  1. I am 100% bummed about Deer season being over. :-[ I got a quick taste of late season and fell in love this past weekend, wish it was longer. Every year I go through this, thats why I started with the predator hunting, but its just not the same. Hopefully Ill start feeling better when I start getting out after the dogs. I told my fiance last night that theres only 9 months left till bow season starts. She looked at me like Im nuts.
  2. Thanks! Im glad to have something in the freezer. Sorry to hear you didnt connect on anything. Its gonna be time for some coyote hunting soon though.
  3. Thanks guys! Unfortunately, no repeats this year lol. Its ok, at least I didnt get skunked this year.
  4. I hunted all weekend, saw more deer than through all of regular gun season combined. Im a new believer in late season!
  5. In the past 2 weeks I have seen more deer than I saw through the rest of gun season combined. In my area there is no shortage of deer. As for my opinion on the length of gun season, most of you guys already know how I feel about it, its just too long. I think it should be shortened to 2 consecutive weeks of regular firearms, then a week or two going back to bow, then bring a 2 week ML season on at the end, no scopes, iron sights only. Push bow season to extend from Oct 1 till hte end of ML, which would be around Christmas, put crossbows in place all season long and make it 1 buck total per year. Leave the DMPs the way they are and let your buck tag be an either sex. In total you would get your either sex tag, a doe tag for bow/ml and then your DMPs if you apply.
  6. Thanks guys. Im back out again this morning trying for a repeat!
  7. After a tough season with some great sightings and a few missed opportunities, I borrowed a friend's muzzle loader to give it another try on the last weekend of the season. I was invited by a friend to hunt his land with him and his girlfriend's 13 year old son. I knew that the land was full of deer as I had been turkey hunting with him before, and he is always bagging deer. I got there this morning at 5:45, and had a deer run across the road and into his yard before I pulled in. We got our gear together and headed out to our spots. He dropped me off at a place that overlooks a deep ravine that is about 200 yards across. He told me which way they would probably be coming from and explained where the 13 year old and he would be. The kid would be sitting across the ravine from me to get a good look if anything came through. I planted myself by a tree and sat until he texted at 8:30 saying he was gonna head my way slowly and to keep an eye out. Just before he texted I had a deer come in behind me and blow at me. I didnt see what it was. About 20 minutes after he had texted me, some movement caught my eye. It was 3 doe in the bottom of the ravine on the opposite side. I figured the kid must be excited because these deer were just milling around about 40 yards from him. Within 5 minutes, 4 more doe filed in behind them, and they all looked over their backs. My buddy was right behind them, and they started to run, but stopped for a second to look again and he took a shot at one of them. That caused them to take off right toward me, but most of them were hauling and I knew I only had 1 shot, so I waited to see what would happen. One doe ran right toward me and headed up the ravine wall about 40 yards to my right. She stopped 3/4s of the way up and I took my shot. She started staggering down the hill as I reloaded the gun. She got most of the way down the hill and laid down, just then I had the gun reloaded and I finished her off. She slid down and came to rest on the ice of the creek at the bottom. I headed down to help my buddy look for blood from the deer he shot at, but there was nothing, so we dragged my doe up onto the bank and I field dressed it, explaining to the kid how to do it. We both reloaded and headed up to the house. We came out of the ravine and something caught my eye in the field we had just walked into. It was a group of 3 does and a big 130+" 8 point. We watched them from across the field and something spooked them, sending them straight at us. We all hit the ground and my buddy and I took aim. He shot first and hit just under the buck, sending snow flying. The buck ran closer and stopped and I took my shot at 80ish yards, and the round went right under him. He took off and disappeared into the brush. What a morning! I will definately be getting a muzzleloader of my own for next year!
  8. This morning I headed out to my buddy's to give it a whirl with the ML. Saw 7 come through and bagged a nice doe. Reloaded for the walk back to the house for the side by side and we saw a giant 8 point, which we both promptly missed lol. Had a total of 12 deer in front of me this morning. Im stoked to have finally put one down and some meat in the freezer! The whole story will be in the success section.
  9. Riiiiiiiiiight. Nod Nod Wink Wink. DEC Tipp line is open 24/7
  10. Ive been wanting to do this for some time. I plan on putting together a few camera arms, as I can build nice, lightweight ones cheaper than the heavy steel ones cost. I am also planning on picking up an HD digital camcorder soon. We are having a new baby in April, and its just the excuse I need to buy the camera lol. Hopefully Ill be videoing hunts next season.
  11. Good luck finding a site where nobody disagrees, ever lol. While I dont agree with erussell on this one, questioning things is not a bad thing and is part of life.
  12. I saw the thread for the fundraiser, glad to see someone doing something good for the kid.
  13. Im envious! Thats a great price, does the person have any more of them?
  14. That's the way ours looks ..... only even more-so. So does it really matter whether it's real or fake? you can't see it! Like I said before, the tree could be welded water pipes with chicken wire over it and nobody would even know the difference ..... lol ;D LMAO! I could build you one of those if you want!
  15. Its a sad event, but not what I would call an accident. Too many people acting irresponsibly at once. Shooting at movement, having a 10 year old driving deer, crawling through thickets, etc etc. I wish the kid all the best, and hopefully he learns a big lesson from all of this. Hopefully all of the people involved learn a lesson, and the shooter needs some time to sit and think about it. Thanks for the details Ron.
  16. A joke forum would be good, Eddie keeps mixing them in everywhere lol
