticking out, where did the deer go, landmark last place I saw the deer. Text@jmp5008 tell him to come to me so that we can track. Find deer give a moment of silence get to work.... it's happy, sad, a feeling of excitement and relief all at the same time. I'll say this I have had certain friends ask me to teach them to hunt and I have declined because I don't think they can handle the mental ramifications that come with killing a large animal Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  21. I saw the pics of where you hit him... that's one tough son of a bitch Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
