http://www.lostateminor.com/2012/08/29/shoes-designed-to-leave-animal-prints-when-you-walk/ and apparently it wasn't just a fashion trend...the idea was used before during prohibition. http://rarehistoricalphotos.com/cow-shoes-used-moonshiners-prohibition-days-disguise-footprints-1922/

Many within the inner city never thought much about nature and outdoors sports because they don't know that they have access to such only a short drive/ride away. My last hike in Mt Taurus, I made a point to get there via Metro North rather than driving. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Maybe separating "New York Gun and Hunting Laws and Legislation" with "Politics Discussion". Some may want to filter out "Immigrants Are Destroying This Country" but not miss out on "Dove Hunting Making Progress" even though filters don't work on TapaTalk. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

To get your arm back in shape? Row a boat. Fun, scenic, and similar to drawing back a bow. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Also ate some mountain blueberries and some wineberries. At least I hope that's what they were.

Hiked a quick 5 mile loop in Mt Taurus near Cold Springs yesterday. Took the steep climb up and the long way down. Views at the top were spectacular even on a cloudy day. Saw tons of frogs. At the end of the loop are the ruin remains of an mansion. Limited to a 105mm lens and I don't have his ninja skills to get that close to animals, my wildlife photography is simply not up too wooly's standards.

I've always marveled at fugu (Japanese puffer fish sashimi). One of the most poisonous fish in the world with no known antidote. Taking the wrong bite pretty much means instant death. How did the first few fugu sushi chefs figure out what parts of the fish was edible? You would figure once you saw people die after eating the fish they would simply stop eating the fish, right? I guess hunger is the mother of many culinary inventions. I was always curious as to what was going through these chef's minds when they kept experimenting with the fish? I'm just as curious as to what goes through a hunter's mind when they grab a caliber a decent amount of hunters deemed under powered and they point it at a deer the very first time? It usually takes a wounded deer for one to realize a caliber is too small or a distance is too far where as getting too close only result in a deer running away.

I was actually going to suggest adding a hiking as well as a foraging forum since many of us do these activities during the off season. This will give us something other than politics to talk about until the season starts. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Define "survival". Long term and on the move? Just need to hold out at home for a few days? The reason the 22LR gets so much love in a bug out situation is because you can fit 50+ rounds in the palm of your hands so carrying several hundred rounds in your backpack won't slow you down yet powerful enough to take small to medium size game up to deer. Weight and size is a major factor when backpacking. In this survival scenario, you're not really going to be hunting buffalo since there is no where for you to store/carry all that meat anyway. Most abundant game is small game and large caliber a will destroy too much meat on a squirrel. Against 2 legged predators, you wouldn't be looking for a fire fight so you would utilize stealth when over 100+ yards. When confronted, you're most likely under a 100 yards so the 22LR isn't ideal but it also isn't useless when you have a 50 round mag attached. That's my reasoning for the 22LR repeater. 22LR. There's a reason why everyone is hoarding them. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Took the family and hiked Lake Minnewaska on Sunday. I've done this hike before but this was the first time with a baby strapped to my back. Short easy hike. Great views. Can get very crowded on nice days. Going to see if I can get some free time and hike either Mount Taurus or Breakneck Ridge on Thursday.

I would let nature take it's course but I picked "fire up the grill" on the poll just for giggles.

I don't even watch men soccer, why would I watch women's soccer? As far as the women on the team? I can just check them out in a bikini photoshoot instead of watching them run around a field.

What new gun? This old thing? It's been here for years!

Haha! What happened? You've ran out of your own excuses and now you're looking for new ones? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

So as long as a whole bunch of people are eating it this proving its edible, I'm willing to try anything once. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Keep in mind that the trails are also hiked by hippie tree huggers. All it takes is for you to bump into one along the trail that makes a phone call and you might be in a whole lot of trouble. Have to weigh to risk/rewards. If you go remote, it's less likely to bump into anyone. Some of the trails I've been on are empty once you go deep but the trail heads are usually pack with people looking to do a short easy loop.. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
