I always lock my computer when I walk away. I have to worry a little extra when everyone I work with are computer wiz. I editted my response. -

Umm...what? -
I wonder how big of a market that's going to be. There's always the danger that the general public won't catch on and those who jump on the bandwagon early might end up getting stuck with a rifle that parts and ammo won't be readily available in the future. Who knows. 5 years or so from now, I would have gotten good use out of my 17HMR and the 17WSM becomes test and proven, I just might switch over.

Don't you know? Politicians think only the rich and powerful are allowed to protect themselves. They don't give a rat's a$# about the others.

Same here. I went having 7 under me down to 2.

Even semi-autos. My Ruger 10/22, after you fire, you can't put the safety on. I have to slide the bolt at least half way back (and you'll hear the firing pin cock) before I can engage the safety.
-
Most guns won't allow you to do that. Take a typical bolt action rifle. Right after to fire the gun, you can't put the safety on. You have to pull back the bolt (which cocks the firing pin) before you can put the safety on. If you have the safety on, it probably means your firing pin has been pulled back.
-
Most guns, you cannot engage the safety without cocking the bolt back first. So do you cock the bolt and engage the safety or do you "fire" the gun and then store it with the safety off? I heard that leaving the gun unfired might weaken the spring. True or not true?

Until they come up with a show or a book titled "How To Hunt Near NYC", books and TV shows are not 100% reliable. That said, it doesn't mean they're useless. They'll explain deer behavior and tactics. You then have to figure out how the close proximity to NYC will alter those behaviors and tactics (or if they effect them at all).

Do not let others sway you from your decision based on aesthetics. If you feel the rifle will serve functions for you then you should get it. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and no one is wrong or right as to what they find to look cool. When I can't find a particular rifle, I call up the local FFLs near me and ask them to see if they can order it from their suppliers. Just because they don't have it in stock doesn't mean they can't get it.

Better question would be why?

I think anyone who already has either a 223, 17 HMR, or 22 WMR, won't feel a need to upgrade/downgrade. Those who don't will find this round to be a very interesting round.

Didn't we have such a thread before? I'm a Computer Support Supervisor.

You won't find the spot no one goes to but I think there's a difference between the spot 2 or 3 hunters go to versus the spot 20-30 hunters rumbles through.

This guy give it a good review.

The 17HMR and 22WMR filled the void between the 22LR and the 223. Rightfully so. It looks like this new 17 super mag fills the void between the 17HMR/22WMR and the 223. The problem I think is that there isn't a game animal out there that's fits in between those two calibers. As in, there isn't an animal where the 17HMR is under powered and at the same time, the 223 was over powered and/or too expensive.

shawn and joseph is right...you have to scout, scout, scout, and find a nice spot that few others know about. Sounds tough but it's possible. Or just be willing to hike further than the other hunters will be willing to hike. Stewart is so heavily hunted by big game hunters that you're just playing the lottery there. You sit and hope a deer walks by. You don't get to truly hunt deer there because the deer are simply running for their lives there all the time. Hunting takes a ton of patience and hard work but it pays off in the end once you finally land the big one. It's very addicting. I recommend all new hunters either start off with small game hunting or at least do it in conjunction with big game hunting because the success rate is better with small game.

To produce the same amount of power as a 223 (amount of powder, density in the casing, size of bullet) you're going to pretty much approach 223 prices minus the primer which would defeat the purpose of producing a rimfire round. Once it reaches 223 prices, then why not just get a 223? No. This new rimfire round still seems to have a lot less powder than a 223 round. Also, with the larger casing, 223 can fit heavier bullets up to 75 grains. Most 22 WMR are in the 36 to 40 grain range.

17 HMR is fast enough. The limitations of the 17HMR wasn't the speed or the force, it was that the caliber is just too small of a bullet to tackle larger game animals. I wonder if a .22 super magnum is in the works. Having a 22 WMR with the speed and accuracy of a 17 HMR. Now, that would be a game changer.

Peta advertising over there )))))-------------------->

I love how on the side bar on Facebook, there's pictures of some hot girl in a bikini and the actual advertisement is for mortgage refinanciing or penny stocks...has nothing to do with skantily clad women at all but they work because it does catch my eye.
