Non-hunters hunting experience and commentary
Rattler replied to Curmudgeon's topic in General Chit Chat
I don't see animal protectionists offering to pony up the hundreds of millions of dollars trophy hunting contributes to conservation in Africa, to make trophy hunting unnecessary. They prefer to spend their money attacking hunters and legal hunting. -

If you want to understand the ideology of anti-hunters, this is all you need to know: "Between these poles – kill nothing and kill almost everything – lies the pragmatic aim of maximizing the diversity and abundance of non-human life on Earth, while securing our own survival. But this doesn’t answer the activist’s central and important point. If it’s acceptable to kill wild animals to alleviate environmental damage, why is it not acceptable to kill humans? In other words, why might we see another animal’s right to life as negotiable, but the human right to life as absolute? Because if we did otherwise, society would fall apart. The powerful would decide that the powerless must die for the greater good, as they have done many times before. Our relations would be characterized by extreme distrust and perpetual violence. We could not work together for any purpose, including environmental protection. Yes, I am a speciesist. Not because I believe human beings are innately superior to other animals, but because I believe we cannot live together (or even alone) without privileging our own existence. We don’t have to see ourselves as the divinely appointed stewards of creation to recognize that we bear responsibility for restoring the magnificent living systems we have harmed. And we don’t have to deny our bias towards ourselves to defend the lives of other beings." Pay attention to the lines in bold print. They illustrate the mindset of the anti-hunter. Since the dawn of time, man has been a predator, and that predatory instinct is what caused humans to evolve into the intelligent beings they are today. To deny that, is a sign of emotional immaturity. Human beings need food. Managing animal populations, be they domestic or wild, for the benefit of human being's consumptive needs, is necessary to human survival. To minimize those needs in defense of animal rights, is to harm humans. Human life and health on this planet must be our priority. Unless our management of flora and fauna proves to be detrimental to our own existence, our management of both is not only justified, but imperative. -

I suppose you think it would be possible for all of the citizens of America to do the same, or is this just bumptious virtue signaling? -
The 300 WM is a great round, but it seems the rimmed magnums are becoming old school. Today many magnums don't use rimmed cases. The new magnums are getting away from rims in rounds like the 300 WSM, 300 PRC, 30 Nosler, etc. Even the 30 Ackley Improved is gaining popularity again, though not as much as the 280 Ackley improved. However, the 300 WM is still the least expensive 30 caliber round for the velocity.

MV of 3000 fps from a 16" barrel is impressive, but 80,000 psi requires a rifle specially made to handle it. A rebarreled deer rifle isn't going to be safe or last very long, so gunsmiths will decline to do it. Right now the SIG Cross rifle is the only option and at $1600 isn't cheap. I'll be waiting to see where this goes over a few years time. If the military adopts it, that will bring the price of the ammo down due to the quantity produced and that may inspire more rifle makers to chamber for it.

A bigger bear was taken in NJ with a shotgun a few years back and the full body mount is on display at the Pequest trout hatchery building in NJ. If I recall correctly it went 829 lbs. A few bear in NJ have gone 700 lbs in recent years. Since the current idiot Democrat governor has banned bear hunting again on all but private land, I expect to see this bow record eclipsed within a few years.

Congratulations whacker. You win a cookie.

The article comes directly from the Missouri Conservation Department and it says they did DNA tests. Sounds pretty credible. Where does your statement refuting that info come from?
-
Did you miss this link I posted from 2010? Missouri would say your info is out dated. Either that or not all yotes are entered in the records. https://mdc.mo.gov/newsroom/hunter-shoots-unusually-large-coyote-northwest-missouri

Yeah, he was a local in the area. He used to frequent here as MrVJP. Got fed up with the site.
-
Obviously you have not read any of the links I supplied.
-
The DNA tests confirm they are coyotes.

Every year's winner is at least 50 lbs and this years was a female.
-
Did you skeptics read the article where it said it had a past winner in NY that weighed 70 lbs? Follow the trends. The average weights are going up each year. Has either one of you ever taken a coyote?
-
Google "70 lb coyote" and you will get lots of info with verified weights. These photos came from a hunting forum about big yotes. Over 50 lbs is not so rare anymore.

82 lbs https://www.thetelegram.com/news/local/province-tests-dna-of-82-pound-coyote-126046/

60lb in first pic and 80lb in 2nd pic on left & 90 lb on right

How about 104 lbs verified by Missouri Fish & Game? https://mdc.mo.gov/newsroom/hunter-shoots-unusually-large-coyote-northwest-missouri
-
A coyote was taken in a prior year that weighed 70 lbs. That ain't your typical western yote.
