  1. Completely forgot since it's taking forever. I ordered extra barrels for my H&R Handi-Rifle. Ordered them mid June. Still hasn't arrived.
  2. You can change it yourself in your settings. Can't remember where off the top of my head and I can't access it at the moment on my phone.
  3. I shouldn't say maximum...I should rather say "a littler more than the typical" distance.
  4. I read an article this morning in Field and Stream on tactics for hunting deer near roads. Starting to wonder if my fear in unfound.
  5. I was thinking maximum distance a well shot deer can still travel. 75 to 100 yards.
  6. I always have this fear that if I shoot a deer near a road (bow or firearm) that the deer might run right into the road and cause an accident. For this reason, I refuse to hunt near a road. Opinions?
  7. Often, hunters get every single tag they can get to maximize their chances even if they're only planning on taking a couple of deer during the season. I know I do. But then they'll get lucky and reach their goal very early into the season and so are nice enough to give any extra remaining tags they have left to others. Note: Only DMP tags can be signed over to others.
  8. People trade doe tags here. Some even give a few away. Might be tough for 3P because it's a popular area but all is not completely lost.
  9. The dude is batting like 25%. I like the comments on the video too. Other hunters are ripping him apart and he's got a "you think you can do better, huh, tough guy?" types of responses.
  10. If you only purchase the big game regular season license, you only get one buck tag. You can apply for up to 2 doe tags and you specify the wildlife management unit you want the tags for. They can be for the same WMU or for different WMU. It is not a first come first serve basis. It is a lotto system for a set number of tags. If you apply and is denied, you accumulate points. The more points you accumulate the higher the chance of you getting a doe tag the next year. I believe the WMU for Sterling Forest is 3P.
  11. Thanks. Fortunately I had received that advise before so we already are keeping separate kitties. Somehow, she still criticizes my purchases.
  12. It will depend. If the drag will be difficult I might pass. More importantly, I feel morally responsible to use any animal to the fullest extent if I take its life. For a bear, that means it will be a rug. With it costing upwards of $1K to make a rug, I have to think if I'm willing to spend that kind of money at the moment. For me, it'll also mean I have to buy a gift for the wife while I explain to her why I just spent $1K on a bear rug. If times are lean, I'll pass. If it's a great looking bear, I'll whip out the credit card.
  13. It depends on the spot you're planning to hunt. If possible, I would always use natural cover. It is only when natural cover is not available that I start to consider other options such as a pop-up blind or tree stand. You have to identify your pinch point and then adjust to what nature gives you.
  14. Born, Sterling has designated parking spots.
  15. I had someone leave a gut pile on a footpath I'm guessing the night before. My boots found it when I tried to get to my spot before the sun came up. Not cool.
  16. I was curious how that worked. Don't you need to pass the safety course before you can purchase a license? Can they get DMPs and then sign them over to you?
  17. Why is your phone up on a tree and not in your pocket?
  18. You said it yourself. If you plan to hunt for 20 years then it's absolutely worth it because you haven't even factor in inflation. If you plan of quoting hunting before 20 years then maybe not.
  19. +1 on the dragging it if it's on a footpath or something similar so that it's out of sight of any possible humans. I'm also thinking of just quartering on the spot this year if I get the chance.
  20. I'm guessing gut farts right next to the flames of a woodstove can not be all that safe.
  21. I simply learned to selectively read certain posts/threads and ignore the others.
  22. We also survived through polio but that doesn't we should have gotten vaccinated. It's always good to play it safe. When I head out, I leave the GPS feature on my phone on so my wife can locate me on her phone in case some thing terrible happens.
