  1. It's more than that. He praises God in one sentence for the meat harvest, then mocks Him in the next with these pathologically exaggerated weights and ages based on chest girth. Is the gift not good enough? It's sad that a hunter cannot find happiniess in their harvest as it lays before them. I'm thankful for what I took this year (my first two deer ever) and look forward to learning from those here kind enough to share their experiences so that I might become a more productive hunter.
  2. ^^^That's the trick I'd like to know.
  3. What, no Barbie? She's not good enough for your kraut balls?
  4. It's ALWAYS about the money.
  5. I fully expect to be so steekin rich after this weekend that I can buy Montana and hunt year-round.
  6. Squirrel, rabbit and fish with sides of nuts and berries. A deer kill would be like hitting lotto. The thing is you have to manage calorie output vs calorie intake if you're in a survival situation. If you're moving a great distance from Point A to Point B, then those small calorie meals are needed to sustain energy and keep your head in the game. If you're hunkered down, then you can survive on much fewer calories. Do we get the benefit of a known end date though? My strategy is going to depend on the particular set of circumstances, prioritizing (in order) shelter, water, fire and food. A firearm only helps to solve my lowest priority in the woods.
  7. Best rifle for surviving what? I have backpacked the ADK's plenty and never even packed a pistol. Then again, I wasn't on a weeks-long trek or going off the grid, so to speak. The worst "survival" situation I've had at home was an ice storm that knocked out power for 3 days. No firearm needed then either. If the scenario is surviving up to 30 days in the woods while covering a lot of ground, then I'd want a lightweight 22lr rifle and a brick of ammo. All the gear I'd ever need easily fits into a 70L pack and toting a heavy SG or rifle with ammo would really suck. Besides, food can also be acquired with fishing and trapping so why add weight? The only reason I'd change this answer would be if you dropped me into grizzly territory. If the scenario is hunkering down at home or bugging out to a secluded location, then I would want a semi-auto .308, something like a SCAR 17 SBR with a can. A rifle like that can problem solve pretty much any 2 or 4 legged situation. However, these sorts of "survival scenarios" are easily planned for ahead of time so that one wouldn't be limited to just one firearm.
  8. Regulate by arrow speed? I'd think you would open up the likelihood of your xbow being taken away for testing that the DEC isn't capable of conducting anyway. Advertised fps can vary greatly with arrows of different weights. Manufacturers routinely use one arrow weight to get to the biggest fps number for marketing purposes then list a lower fps to be expected with an arrow selected for hunting purposes.
  9. My Wicked Light on the gun was one of those quality upgrades that made a big difference. Awesome light.
  10. I learned the hard way that going cheap only ends up being the expensive way to buy quality stuff when you eventually upgrade.
  11. Sometimes it depends on the manager, but always play that retail game. I've saved $1000's over the years by pointing out faulty pricing and asking for price matches. You never know unless you ask.

Ommegang Hennepin for lunch and more Brooklyn Dark Chocolate Stouts (no pics). I've posted those plenty of times, good stuff. Just popped the top on this Founders breakfast stout. Pretty good, but it's not a CBS.

    Beer

This was my first. Kinda like champagne without all the bubbles. However, I'm visiting my cousin and we're popping all kinds of bottles.

    Beer

Too sweet for my tastes, but a quality Belgian none the less.

Tell you what, a few more of these and I might forget the month, year and even my own name!
