I haven't been out there in a while but during the winter, you were able to find some of a CCI 50 box rounds for relatively close to what they were going far pre-shortage prices. Did the shortage get even worst?

After taking most of last year off due to the birth of my future hunting buddy, I'll just be happy to be in the woods again. I'm not trying as hard this year. Just being out there is all that I need. . I did take a long hard look at the Ares Defense SCR though.

Never realized hunting and/or the sport of shooting was a pissing contest or an arm wrestling match.

That's one big fish! Awesome catch.

Totally agree and that's what baffles me. If you see movement in the bushes...as an ethical hunter, should you wait to see if it's board side and try to aim behind the shoulder? If you don't see what looks like the board side of a deer's shoulder than you shouldn't be pulling the trigger. Even if it's really a deer and not another hunter.

You can make it even better by paying the neighborhood kids to walk by and bob up and down like a feeding deer while you sling nerf arrows at them.

The 243 is a book that is often judge by it's cover because the obvious stat everyone sees right away is the number 243. But if you look at it's ballistic energy, the 243 packs a lot down range energy than the 30-30 which so many people claim to have taken more deer than any other caliber in existence and has no problems recommending it to new hunters. Sure. the 30-30 will cause a bigger wound channel but the 243 will rip the insides up a lot better. So the real question is what do you think is more effective at taking down animals? A large wound channel or hydrostatic shock?

My walkie talkies accept headphones and microphones. We keep one ear piece on. If a deer is in front of me, obviously I'm not going to talk on the radio but if my hunting buddy talks to me, nothing around me will hear it.

I say anyone who leads the cops on a life threatening, dangerous high speed chase is guilty of something serious. I also have no problem with the police using extreme force to end the chase.

Yes...never again. And that's why I posted so other people don't make the same mistake.

Orange hat going to my spot during bow then I take it off. Orange hat during small game. Orange vest and hat during gun and muzzleloader.
-
I had my feet on the bow, drew back slightly with on arm and applied the wax with the other. I dropped it off at Pro-Line in Queens today. Went outside and grabbed a bite to eat. Came back and it was all ready on the table. Guy charged me $2. I then stayed there and shot the bow for a 2 hours with breaks in between.
-
And I made the mistake of drawing the bow back to wax a hard to reach part and the string came off the came. Might as well get a full tune up at the shop now.

Before you have to use the previous years license since license run Oct 1st to Sept 30. Now they're switching it to run from Sept 1st to Aug 31st but for THIS year only, you can use the 2014/15 license OR the 2013/14 license during September. After this year, you will have to use the new license starting Sept.

I didn't list food because what I listed is what's in my bag at all times. Regardless if it's an all day hunt or a quick hunt. If it's an all day hunt, I'll bring a thermos filled with coffee, another filled with Campbell's Chunky Soup. Maybe a couple of granola bars or a PB and J.

I zero my 308 at 100 yards. The ballistics of the 308 is pretty much a straight line out to 100 when zero'ed in at that range. Even at muzzle, the only difference is the distance of the muzzle and the line of sight of the scope (an inch or two). I always aim for center mass. If ever the target is so small that a couple of inch push/pull or drop would be the difference between a hit or a complete miss than you probably shouldn't be shooting at it. But like NFA-ADK said, it doesn't matter what distance you zero your rifle to. Just know the trajectory of your bullet at each distance. Example. I sight my 308 at 100 yards. I know the bullet drops 3.9 inches at 200 yards. I've confirmed this as I routinely shoot out to 200 yards at the range. I leave it sighted in at 100 but if I ever encounter a deer at 200 yards, I know I just have to aim 4 inches high.

I assume its like any other vendor/manufacturer relationship. A deal couldn't be agreed upon.

Yeah, I can't sit still that long. I typically sit in either the blind or tree stand (depending on which spot I use) during the morning hours and evening hours. During the mid-afternoon, I still hunt.

Items that is always in my bag. All of these items fit into the small front pocket of my back pack and hardly weighs anything together. 2 AA batteries Compass GPS zip ties 50 feet of paracord drag rope space pen zip lock bag filled with cotton weed zip lock bag with toilet paper magnesium fire starter lighter tin can filled with cotton balls soaked in Vaseline Havalon knife multi-tool mini-flashlight that uses the same battery as my GPS (AA so I don't have to carry multiple types as spares) A bottle of water goes into a side mesh pocket. In the main pocket, I carry a first aid kit. Also in the main pocket I keep a binder filled with print outs of maps of areas I frequent, season dates, rules and regulations pertaining to the areas I hunt, special passes, etc. Depending on the hunt, I bring extra items as needed.

Henry Lever Action Octagon Rifle - Frontier Model. I simply wanted one to shoot/plink so I got one in 22LR so a day of fun at the range doesn't cost me an arm and a leg. Now if only I can find some 22 ammo...

3 pins. 20, 30, 40.
-
Borngeechee, I think you need to specify whether it's rifle hunting or bow hunting because that'll make a difference.

Ha! But then he gets the couple that prefers the girl on top.
