  5. The idiots in Westchester won't even sell me 22WMR without a handgun permit because it can be used in a handgun. Even while in the mist of me buying a long gun chambered for 22WMR from them. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  8. Taking your kids with you hunting...that's simply your responsibility as a father.
  9. All is good. If you know the "true" cost of owning the rifle and still willing to deal with it, then don't let anyone tell you what to do.
  10. Availability and price is something I always factor when choosing a rifle. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  11. Does a cartridge need to be the absolute best at its purpose for you to use it? If the 30-06 can more than adequately do the job without much to worry about then one would not need to find a better option. If money and space is not a concern then we wouldn't need to have this debate but when money and space is a major factor then one would need to consider redundancy. I use a 308 and I have yet to encounter a situation when I'm out hunting and had to pass up a shot because I only had a 308 and not a 270.

  13. I use a fixed 4X Simmons on my muzzleloader and it delivered me my first deer. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  14. Exactly. If they would have simply said they could not deliver, I would have gone done where else and paid more if need be. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  15. $350. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  16. I also didn't have any friends who hunt so I made some new friends who do hunt. It's pretty simple.
  17. So I spoke with South Texas Hunting Outfitters and eventually came to an agreement. They told me that I would have to hunt with another group of hunters since it's a two hunter minimum even though it was never specified on the website. I told them I'm okay with it if the other group is okay with me staying with them. He told me it was settled then and I mailed in my deposit which was eventually cashed. I was sent a packet and instructed to get a hold of them a week before my hunt for instructions since there is no address, etc. A week before the hunt, I emailed them. No response. I called, got voicemail, left a message, no response. Did this for 4 straight days. At this point, I'm under the impression I've been had and need to find a plan B but eventually I received a call back the day before my flight and they were very apologetic. They told me I need to contact the guide before the hunt so we can meet up. My hunt was suppose to be Sunday evening, all day Monday, and Tuesday morning. Saturday morning I called the guide, no pick-up, left a message, never got a call back. Sunday morning, called him again and he finally picked up. Told me to meet him at a post office in some small town an hour from San Antonio. I dropped my wife off at the airport and drove to this post office and waited. Guy never showed up. So I called him again and he now instructs me to drive down the road and look for a gate. Eventually I get there and it's the guys farm and check in, pay my remaining balance, and the guide goes back to watching TV. There were other hunters there and they all have this sour look on their faces. After a long wait, I approach the guide and ask him where should I unload my stuff and he told me to leave everything in the car since I'm about to head to another camp. I assumed that we simply met up at the guide home but will be hunting some where else. We drove another 2 hours to another camp and was instructed to meet Shyler Farley. Shyler told us that he had no idea we were coming but only an hour ago and was completely caught off guard. That's when I spoke with the other hunters and found out that they were treated just as poorly as I was. In fact more since they arrived a day before me. Told me that the farm they was at was completely filthy, unlivable, they were not tended to, and they didn't see a single hog. They threw such a fit and that's why they sent them to Shyler instead. Turns out, South Texas Hunting Outfitters is nothing more than simply an agent or pimp if you will. Shyler even told us that while he has corresponded with STHO via phone and email, he has never actually met them and they've never actually been to his ranch. How the heck does STHO make promises to customers when they haven't even actually seen the ranches they're sending customers to? All the driving around made us lose out on Sunday night hunt. Shyler is a class act and really went out of his way to make the most of what was left of our hunt. He was simply dealt a bad hand because he had absolutely no time to prepare for our arrival. No bait was laid out. It also didn't help that they had 4" of rain two days before which eliminated the watering holes which he said were guaranteed to normally have pigs but now there is water every where. In the end, I had two different species of deer come in, turkeys, grouse, rabbits, but no pigs. Most of the other hunters had pigs come in but they were hunting with long bows and didn't have much of a shot. One guy did take a small pig. In the end, even though I came home empty handed, Shyler really treated me well and my time under his watch was very enjoyable. Met a bunch of really nice hunters and Texas Hill Country was beautiful. If I ever go back to South Texas to hunt again, I'll just go straight to Shyler.
  18. I talk to people I know about hunting. I'm willing to take any of them but none of them so far has come forth and asked me nor am I going to push anything on them. I only openly talk about my experiences and the reasons why I hunt. I even cook some of the meat and let them try it. As far as strangers go, Since I've started hunting 5 years ago I have personally taken 4 strangers out hunting so far. Of those, it looks like only 2 of them still hunt and I keep in contact with them here and there. If every single one of us get 2 people to hunt our numbers would triple.
