    I'm confused. You are concerned about the noise from a tree umbrella in heavy rains while archery hunting mature bucks? Why would you be archery hunting in rains like that? I'd guess that pop-up blinds make at least a similar level of noise being made of the same fabric, but with more surface area. However, how do you isolate that one factor as being the sole reaaon a mature buck might get spooked in close? I think if you liked staying dry with the umbrella, then stay with it.

    Final answer: Wicked Ridge Warrior Ultra Lite. Price was too good to pass up and it meets all of NY's random nonsense regs. Also ordered a half dozen BEE's that I'll hunt with using either 100 gr Muzzy Trocars or Slick Tricks. Hoping for an immediate return on investment this weekend!

    Sounds more like a training issue, but you know what you're up against better than us. Give it a whirl. You could always move that RDS to the shotty or a pistol if it doesn't work out with the rifle. No downside here.

    Thanks guys. Last year I was simply crouched down behind that big downed log and missed a chance on a doe during xbow. It wasn't a super comfortable setup, but I like the location. There is so much downfall in this flat that I'm hoping the deer don't pay any attention to the new arrangement. We'll see.

    Alas, no strut chair in the garage. There is a dip in the ground in there so a milk crate and cushion should work. The only way I'm boned in there is if deer come right up my 6.

    I hung a cam over a scrape I hunted last year and figured why not throw together a quick blind? Base log was already on the ground in front of the main tree so it just needed to be built up. Plenty of deadfall laying around so this got knocked out in less than an hour. This particular area is a no go for a tree stand so hopefully the natural blind works out.

    Some things you can control. Others aren't up to you. By all accounts you searched as best as you could given the circumstances. For all you know, it wasn't a mortal hit and there was never going to be a recovery. Clear your guilt, learn the lessons and move on. That said, you do need to resolve your weapon issue before hunting with it again. What ammo were you using? Know your dope at the ranges you might take a shot given your chosen zero. I hunt with the factory Hornady Whitetail .308 in 150gr and all of my shots are under 100 yards. So far, my success rate with that ammo is 100% with minimal or no tracking needed.
