  1. 3 1/2 + is my minimum. I have a specific target buck this year. I will take a different deer that meets my minimum, but Id really like to try and hold out. Im almost glad it didnt work out with half rack last evening. If I eat my buck tags this year, so be it.
  2. Great pics. You need to fold that shooting bar back though.
  3. if its a smart phone, download the photobucket app, upload the pics to that, then copy the link to the forum like you would from a PC
  4. hahaha, I still do that too, Im just more selective about it.
  5. I used to be a clear cut kind of guy, now I trim holes through things like that. I want as much cover as I can get.
  6. Pics or it didnt happen! Congrats bud!
  7. Exactly steve. I spent ALOT of time prepping this year. Food plots, new stands, scouting, etc. Theres no way Im going to make excuses not to be out there.
  8. Older bucks moving more? Well, you can wait for the rut all you want, but they still have to move to feed, drink, etc. You just dont hunt this time of the year like you do the rut. I dont have any "best stands" I have stands that are good for certain situations. The stand I went to last night was perfect for the situation. I had a mature buck at 20 yards. He would be in my freezer right now had I not botched my opportunity, and it had nothing to do with the temps. To each their own I guess.
  9. verminator, if you dont want to sit out in the heat, thats fine. But saying that you arent going out because deer arent moving, etc is just making excuses. Conditions are just fine, deer live and thrive in the heat, just like they do in the cold. Yes, its a long season, and you dont want to pressure your stands, but guess what? It doesnt matter what time of the year it is, or what the temps are, if you hunt a stand in unfavorable winds, etc, you are going to alert deer. Like phade said, just hunt based on the correct conditions, and you will be fine. I almost led myself to fall into the too hot to hunt thing yesterday, but I looked at the wind, thought about the best stand to get in without burning ground, and got my butt in there. It was just as good, if not a better sit than I have had on many, many cold days. The biggest worry in these temps is getting the deer processed.
  10. Phade, that stand is perfect for that wind. Perfect.
  11. I saw one down at the QDMA National Convention. Seems like a good idea, but I had the same thoughts about what happens when you get a deer.
  12. Lol pawle. I want to see more success pics posted damn it!
  13. Guys, stop making excuses. They are moving just fine. Last evening, in 75 plus degrees, I saw 10 deer, including a mature buck. Deer move in this weather, they have to eat, drink, etc. If you have the right wind conditions for your sets, get your butts in there.
  14. Im so tempted to call in to work. This is the wind I need....ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
  15. He would have been my biggest in antler size and number of points. I have some 2 1/2 year olds under my belt. It was tough to pass on him, but he doesnt meet my goals for the year.
  16. I was hoping to never run across that video again....
  17. So the guy that hijacks and bushwhacks more threads on the site than anyone else is going to talk about keeping things orderly? The one that just called someone out for something that went on a year ago in the sam thread he talks about orderly? Please.
  18. So i ended up seeing 6 does and 2 fawns, then had a mature buck we call half rack come out at 20 yards. I did not have a chance to stand up, so i tried drawing on him while sitting and my sleeve swooshed against my pants, causing the buck to spook. Its too bad too, we have been after him for a couple of years. He has pedicle damage on his right side, so he only grows anything on the left. He has 5 points this year, and his body is ungodly big. His neck already blends down and leaves no visible brisket. After he left, I had the 2 1/2 year old 9 point come out and stand in my shooting lane for a couple of minutes. I let him go. Ended up being a good sit.
  19. Btw culver, he has a bed rug in it, not a liner. Thats why its a sissy truck.
  20. Had 2 does and 2 fawns in the plot. Closest was at 50ish yards. I hope they come back.
  21. Finally in the stand! Great wind for this stand, just on the north edge of a food plot, facing west. Thicket to my North. Deer in the plot! Gotta go!
  22. Did you go back to the spot where you shot the deer? Look for hair?
  23. Find the spot where you initially shot him and look for hair. It will be there, and the color can tell alot about how he was hit. If you found the rear of the arrow, chances are almost 100% the front is in him. Too warm out to waste time, get on it.
  24. My thoughts exactly. I still say shenanigans.
  25. You should have practiced with it before the season started. I read a couple of posts on here where people were giving others crap about wanting to practice with their climbers, and I had to shake my head. To this day, I still get my climber out at least once before the season starts so I can make sure everything is good, and climb up and down a tree or two just to make sure Im still good with it. Yes, I do find it to be a little bulky and cumbersome, but there are times when its needed. I would prefer to hunt pre-set stands, but the mobility of the climber is great. I can get into places where I dont normally go. As has been said, scout your trees ahead of time, so you arent fumbling around in the dark. Youll get it down once you gain more experience with it.
