  2. QUESTION, how many fish did you catch in that thing? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  3. Other orange stuff that goes down my hatch are oranges and (unfortunately these days), Metamucil. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  4. Written by a non-hunter but it seems like he really grasped the concept of how hunting plays an important role in conservation. http://www.gq.com/long-form/who-wants-to-shoot-an-elephant??mbid=nl_20150804_daily&spMailingID=7959117&spUserID=MTAyNDEwNjQ3NzY5S0&spJobID=740531155&spReportId=NzQwNTMxMTU1S0
  5. Holding the draw back hasn't been a problem for me. It's my left arm (I'm right handed so I draw back with my right) holding up the bow that starts to fatigue and tremble first. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  6. I always share my bounty and I don't get that much to begin with. Been out a long time ago. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  7. Having to get so close is why I am not sure if the 410 is he best choice for a beginner since you have to have the patience to get a lot closer than a 12 gauge. As far as head shots on squirrels, the head of a squirrel is so small that even a 22LR delivers enough hydrostatic shock the put down the squirrel even if you don't hit the brain directly, you can put the squirrel down with a head shot. Even if it isn't an instant kill, it'll drop the squirrel to the ground and you can go up to it and end its suffering (I've only had to do that twice). Never had a head shot get away. You really need to snip the jaw for it to get away. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  8. Yes to asparagus. No to it's effects.
  9. I've already seen the ones I've already wanted to see so the ones I regret not being able to see are: Michael Jackson, The Beatles, and Jimi Hendrix.
  10. And that's why I stuck with the 12 gauge instead of getting a 410. Only 1/4 the cost to shoot. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  11. Don't know why 410 cartridges cost more than 12 or 20 gauge. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  12. Its a little more difficult where I'm at. I'm sure there are some spots on public land where guys can limit out but those spots are hard to come by. Be thankful you found one of those spots.
  13. Depends on the mood. Like everyone else said, I enjoy deer hunting for the adrenaline rush and excitement. But I find squirrel hunting relaxing and casual. If I had to rank them though, it'll be #1 deer, and #2 squirrel.
  14. Didn't the guy just incriminate himself? Isn't it illegal to feed deer?
  15. 12 gauge for rabbits, 22 for squirrels. Rabbits will run so there's really no way around the shotgun. Squirrels, I just hate picking out pellets. 22 double lung or head shots makes cleaning up a lot easier. You'll lose some squirrels during the fall because they won't give you a clear open shot or they're not sitting still but hunting isn't always about getting the kill every single time. 16. If you look closely to the poop you'll see blue berries so that'll give you a size comparison. I'd go with coon.
  17. I don't use a dog. Unless you want to call Shawnhu a dog. We take turns. One guy pushes while the other waits. It's like a deer drive. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  18. Hold them and if they allow you, shoot them. How the bow feels in your hand is very important and each individual is different. We get caught up in how great a bow someone else tells you it is but ultimately it is you who will be the one shooting it. I bought a cheaper now than my budget allowed because the one the more expensive one didn't feel as good and the ones that felt better was out of my budget. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    Mt Taurus

Took the wife to the other side of Mt Taurus and hiked Breakneck Ridge. Didn't bring the SLR but I did bring a selfie stick.
  21. I do a lot of my bow practices at Pro-Line Archery and Queens Archery. They're both in at the Brooklyn/Queens/Nassau border area. I recommend going to them to try out some bows and shoot some arrows. If you haven't yet, you need to take your hunter safety course as well as your bow hunting course to be able to buy your hunting license. Check the DEC website to see available courses near you though it might be cutting it tight for this upcoming season. http://www.dec.ny.gov/outdoor/92267.html There are tons of archery deer opportunities in Long Island but I can't really help you with that as I do all my hunting in the Westchester/Putnam/Orange counties but there are a bunch of Nassau hunters on the forum that might be able to help.
  22. Welcome to the forum.
