  1. I see...so when you're shooting up a bunch of innocent people, you're only going to load 7 rounds at a time because you certainly don't want to receive a fine!
  2. I live in NYC so I've already been dealing with this but I at least had the dream that one day, I'll be able to get a house in Westchester and not have to deal with this anymore and now, that dream is gone.
  3. Pictures are worth a thousand words.
  4. The back of the broadhead can't be angled or pointed. You should be able to pull the arrow out without overly tearing flesh.
  5. They're talking about the pistol hand grip in the front. I've also never seen a criminal stab someone to death with a bayonet instead of shooting them.
  6. Ruger makes a 5 round mag that would make your 10/22 legal. Before you go jumping on me I want to make it clear that I'm not saying this is right. I'm just saying that it's something you can get to make your 10/22 legal again in this new chaotic world order.
  7. Every game animal is different so they're hunted differently and provides different challenges. Small game is always a great intro because they're more common so you can learn about hunter faster. Different game animals also require different type of firearms. Make sure you have the appropriate firearms to match your game. example: crows/uplands birds - shotgun squirrels - shotgun, 22LR, airguns
  8. Ummm...sid. How old are you if you don't me asking?
  9. Once you identify the park you want to hunt in, find out about that parks regulations. The state of New York has it's regulations but each county has their own sets of rules as well and some parks even have their own rules. For example, long island is shotgun only during specific times of the year, etc. Read up on the behaviors and patterns of the game animal you want to hunt, be it squirrel, pheasant, or deer. Know how the animal defends/hides itself, what it eats, where it likes to sleep, etc. then do a ton of scouting/hiking looking for those clues. Knowing your gun is very, very, very important to firearm safety but a hunter who knows everything about the game animal he is pursuing but is only an average shot will be more successful than a sharpshooter who doesn't know anything about his prey.
  10. First off, where are you located? You can go to the DEC website and download the google earth add-on. It'll give you a map of a bunch of places you can hunt. http://www.dec.ny.gov/outdoor/7844.html I can see some outfitters that you drag you to a spot that they had already scouted, sit you there, and then you shoot the deer when it walks by. This is shooting a deer. You won't learn anything about hunting this way but this can potential "hook" a customer to keep relying on this outfitter to shoot deer. I can also see an outfitter who takes you around and explains how to located, track, and hunt a deer. The latter type of outfitter may be worth it. I've never used an outfitter so I can say which ones are good or bad.
  11. No, they're all pretty much the same. If there are any surprises, you can call them up just like an agent and speak with a customer rep. They might just route you to the airlines customer rep instead at he very worst.
  12. I've used Travelocity, Expedia, and Orbitz. Don't like Orbitz. I use Travelocity and only go with Expedia if they find me a cheaper rate which is rare because it's usually the same.
  13. I did the same. Bought a basic 10/22 and then mod it up with a black hogue synthetic stock and a bull barrel. If you're going to have several guns, the 10/22 should be one of them.
  14. They tried to introduce a couple of red tail hawks into Battery Park many years ago to combat the pigeons and rats. One of them got beat up by a pair of perigrine falcons that had a nest right off of water street. It survived and never bother those falcons again. I worked across the street from their nest at the time. Then one day, one of the hawks mistakened a lady's chihuahua for a rat and that ended the hawks program. The two hawks got relocated upstate.
  15. I've be never had a problem with having too difficult of a shot that I can't make. I have more trouble finding the actual deer. Where this is a real advantage would be a hut out west or Alaska where you can see the deer over a mile away and have to try to get closer for a shot.
  16. What exactly does the DEC and nature conservation have to do with gun laws? DEC isn't the people who are banning guns nor are the money you spend on license going towards that.
  17. Bottom right corner of page 24 of the 2012-13 hunting/trapping guide explains it further in greater detail.
  18. Here it is. Guess just for big game: It is illegal to hunt deer or bear with the aid of any artificial light including laser sights. http://www.dec.ny.go...door/28182.html
  19. What they mean by that is "laser red dot pointers" like you see in the movies are illegal and indeed they are.
  20. Last crap story then I'm done. I use to work for the American Red Cross. During Hurricane Katrina, I was assigned to Mobile, Alabama and Buloxi, Mississippi. I drove around setting up ad-hoc networks for relief workers. Half the time I slept out of the SUV and eating military MRE's. I didn't know then but my brother told me later that military MRE's are design to make you constipated because you don't want to have the runs while out in the field. Did not know. I went to the infirmary and told the nurse that I've been here a whole week and I've taken nothing but a single rabbit turd so she gave me some laxitives. A few more days, still nothing, so she gave me stronger ones. A few more days, still nothing. So she said since my time is up the next day, she figured there was no point in giving me any more. That last night, me and a few of the guys I met down there hit the town. The next morning, they took me to the airport. I'm sitting there waiting and all of a sudden I had to go and go I went. Ran to the bathroom and I completely filled the bowl. I showed that toilet who's boss. Essentially, I dropped 2 weeks worth of crap right there. Got on the plane. An couple of hours in...had to go again. Landed in JFK...had to go again. I was full of crap.
  21. I have the redfield revolution 4-12X40mm.
