I knew that 2.5 was a 2.5 from the trail cam pics before it was killed. I asked the hunter for the jaw bone to see if I was right and I was. I guess Im not following along with what you are looking for.

My buddy has a Cuddeback, its been back to the factory 3 times in 2 years. The trigger speed is average at best, and the the pictures are ok when it does work. I bought a Browning, not very impressed with it really. Ill probably throw it on eBay and buy another Covert or maybe a USA Trail Cam

1 - Possibly, but theres also the more likely chance that they will hold out for a bigger buck and take a doe or two for the freezer. 2 - You cant look at double harvests for that number. There are many guys that put the first buck they see down, then wait for Mr Big, and he never comes around. 3 - Who says that choice will still be there when the new buck management strategies and laws come around? ARs maybe? So yes, it is a positive. 4 - See # 3 5 - Its in place in many of the states regarded as having the best deer hunting in the world. States that people flock to every year. Yep, its hair brained. As Ive said before, OBR doesnt address just buck management, nor does it just address doe population, and it doesnt just address hunter satisfaction, its meant to be a part of a good management strategy that benefits everyone without taking much opportunity away from anyone. Just because you have your goals for hunting, doesnt mean you should run anyone else down for theirs just because they arent the same. BTW, Im not going to engage in your petty personal attack nonsense. It doesnt surprise me that you start with it though.

You never know, that might be a good strategy, at least on a temporary scale. Id say you would then have a higher than desired buck take in surrounding areas, and poaching would rise. Hunter satisfaction is not a local issue, its statewide. Shoot, I live in an area with some of the best deer hunting in the state, some of the largest bucks as well. People around here still think we need ARs or something like that. Again, some type of change is coming, you can bet on it. Id much rather see OBR than EAB or ARs.

I have no idea, never hunted there. I have always wanted to give it a go.

NY is a big state with many pieces of state land, etc. You can always get DMPs for other areas and hunt more. Plus, you have to think about the future. Improve the herd in your area today, hunt more locally in a couple/few years. And that use it anywhere in the state doe tag should be gone as well.

I had one lined up and ended up turning it down because it wasnt what I wanted in a crossbow. -
So look at the reasons why there are few or no DMPs in that area. Its because the population is low. Should they be shooting 2 bucks in those areas?
-
No, you just danced around the answer. Again, buck age management is not biologically necessary, though it is inevitable because hunter satisfaction IS a necessity. Killing does is also a necessity, in some areas more than others. OBR removes the chance that someone will kill a small buck for meat, pass does and wait for Mr Big. Most likely, they will shoot a doe or two for meat along the way while waiting for Mr Big. Not everyone will, young bucks will still be taken, but Id be willing to bet the number drops pretty significantly over time. In areas that have a low population of deer, it helps to lessen the impact of additional bucks being taken. More does taken in areas that need it = positive. More bucks making it to maturity = more hunter satisfaction = positive. Hunters being able to choose what buck they care to shoot = positive. Less restrictive than Antler point or spread restrictions = positive. The only negative you can come up with is change is unnecessary. Sometimes I think youd rather things just stay the same because you just dont want to change. You sure like to gripe, but you rarely present any solutions to issues that satisfy anyone but yourself. You sit here and say the DEC's management sucks, but you piss and moan at every suggested change. Even the ones that have proven to work in other places. Which way do you want it? New, unfounded ideas, or proven ones? Change is inevitable.

Im the same way every year. We hang at least 3 new sets a year and then always decide we need more. I bought 4 this year, I could use more.

If Id have gotten the crossbow, absolutely not. When I get one, it will just be another option to take into the woods. -
Yep, thats a brute of a Key Deer.

We leave a note on the stand, if the person doesnt answer their phone when they are called and asked to take their stands down, and it stays there for a while. If they dont take it down, then we take the stand and put it in the barn. If they dont show up, it gets added to our collection in a new area.
-
Answer the question please.
-
You dont seem to understand. The DEC is making a change in the way they manage buck age structure. Thats why they created the new buck zone map. Something will change. What would you rather see? BTW age structure doesnt equal antler structure. If antler structure were the only goal, a combined point/spread restriction would go into place.
-
Its not a need anywhere biologically. Its not about need, its about managing age structure of bucks. Dont try to spin this off course, answer the question I asked.
-
Please explain what areas of the state where it would be a negative. BTW, intrusive is exactly the word I wanted to use, it was no mistake.

Awesome, let me know. -
I dont see how its a scatter gun or fad management technique. It would be fairly non-intrusive (unlike ARs), and less detrimental to areas with low doe population (like EAB could be), and allows hunters the freedom to choose. Also, how many states are there that even allow multiple bucks to be taken per season?
-
Its a way to try and convince hunters to hold out for a larger buck without forcing an antler restriction down their throat. You would still be free to shoot whatever buck you want.
-
It would server multiple purposes, and would only be one piece of a good herd management plan. We have a good number of big bucks already with no ARs and no one buck rule, but the simple fact is that this state is looking to manage bucks more effectively. A one buck rule would be one way to go about it, ARs is another way to go about it. I would rather see a OBR. Still lets those of you who dont care about what buck they shoot, choose, but will cause others to hold out for a larger buck rather than bag the first yearling that walks by "for meat", and then pass every other deer in the woods (including the does that need to be taken for population control) waiting on Mr Big.
-
What are you talking about? You are already limited on how many you can take.

Isnt there an old addage about keeping your mouth shut and not letting people know what kind of a fool you are? Im guessing someone, and I wont name names, never heard that one....
