  1. And "if" that someone else is a family member, will all the pictures and documentation really matter? These pit bulls aren't domesticated dogs any more. Someone is going to get seriously hurt if they aren't put down.
  2. I wouldn't be running like prey, that's for sure.
  3. I'll stick with my Tikka T3X Stainless Lite in .308. This rifle is capable of taking deer, elk and bear at a distance. Carries and handles great plus no worries in wet weather. I shoot it well so this one really checks all the boxes for me. Outside of NY, I'd say a good AR-15 platform with .22LR, .223/5.56 and 6.8SPC uppers would provide a ton of versatility in one package.
  4. Looks like Cabela's is blowing this model out (the only KI xbow on their site) for only $419.88. I said I wasn't going to buy one without handling it first, but damn! http://www.cabelas.com/product/hunting/archery/crossbows-accessories/crossbows/pc/104791680/c/104693580/sc/333154080/i/103854780/killer-instinct-furious-frt-crossbow-package/2485597.uts?slotId=0
  5. Thanks Dom. I'm pretty methodical in how I go about purchases like this. Internet is useful for creating a short list, but I will definitely be handling some before plunking down any money. Good replies so far are definitely helping out. The Jackal was actually a gift for my stepson who ultimately decided not to hunt afterall.
  6. This xbow and the Horton RCX both look awesome. The Horton's 15.5" uncocked width would appear to be disqualified by NY's 17" minimum for hunting. However, the KI's width is good at 17.5" plus that Furious platform comes with a Hawke XB30 scope, definite ahort list material!
  7. I'll admit to being far more familiar with firearms. After removing the scope, I found that the factory did actually use blue loctite on the two rail screws, but the one screw attaching the rail and arrow retainer spring had backed out a bit. This caused me multiple problems on hunts. I added fresh loctite, tightened everthing down and adjusted the tension on the arrow retainer spring. Re-zeroed the scope and good to go. Last year I replaced the factory el cheapo red dot with a Nikon Bolt XR. Nice enough scope, but I want something illuminated for low light. Guess I'm spoiled by the Night Force NSX on my rifle. The Jackal seems capable of taking deer, but I want an xbow that handles better from my hang on stand. You can't find shorter limb widths, better balance points, higher speeds and quieter shooting all in an entry level package. To clarify my earlier comment about range, I want to have the capability to confidently take a kill shot at up to 40 yards, a distance that I passed up a real nice 6 point with the Jackal.
  8. My Cabelas Seclusion 3D winter camo looks so lonely sitting in the tub. We need some snow!
  9. I'm not saying that all entry-level xbows are ineffective. I truly believe the Jackal is a capable, albeit unweildy weapon within a limited range, otherwise I wouldn't be wasting hours in a tree stand hunting with it. However, I want a higher degree of reliability, handling and performance and I'm willing to invest my hard-earned money in that weapon system. Never would have posted this thread if I was 100% confident and satisfied with the Jackal. Any replies from those having a positive experience with better xbows is appreciated.
  10. Barnett Jackal. I want an effective, no bs kill range of 40 yards, minimum. And absolutely, please knock off your preaching in my thread. My relationship with Him is way more solid than my relationship with the Jackal. I need a new xbow, not faith. Go start your own thread if you feel the need to discuss the religious benefits of hunting with an xbow.
  11. Let me nip this right in the bud: I do NOT need another entry-level xbow or any preaching. My daily ritual, hunting or not, includes prayer and I am very thankful for all blessings, great and small. What I need is an xbow capable of delivering reliable kill shots when I do my part. I don't need another miss (from a loose screw) or missed opportunity (mature buck out of range).
  12. I have plenty of Realtree Xtra, but the Cabelas O2 Octane seems to blend into my hunting environment the best. Should probably take some comparison pics sometime.
  13. Hunting xbow season really opened my eyes to the harvest opportunity I've been missing by skipping archery hunting. Unfortunately, my own inexperience, coupled with an entry-level xbow, prevented me from filling a couple tags this early season. Hopefully, I will redeem myself in the late season. Based on this experience, however, it's clear that I need to invest in a better xbow. I had no problems finding the deer. Requirements would include being easy to handle in a tree stand (without a rail), reliable with accuracy and effectiveness at 40 yards (minimum). My budget is roughly $1,000. What xbows would you recommend? TenPoint Eclipse RCX and Stealth FX4 are both on my short list. An illuminated scope for low light is a must. I'm definitely a 'Buy once, cry once' guy and don't want to miss another opportunity due to an unreliable weapon system.
  14. Absolutely, Dinsdale. But Heaven forbid if you owe child support or some back taxes to NY, THEN they will drop the hammer on you! I don't think people would be blatantly poaching if the deterent wasn't a mere wrist slap.

    Beer

Please forgive me, but my stash has been reduced to all barrel-aged brews and vino.
  16. That is absurd. A five figure fine and revocation of driver license until paid should get their attention.
  17. I use Tide free & clear he (white bottle) and toss clothes in dryer with scent free sheets. When done, the clothes go right into my hunting Rubbermaid container. This has seemed to work well since I have had deer directly under my stand, but my next move will be to get some kind of ozone filter for the Rubbermaid to de-scent as much as possible.
  18. Our ghost of an AG is already on record stating that NY would sue, if this passed into law. This coming from the clown whose biggest accomplishment to date is suing Fan Duel and Draft Kings into forking over a share of their profits. Not a peep about all the political corruption and kickbacks, but he made time to get the Prince a piece of that fantasy football pie!
  19. I wouldn't have thought of a bird feeder as a bait station. If I were going to purposely hunt my backyard, then I'd be growing a garden and planting fruit trees.
  20. Went out to bring the dogs in and I kid you not there is a buck grunting inside the tree line next door. No visual and I'm already geared up for work, dang it. Just wait til Friday big fella!
  21. Plenty of deer in the woods. Work harder to make the next shot count, that's all you can control.
  22. You never want to ask a lady her weight, but if I measured their chest girth like wolc insists, then they've all been over 200# ! (Sue me, I like boobs. )
