Putting something on your treestand to make it inaccessible is not making a trap. If you put a trap door on it, or spikes or something else intended to harm someone, then yes. What the OP is thinking is no different than locking a door.

Im a deer hunter. When I fill my doe tags, its mostly for meat, and Ill take the doe that gives me the best shot. If I have multiple good shots available, Ill take the biggest one in the group. When Im hunting for bucks, Im selective. I dont look down on anyone for their personal harvest goals. I get frustrated when I see some of the younger bucks on the farm fall to the guys that put zero time in, but what am I really going to do about it? They have permission to hunt there too, and are happy with what they took, so I congratulate them and move on.

Theres an easier way to keep others out of your stands. Remove the bottom section of ladder sticks, or if you use screw in steps, take the bottom 4 steps with you when you leave. Your idea is an interesting concept, but its bulky, heavy and would be a pain to deal with in the dark.
