  1. Wait until they put a needle in the affected joint to pull out some fluid to test. All I can say is bring something to bite on. Or have it done in space where no one can hear you scream. Good luck.
  2. I can't comment on a sleeping animal as I've never been in that situation, but was this a clean shot? Why did he shoot three times? Is that normal with lions? I will say that a video of an animal snapping and writhing in pain as it dies helps no one. For the life of me I don't understand why people post these videos. That takes a real disconnect to the current mindset and the challenges facing hunting.
  3. Patriotic boosterism is not for the feint of heart. Or colon.
  4. Its funny that some of you guys go for the "double double". That seems like such a Canadian thing to me. Why would you have first ordered that? Insider tip - they will literally make you anything. If you like chocolate try the 1/2 coffee 1/2 hot chocolate. Cuts the sweetness nicely. But if you like sweetness order "The Gretsky" - 9 creams and 9 sugars. Other TH hacks (like the Donut BLT - seriously): https://www.narcity.com/life/all-of-the-tim-hortons-secret-menu-food-hacks-that-you-need-to-try-asap https://www.narcity.com/life/canadians-revealed-the-best-tim-hortons-secret-menu-drinks-you-have-to-try-asap
  5. ^ This is now a thing, mostly marketed as Bulletproof Coffee. Take a cup of coffee and add some MCT coconut oil and 2 tbsp of grass-fed unsalted butter. Froth in blender and drink. Health effects are mostly BS in my opinion, but some people love it.
  6. Dude ... yes, Canada. Tim Horton was a Canadian hockey player - one of the best actually - and after retirement he and an ex-cop named Ron Joyce started the coffee shop on Ottawa Street in Hamilton, ON - a steel town midway between Buffalo and Toronto. (Actually, it was the proximity to those two towns that kept Hamilton from having an NHL team.) I grew up around the corner and we would hang out there for hours as kids. After Horton died in a car crash in the '70s, Joyce bought out his widow for 1MM. Worst deal ever. My mother went to school with Joyce and I remember hanging at his very fancy house hoping my mother would hook up with him after my father died. Not to be. Joyce later became great friends with Dave Thomas from Wendy's which is why TH and W are often paired together at food malls. P. S. I just looked him up and he died about two moths ago. I'll have to let my mother know.
  7. I vacillate between geeking out with my thermometer and scales, and using my Nespresso machine. Due to their enormous buying power, Nespresso can source premier beans and deliver excellent coffee. I think it works out to about $70/pound so there is that, but the convenience plus damn-fine-coffee factor is hard to beat.
  8. A self-respecting one? As someone who orders coffee from around the world, grinds only what I'm brewing at the moment, weighs my grounds, checks temp of water and times coffee immersion, this thread is making me cry black bitter tears. That said, I'm not a complete coffee dweeb. I grew up two blocks from the first Tim Hortons and it is like mother's milk to me.
  9. You can grab a cheap tube in a lot of places. But as they others say, carry it strapped to the outside. Many packs have a water bottle holder at the sides and that holds the end of a tube well.
  10. Interesting that it's "pop" in all of Canada. And "submarine" for a long meat and cheese sandwich.
  11. I bought four of those and handed them out for Christmas. Lots of fun.
  12. About an hour ago I tried to get to my cabin. No snow all the way then I hit my road. Snow. Parked at the bottom and walked the mile up. The snow was just under my knees at my place. Checked that I t was still standing and walked down. Never buy a place on the north slope.
  13. Power Bulges! Torsion Bar Suspensions! Chrome Engines! And Red-Striped Racing Slicks! HOT WHEELS!!! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OuCcx_Rcd6o
  14. I remember feigning illness and staying home from school because Devo was on The Mike Douglas Show.
  15. And yet both of my Hunter's Ed courses in the last three years were packed. The one in the Bronx was overflowing with people and about a third of those were under 25. That seems to be par for the course if one looks at how difficult it is to find an open class online. Where are all these new hunters going?
  16. Caught Ravenous (Les Affamés) last night. A pretty good French-Canadian zombie flick with no superhero heroics and no explanations as to why the dead are walking. Just eight people trying to survive in the Quebec countryside which looks identical to upstate NY. Genuine moments of tension. One scene at the end that took me out of it. If you want to know how far you'll get with your old Ithaca 37 this could be the guide.
  17. This is the best advice I've ever heard - you're probably screwed and are going to die but what the hell.
  18. Back in the day I really wanted this but my father explained that I couldn't afford it. Damn lousy allowance.
  19. It seems more of a no one knows. But in the event of a nuclear attack I'd probably rather have a compass than a GPS. The least of my problems. My challenge will be getting the hell off Manhattan if they close the bridges and tunnels. The plan is to fight my way to the Hudson then inflatable kayak up to Canada with my trusty compass leading the way.
  20. Will a GPS survive an EMP? This is less about using the compass and map to navigate as it is just knowing how to use them. rac, I will take you up on that as I am more of a book learner. Thanks.
  21. It starts and stops a bit and there may be a few padded episodes, but not bad overall. Big music budget, the bad guys drive a Volvo GT I used to own, some of it was shot in my hometown, and it's nice to see Dickon Tarly dance.
  22. Thanks, all. I really want to get my map skills up to speed as well. I did learn all this in scouts but that was years ago. I should probably dig out my 1973 Canadian Scout Handbook. It was chock full of great advice like Hygiene: girls appreciate a clean young man so be sure to wash daily, comb your hair, brush your teeth three times a day, and clean and press your clothing before a date. I've put that to great use over the years.
  23. Which are more or less nonexistent. Any preferred books, videos, courses out there? Thanks.
