  1. i don't really know the hours but 4-6 sometimes 8 hours, per trip.It all depends on the weather i quit when the temps. get in the 40's ticks being the reason.Me and a friend where just talking about how 20-30 sheds was a descent year, now it's more like 5-10 per year.He was saying maybe the deer management program here on long island was working. Then i heard today the dec is going to extend the archery season until the end of march this year. All my shed hunting is on state land i use to hunt. The biggest park is 3000 acres. My buddy does a mix of private and county land.
  2. hang-on with sticks for portability.
  3. isn't there a cap there already that holds the spring in? i haven't had a 500 in years so i don't remember.someone with one will let you now. i just checked my 835 it has a cap or what ever it's called holding the spring in.
  4. 20 sheds use to be a good year for me. i don't think i ever saw a opossum out during the day.
  5. not sure what you mean there, but my brother breaks his Bellini every time he's never had an issue with accuracy.
  6. is there any difference in the new or older models? this guy has 3006,270 and 308 http://www.coliseumguns.net/product.remington-7600-standard-pump-30-06-springfield-185-41-satin-walnut-stk-blued
  7. i don't live up there yet i bought the house for retirement in four years.when i do get up there full time it's on. the blr didn't get to many good reviews.i have a remington 700 22-250 it's a little overkill for the thick areas i hunt. i have been using a gsp for years now it's a very useful tool for sure,
  8. Stopped over my parents after work,no one home so I went to grab a water and there it was moms baked ziti MINE. I left $20 and the Chinese menu on the counter and bolted.
  9. ^^^^^i've sewed up plenty of pants legs to make sand bags works great.
  10. i have the caldwell rock and rock jr. if the bench your shooting off is short sided the legs on the rock might be to long that's why i picked up jr. I use the rock on the bench i made.Ether way the name says it all rock solid.I picked up a protek OR rear bag but never could get used to it.
  11. i'm going gun shopping this weekend it was supposed to be for a revolver, but i'm going to check out rifles instead.my boss swears by his rem. 7600 3006.i'm going to look around for one.i never picked up or tried on fast cycling a rifle because i always shot off the bench.that just changed!!
  12. after playing around with my marlin 3030 and ruger 3006 i'm thinking the 3030 might be the way to go with snap shooting.Going to hit the range and see which one fit the need better. funny you mentioned the BLR i never knew the existed until last night.I'm thinking of getting the 223 rem. for coyote hunting.
  13. good stuff here guys, i knew when i bought my house up in the adk's it was going to be a challenge. I'm looking forward learning how to stalk and still hunt up there. This will be the fifth season up there the second year i walked up on a small five point during the rut he had no clue i was there. That was my second gun buck ever for me.The season after that i tried sitting[treestands] didn't see anything but a few does.Last season i mixed it up and realized still hunting was the only way to go up there.I walked up on a busted up rack buck but gave him a pass.this season it going to be all still hunting with the ml and gun.i've been reading watching videos and going over maps. thanks for all the info i'm soaking it all in.
  14. i watch turkey all the time when i'm out. They like most animals that group have a pecking order both toms and hens have a hierarchy.I noticed one flock is starting to thin out around here.Mother hen will decide whose staying with the flock and kick the rest out.old Toms are pretty much loners,Jacks are like teenagers with high testosterone always testing each other. That's just my 2cents on what i see around here on long island we don't have a spring season so you can really watch what un-pressured birds do. give turkey hunting a shot it's awesome.
  15. not sure if it's the angle, but it looks like a pug face bass[short top lip]?
  16. BBQ chicken sausage with brussel sprouts.
  17. ya i'll definitely be hitting the range. btw thanks for the tip on the lead pistol bullets in the muzzleloader worked great and saved me some coin.
  18. i hit one of those one morning it was stuck in my grill.I Felt like crap.
  19. forgot to say this is probably the only way i'll ever gun hunt.
  20. Been practicing some staking and still hunting no weapons of course. It's a little hard around here to track one deer.Yesterday i got on one big and one small set of tracks there was no mistaking the freshness of them.I followed them for a few hundred yards then i saw the fawn got a little closer and saw the mama made it to about 75yrds when all hell broke loose there was about 6-8 more deer bed down in front of them.Went over and checked out the beds.Started shed hunting again found a giant track looked like it was made in the morning started following it which was rough but i'm pretty sure i stead on the same tracks about an hour of tracking and looking a head BINGO locked eyes with a buck laying under a tree, vine nest PING he was gone.He didn't have his antlers but i could see where they where. My heart was pounding so hard i thought it was going to explode.I haven't had that "buck fever" feeling in years.Intense even if i had a gun i couldn't get a shot off.Did a bunch of little circles around there looking for his sheds nothing. this is a pic of where he was.The little white paper looking thing is the bed.the second pic is the bed with hair in it.
  21. i think there;s a lot of other people out shed hunting these days.i use to find that many in one park.it took all four to get those this year.still fun to get out when nothing else is going on.
  22. Today was probably the last shed hunt for me this year. Not as good as usual one set and three singles one turtle shell.
  23. Got out for a long day today no sheds today.I followed the longest scrape/rub line i ever seen 36 rubs when i stopped count with 13 scrapes all in a some what straight line for two miles according to my gps.The rubs where all different sizes. The only thing i found was the remains of a opossum and someones teeth
