  1. That 8 pt you're about to shoot is going to look awesome strapped over the trunk!
  2. Not one flake yet, but very thankful to have one hanging. Group of 4 does came through on a fast trot and only one presented a shot through the trees after finally getting them to stop. Neck shot at 64 yds through a small window and drt. Couldn't ask for a better outcome. So third hunting season ever, first seeing deer, missed out on a bunch of opportunities due to my own inexperience, but now 2 for 2 with the Tikka. Still have tags left. Life is good.
  3. Let it snow, Let it snow, Let it snow!!!!
  4. Everyone will have their own perspective considering the size of the state. In my case, I'm still in the woods with tags to fill. God hates a quitter!
  5. Made a mistake wasting time trying to id a deer with my range finder instead of lining up a shot between the trees. Looked like a nice spike that I saw earlier in the season. Back at it tomorrow.
  6. Well, it won't be a 6 pt with the xbow today. I did see a small doe or fawn though. No clean shot, but I probably would have passed a fawn anyway. Wolfing down some lunch and then grabbing the rifle for the late shift!
  7. Absolutely! I will be thinking about it all day while hunting!

    Brother, I can't make a 6-pack last 3 days here!

    Beer

This delicious brew has turned into my go-to stout of late. Grab it while you can.

    Beer

In the interests of science, I'd drink it!
  11. Really surprised with all those deery views that no one harvested a deer today. Get 'em next time! I'll be out tomorrow for the first of 3 all-day sits. Calling it Biz-style: Jdubs, did it to a 6 pt with the xbow, outside the bedding area!
  12. Wow. Probably best not to post my true reaction to hearing that. Sick.
  13. Yep, if anyone asks, I only spent $76 on hunting stuff.
  14. The guy who found the carcasses, a hunter, said they were all shot. If that's the case, then the roadkill scenario seems less likely. I am assuming that he would be able to distinguish between hunted deer and roadkill, including euthanized roadkill. Poacher in the sense of taking deer illegally and without tags. A malicious landowner could make sense. He'd want the deer gone, to include their rotting corpses, from his property. I can't imagine any real hunter passing up so much quality meat; seems to be a real sadistic SOB. Hopefully the investigation and spreading the word will eventually lead to the person(s) responsible.
  15. Cold front is coming just in time. Keep those tags handy! https://youtu.be/GpWWCTVbFfM eta: How do I post a youtube video here and not just the link?
  16. It would not override mag capacity limits or hollow point restrictions (in NJ), for example.
  17. Great question. Pure speculation, but an exasperated or narcissistic homeowner with meticulous landscaping might fit the profile. No hunter would waste the meat from 20 deer. A haul like this likely involves spotlights and baiting.
  18. Expected moronic FUAC statement did not fail to disappoint. Someone should clue in the Princess that criminals aren't being given CCW's from other states and merely waiting on National Reciprocity to unleash hell on NY's streets.
  19. Resurrecting this old thread as I'm looking to make my first venison chili. Anyone else have a favorite recipe to share?
  20. Absolutely sickening! DEC is asking for anyone with information to call them. http://news10.com/2017/12/06/deer-carcasses-found-at-boat-launches/?utm_medium=social&utm_source=facebook_WTEN SARATOGA COUNTY, N.Y. (NEWS10) – The DEC is investigating the discovery of nearly 20 deer carcasses left to rot near two Saratoga County Boat launch sites. The hunter who found them wants to know who’s responsible. “I wanted people to be aware of what’s happening.” What’s happening near two Boat launches in Saratoga County is deeply disturbing. “There’s a lot of meat there, a lot of deer.” Deer shot and killed, the meat left to rot. Sportsman Josh Warner spotted the carcasses while scouting for good fishing spots at the Nolan Road Boat Launch and the Roger’s Island Pool Boat Launch. At first, it was just a few. “Came back a week later and found 12 more.” Walking the length of the road he showed us more than a dozen killed and discarded deer. Some even stuffed in garbage bags. Most were young does and one young buck. “He was just shot, killed and dumped. When I hunt, I hunt to feed my family. I don’t hunt to kill them and throw them on the side of the road.” The disgusted hunter feels it’s all the work of poachers, so he took his frustration to Facebook by posting videos. “The law should be stricter on what’s happening here.” The DEC says they are aware of the situation and are investigating. That this clearly illegal and considered improper disposal of the animals. Here in the Northern Zone, the Regular deer hunting season ended on Sunday. With a short muzzleloader season having started on Monday, the DEC says it’s legal to take young bucks, and if you have a special permit, does as well. What happened at these sites is definitely outside of the law. “I hope and pray to God that they get caught because then it will be an eye-opener for everybody else.” The Department of Environmental Conservation is asking for the public’s help. If you know anything about this case you’re asked to give them a call.
  21. Lifelines and/or a lineman's belt coupled with a good harness should be considered as essential as your hunting weapon if you're climbing into a tree. Overblown egos, carelessness and stupidity are no match for gravity and physics. And yet, every single year Darwin finds more candidates. http://www.newyorkupstate.com/outdoors/2017/11/dec_reports_3_tree_stand-related_deaths_of_upstate_ny_hunters_this_fall.html
